- In this video I flintknap a Dalton point and Dalton adze blade. I also give an introductory overview of Dalton culture and the lifestyle of these people.

Very informative production Silas. I didn't even realize it was you until the end and then it made sense. I remember a quartz crystal you worked with that same reserved sensitivity to the stone and its inherent qualities. Superb techique.

The hand/ eye coordination required to take off the right size flake without breaking the point in half is considerable. Did this for years and only got "decent" at it.

bones&stones 65 Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. No I don’t, I prefer ago when I can. My wrist was hurting when filming this, which is why I did most of the flaking with my copper ishi stick. I end up doing copper pressure flaking about half the time, antler the other half
Flint naping flint is believable but not chert so how did they do it with chert
Chert and flint are more or less the same thing. All of the material called “flint” in the US is actually chert, including the material I knap in this video.
You need some rhyolite.

Lol what hobby? The collections hobby? I don’t give a care if the antiquities and relics market dies. I don’t have a problem with people surface collection on private property. But once an artifact gets sold it just loses provenience and it’s ability to inform us about past peoples.
