@@Sith-LordTobi This is a famous rendition of the whole "hero vs villain" thing. *The difference between a hero and a villain is that the hero will sacrifice you to save the world while the villain will sacrifice the world to save you* And for me, that comes with the paradox. Alsoo she makes EXPLOSIVES A thing that is very powwrful but can also literaly hurt you if you hold onto it for long, whereas other types of weapons are more aim related and not time sensitive. So her tool of choice is also incorporated into her theme. Shes volatile,a danger to both herself and to others. (We need Fiddlestixks in Season 2)
I’ve rewatched the last episode are arcane so many times and watched soooo many videos on UA-cam about Arcane. … After all that I don’t think Jinx shot Silco to save Vi. I think she heard the safety of the gun go off and her first instinct was to shoot at the person holding the gun. Makes me wonder if Vi was the one with the gun would Jinx have shot her?? Jinx is such a complex character. I love it, and I love Sage Rain!
Exactly. And, yes, Jinx would have shot Vi (she already did when she hallucinated that one of the skateboarding thieves was Vi and flat out shot her when a threat was perceived). Powder turned into Jinx the moment she realized Silco couldn't come back, exactly like what Powder did with the bomb at the beginning. Jinx isn't a coping mechanism. Jinx is the shell that's left over when Powder is destroyed. You can watch it happen as she cries over Silco, then her face flattens and the emotions are gone (it's called a "flat aspect" and we use it in the medical field). The chaotic rampages of Jinx are all she has now and she no longer fights it. Incredibly sad watching someone's psyche be so utterly demolished.
Powder is my favorite tragic character (next to david from cyberpunk edgerunner) it is sad to think she is to far gone to be saved and that this story likely wont have a happy ending
Jinx and Silco's dynamic is so realistic everything about it. This is likely me forcing my experiences into a mold but their relationship reminds me so much of me and my dad's. Switch out a few names and that's it. Idk I think i was trying to praise you on how well you described it. The whole video was incredible though
I was worried at first when you said Jinx killed Vander, but later you said Silco killed him. Thus you show that while Jinx carries the guilt, Silco carries the responsibility. Glad you pointed out Silco's manipulation (despite his love) and Vi's guilt and thus inability to say Jinx's new name. To her it will always be a reminder of the one time she failed as a sister, as the trauma from Silco's actions in ep 3 was too much to process. I do wish you would have pointed out how Silco knowingly lied to Jinx, as he keeps hammering to Jinx that 'Vi left her', but when he is with Vi he smugly mocks her for 'driving her sister away'. The pleasure he takes in that is just revolting to me.
My view on this end scene is that Jinx is accepting what she is. For so long she'd been defined by other people, being what they wanted so that he could gain validation, but in the end she failed time and time again. She killed her old family, she killed her new adopted father, she destroys whatever she touches. Jinx kills Powder, because if she'd going to be a monster, if can't be anything other than Jinx... then she should be proud of it. She can't chose who she is, but she can accept who she is. That's the reason why, even though she just lost the only person who ever truly accepted her as she was, she was calm and decisive. Maybe it was out of resignation, but her mind was clear now. The voices and visions were gone because she wasn't conflicted anymore. It was out of despair and hatred, but through that Jinx was truly born. So, she decided to aim her hatred where she thought it was deserved. Maybe she couldn't stop herself from destroying, but she would choose where that ruin was aimed. At piltover, the people who were the basis for everything that went wrong in her life.
I think framing a lot of what Silco did as manipulation, isn't dangerous, but that it misses the horrors of what actually happened and I'm gonna explain that more below. I do however wanna put a TRIGGER WARNING because I'll be talking about, mentioning, and comparing it to real life physical abuse and cycles of abuse. and while this'll be specifically related to physical abuse, it is analogous to other types of abuse such as sexual assault (SA), mental/emotional abuse, and all other types of abuse and manipulation. so even if I'm not going super in-depth with this topic, I still wanna apply a TW for those who are sensitive to the topic take a parent who hits their kids, not a beating but a spanking, that's normalized in our society, it's not seen as bad or as abuse in a lot of circles, but according to research and data, any type of physical confrontation with a child can be extremely damaging to their mental, emotional, and even physical wellbeing. so why do we still tolerate it at all, I think the reason is because it's normalized to the individual carrying out the action, their parents did it to them, and their grandparents probably did it to their parents, and what they did was probably a lot worse and more severe, probably closer to child abuse today than a spanking by a lot. but when given this info, people still tend to not change their behavior, and I don't think it's because they're abusive or they wanna continue doing abuse despite the evidence but because facing the fact that what they're doing to their child is damaging them doesn't just mean addressing their own actions and teachings, but the actions and teachings of their parents, and their grandparents, and so much more of their family and friends. it's restructuring how they view their family and the world they live in. and I think that's a much more common form of abuse, where the abuser doesn't realize that they are hurting that person or they were taught to believe the benefits of it outweigh the negatives. we think of manipulation as deliberate and targeted but not as a cognitive bias we haven't questioned and therefore follow, and yet the end result is the same, using fear and pain to get the desired results you want with a disregard for the health of the individual in question. and this isn't just limited to "physical discipline" but it's true in victim blaming in cases of SA, in gang violence, in mental and emotional abuse and so much more. I don't think that it can't be called manipulation or that it's wrong to do so, but that we need to expand our definition and understanding of it to address it more beneficially. I think that's the true horror of what Silco did, the horror is how common it is in our world and how little we address within society and within ourselves
Been waiting a long time for a video from you on Jinx and overall Id say you did her real justice. When I first watched Arcane the whole Powder/Jinx dynamic reminded me heavily of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Like Anakin, Powder created Jinx as a way to deal with her grief, guilt, and trauma and like Anakin, tries to view Jinx and Powder as two seperate enities, even though there are several instances where she shifts between her two selves. Only thing I somewhat disagree with is Powder/Jinx's choice at the end of the season. While I do agree that Powder and Jinx will always coexist and are one in the same I dont think she came to the same conclusion, or at least accepted that conclusion, and chose a third option. Seems to me like she decided to fully embrace Jinx and cast off Powder. That doesnt mean I think Powder is dead rather locked away somewhere far out of reach to most. I could be proven completely wrong if and when season 2 arrives but my prediction will be that Jinx will do everything to "kill" or bury all traces of Powder only to be constantly reminded of who she use to be at nearly every turn. To me while season 1 was about the birth of Jinx and "death" of Powder season 2 will be about a "revival" of Powder as it were. Aside from that pretty good video. Its always nice to find new vidoes about Arcane and Jinx in particular but hearing one with your viewpoints is refreshing to say the least.
@@MaxxPharrellOther than this one Id say check out Five by Five Takes' Vi and Jinx: Arcane's Perfect Narrative Heart. It's mostly about Jinx but includes some good analysis on Vi and Silco. Its a bit on the long side but very insightful nontheless.
Jinx is a very interesting character but I think that a part of her that is not often analyzed is her selfishness , she never takes responsability for her own actions , she always wants others to give her everything without giving anything in return , she wants to do what she wants and in the same time expect the people around her to always agree with her . In my opinion this is the real reason she became so fond with Silco : because he is a person who tell her that everything she does is fine , that is never her fault and that is always other people 's fault and that she is perfect ,but she is not and deep down she knows it , but she is too weak to face it . Interestingly this is probably the most important thing that separates the two sisters: Vi takes the blame for practically everything and never tries to justify herself, while jinx does nothing but avoid guilt and always try to make excuses or blame someone else .
Sage I absolutely love your content and have been following you for a long time and I cannot express how happy I am to see you discuss one of my favorite characters and shows of all time ❤
I don't think any of Silco's molding is intentional. He's incredibly dishonest with her because he's first and foremost dishonest with himself. I think he genuinely sees her as a little girl version of himself, and connects their experiences so he can project all his grievances onto hers, so he can find his own healing by giving her what he wanted. He does damage her, selfishly I might add, but I don't think there was a cunning mind behind it, only a shattered heart and a clouded sight. They were equally desperate to be one another's mirror - Silco needed Jinx to become the perfect embodiment of Zaun in a way he couldn't, and Jinx needed Silco to be her end goal so that she can finally be safe and belong. Silco understands Jinx in a way Violet never will, while Violet sees Powder for who she is in a way Silco never could. Vi and Silco have been pit against each other since that evening that created Jinx - the evening Vi went to rescue Vandar. Vi is honest but removed, which is shown in her desperate pleas conjuring these horrific hallucinations, while Silco is dishonest but cut from the same cloth.
I watch every single one of your videos, other people who make this content doesn't feel the same. I still like other content creators but this my favorite! ❤
Man I am feeling so bad for Jinx, I have watched arcane videos last whole day long and just thinking of the fact that Jinx just wanted to be loved and appreciated the way she wanted to but kind of got both of those things but the way she got them didn't heal her up but made her more and more broken to the point that she started to question her own judgement and it just got worse and worse for her, its just so sad and I have been brought to the brink of crying by just watching this and cannot evenly comprehend what she herself is going through, I just want to see her be happy and to find someone that truly understands her and what she needs and somehow just accept what she did and stop feeling guilty as all of it was just an accident that occurred when she was just a child I just want her to be happy
You always know what to say about a perfect imperfect character. Your heart, wisdom, and empathy is so once in a lifetime and something everyone should cherish. Do you think you could do a morality analysis of my favorite Jujutsu Kaisen character, Megumi Fushiguro? He's such a relatable character, trying to balance his outlook on bad/good people and he carries such an emotional burden of being a Jujutsu sorcerer trying to reawaken his sister. I also love his bromance with Yuji. Even though he acts annoyed by Yuji's knucklehead antics, Fushiguro is still willing to do anything for his only friend.
Dangit, Sage, DO YOU READ MY MIND!? I just got interested again in Arcane at random and became near obsessed with Jinx and then you drop this video! Still, made my day, the more I learn about this crazy gal, the better. (and the more I urge for s2) (and to give that traumatized thing a hug, she needs it)
Thank you for this video. I am still trying to figure out Jinx 2 years after the show and this video was by far the most helpful. The point that Jinx still loves Vi but is independent from her is a really good point. With this video I feel like I can almost understand Jinx fully.
When watching Arcane(having never played League of Legends) I always thought that Jinx would probably get along very well with Rampage from Beast Wars.
It’s kinda sad how ironic her name is and how it has set up her life up with tragedy. Her fractured damaged mind trying to cope with everything. Constantly trying to get her sisters appreciation it’s no wonder she flew off the rails.
I think vi could’ve made it so she didn’t have to kill Caitlyn but also got jinx to flee with her by changing the image jinx had of her. Vi could’ve made Caitlyn out to be a nobody like they were up in her world. Someone who was just trying to be useful and work their way up, not a person worth killing. Telling her she would embrace “jinx” so long as she worked on not being a killer like the machine silko was trying to create
Hm, once again, you covered this very well, i wonder what will be next for Jinx, what do you think? Hm, also, would it be possible for you to do a Video about Annie at some point?
After Jinx accsedently killed Silco, the emotion she feels, i think is a good example of weltschmerz. (goofy name but its an achual emotion, look it up.)
I really do not like how Jinx plays into the trope of "people with mental illnesses are violent". I mean, they handle it more responsibly than other media, but they still do the trope.
I don't think she fits this trope entirely though, only superficially maybe. I think it's more implied that she was shaped to be violent by her surroudings out of fear of being seen as useless and that leading to her getting abandoned by her family. Since all the other characters act violently in some way or another in the show, you get the feeling this is just how society works in their universe and it's not something exclusive of Jinx
Yes we're waiting on season 2. They held off on immediately starting production partly from not expecting the massive support the show received. It's honestly my favorite show rewatched it multiple times.
Hi sage's rain I love your character analysis and all your videos and I especially loved the video that you made about Naruto's female characters and how the writer failed them and as a big Naruto and anime fan in general I have mixed feelings with the female characters and their representation in anime because most of the female characters in anime are poorly written, fan service, simping and motivation around boys, overpower them and being a love interest and there are just few female characters who are well written. So I have a request, can you please make a video about the female characters in animes and also the representation of female characters in different type of animes that you have seen and which are popular like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu kaisen, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Full Metal Alchemist and more. Also can you talk about what makes a female character or a character itself strong because most of the time when anyone talks about a female character being strong alot of them think about physically strong but sometimes I feel like being physically strong is good but when a character is not strong by their personality it's just make them boring and somewhat unrelatable, it doesn't make them compelling characters and in the end they come into the category of a Mary Sue characters and just only exist in the story to be strong by physically not by personality and in action animes they just exist in this particular series without having any strong motive to even be in the series or even fight and often it makes them in my opinion boring and unlikeable that there is nothing to tell about them in the story. If you like my idea can you please make a video about this topic and also can you mention those female characters who are well written that deserve a lot attention and also can you tell what is your favourite female characters in anime.

She has no personal deep relationships by the end of season one because she changed and everyone else did too.
Think of it as the thought 'you betrayed me first, so deal with the consequences. I don't have the liberty to care if I want to live.'
@@Sith-LordTobi This is a famous rendition of the whole "hero vs villain" thing.
*The difference between a hero and a villain is that the hero will sacrifice you to save the world while the villain will sacrifice the world to save you*
And for me, that comes with the paradox. Is it so wrong to want to protect the one you love? Are you a villain for trying to save those you care about?
Alsoo she makes EXPLOSIVES
A thing that is very powwrful but can also literaly hurt you if you hold onto it for long, whereas other types of weapons are more aim related and not time sensitive.
Each character in the show with their complexity (hidden or shown) just boosted every other character's complexity which is why I love this show
Jinx and Silco's dynamic is so realistic everything about it. This is likely me forcing my experiences into a mold but their relationship reminds me so much of me and my dad's. Switch out a few names and that's it. Idk I think i was trying to praise you on how well you described it. The whole video was incredible though
Man jinx touched my heart. Can't wait to hear Sage's opinion on the character. 😯
I like how the show portrayed powder turning into jinx over the course of the show
All she needed was acceptance and love
Nah she needed therapy and meds too.
@@junrobin9335this made me laugh LMAO 😂
@@Lauren_Lumsden It's true though. xD
I literally just saw this show on a whim yesterday. Sages Rain coming in clutch, thanks for the amazing content like always !
"You didn't just break me, you ruined me..!"
Still fucks me up, man. Such an incredible show.
Haven't watched Arcane but now I have reason to. Going to go watch this video to completion, watch Arcane and be right back to watch it again
Jinx is my favorite character of Arcane.
She was fantastic.
I think framing a lot of what Silco did as manipulation, isn't dangerous, but that it misses the horrors of what actually happened and I'm gonna explain that more below. I do however wanna put a TRIGGER WARNING because I'll be talking about, mentioning, and comparing it to real life physical abuse and cycles of abuse. and while this'll be specifically related to physical abuse, it is analogous to other types of abuse such as sexual assault (SA), mental/emotional abuse, and all other types of abuse and manipulation. so even if I'm not going super in-depth with this topic, I still wanna apply a TW for those who are sensitive to the topic
take a parent who hits their kids, not a beating but a spanking, that's normalized in our society, it's not seen as bad or as abuse in a lot of circles, but according to research and data, any type of physical confrontation with a child can be extremely damaging to their mental, emotional, and even physical wellbeing. so why do we still tolerate it at all, I think the reason is because it's normalized to the individual carrying out the action, their parents did it to them, and their grandparents probably did it to their parents, and what they did was probably a lot worse and more severe, probably closer to child abuse today than a spanking by a lot. but when given this info, people still tend to not change their behavior, and I don't think it's because they're abusive or they wanna continue doing abuse despite the evidence but because facing the fact that what they're doing to their child is damaging them doesn't just mean addressing their own actions and teachings, but the actions and teachings of their parents, and their grandparents, and so much more of their family and friends. it's restructuring how they view their family and the world they live in. and I think that's a much more common form of abuse, where the abuser doesn't realize that they are hurting that person or they were taught to believe the benefits of it outweigh the negatives. we think of manipulation as deliberate and targeted but not as a cognitive bias we haven't questioned and therefore follow, and yet the end result is the same, using fear and pain to get the desired results you want with a disregard for the health of the individual in question. and this isn't just limited to "physical discipline" but it's true in victim blaming in cases of SA, in gang violence, in mental and emotional abuse and so much more. I don't think that it can't be called manipulation or that it's wrong to do so, but that we need to expand our definition and understanding of it to address it more beneficially. I think that's the true horror of what Silco did, the horror is how common it is in our world and how little we address within society and within ourselves
I think powder is a awesome character
Dude same I absolutely love analysis videos on Arcane, which do you recommend?
@@MaxxPharrellOther than this one Id say check out Five by Five Takes' Vi and Jinx: Arcane's Perfect Narrative Heart. It's mostly about Jinx but includes some good analysis on Vi and Silco. Its a bit on the long side but very insightful nontheless.
Funnily enough Anakin/Vader and Powder/Jinx are both canonically established as suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder.
@@markrogers4050 dude I absolutely love the long analysis videos thank you for this
Jinx is a very interesting character but I think that a part of her that is not often analyzed is her selfishness , she never takes responsability for her own actions , she always wants others to give her everything without giving anything in return , she wants to do what she wants and in the same time expect the people around her to always agree with her . In my opinion this is the real reason she became so fond with Silco : because he is a person who tell her that everything she does is fine , that is never her fault and that is always other people 's fault and that she is perfect ,but she is not and deep down she knows it , but she is too weak to face it .
Interestingly this is probably the most important thing that separates the two sisters: Vi takes the blame for practically everything and never tries to justify herself, while jinx does nothing but avoid guilt and always try to make excuses or blame someone else .
can't wait for you to cover season 2!!!!
Sage I absolutely love your content and have been following you for a long time and I cannot express how happy I am to see you discuss one of my favorite characters and shows of all time ❤
this is such a great video! deserves way more attention
just came to say this simple intro gave me chills love it
been waiting for the Arcane Analysis
Man I am feeling so bad for Jinx, I have watched arcane videos last whole day long and just thinking of the fact that Jinx just wanted to be loved and appreciated the way she wanted to but kind of got both of those things but the way she got them didn't heal her up but made her more and more broken to the point that she started to question her own judgement and it just got worse and worse for her, its just so sad and I have been brought to the brink of crying by just watching this and cannot evenly comprehend what she herself is going through, I just want to see her be happy and to find someone that truly understands her and what she needs and somehow just accept what she did and stop feeling guilty as all of it was just an accident that occurred when she was just a child
I just want her to be happy
Only ever heard of Jinx, don't know anything about the lore but, here's to the new her🍻
You always know what to say about a perfect imperfect character.
I love the eye detail that when she is looking at VI, she gets soft and rounded-eye but when se becames more loose, she has a sharpen eye
17 mins of sage's rain is just what I need
Dangit, Sage, DO YOU READ MY MIND!? I just got interested again in Arcane at random and became near obsessed with Jinx and then you drop this video! Still, made my day, the more I learn about this crazy gal, the better. (and the more I urge for s2)
(and to give that traumatized thing a hug, she needs it)
I finally just watched this show yesterday (finished yesterday) so this is very timely! Great work as always!
Damn, this one was a long time coming. Can't wait for s2
Thank you for this video. I am still trying to figure out Jinx 2 years after the show and this video was by far the most helpful. The point that Jinx still loves Vi but is independent from her is a really good point. With this video I feel like I can almost understand Jinx fully.
This video is incredibly well thought out.
When watching Arcane(having never played League of Legends) I always thought that Jinx would probably get along very well with Rampage from Beast Wars.
This was beyond amazing. Please do Vi next!
Thank you for understanding 💕
Arcane is tragic. I love it. Mr. Sage, can you make a cyberpunk edgerunners video? It's a great show and I think you'll get a few vids out of it
Omg, I remember your amazing voice, dude, and the relaxing rain, it's been a while. And the video's about my favorite character? So excited.
It's called Borderline Personality Disorder.
It's a type of dissociation typically caused by deep trauma during childhood.
jinx is my comfort character. i too am i paranoid girl with identity crisis and an anxious attachment style. i can't wait for season 2
Love Jinx never thought she was a real villain like everyone would say she is but also not quite a hero she's just jinx u know
I'm dying to see her in Season 2
I would love a video like this on Kabuto Yakushi
It’s kinda sad how ironic her name is and how it has set up her life up with tragedy. Her fractured damaged mind trying to cope with everything. Constantly trying to get her sisters appreciation it’s no wonder she flew off the rails.
That was the best one yet! You did a good job! 10/10 Who is your favorite character?
Watching this video just makes me wanna go watch re watch it.
watching this vidoe makes alot of silco behavior very similar to what parental alienation and all the side effects that come with that
I just want to give Jinx a hug 😢
Heh, her real name is Powder? That's pretty on the nose for an explosive specialist :p
She’s SUCH an interesting character to watch
Please do a video about John Wick.
This was so heartbreaking
Jinx. Tragedy. Regret. She's a good character because the show makes her good. The game doesn't do enough to characterize the "heros"
Please do a video on Tommy Shelby from the show peaky blinders
man i have the likeing to chacter like this. chacter who want to prove themsevles at their core. i wrote this more than once.
Her story is so tragic 😢.
Man i just love listening to your voice and philosophy Now i want to hear your opinion on a recent popular quote from Vinland saga "I Have No Enemies"
Your voice gives me chills, man :)
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Is this series still going? Never watched it, but what I heard it's pretty good
Yes we're waiting on season 2. They held off on immediately starting production partly from not expecting the massive support the show received. It's honestly my favorite show rewatched it multiple times.
You should do a video on David from cyber punk edge runners
goosebumps
Any confirmation for when we are getting season 2?
Hey i love your videos i know you did some Xman videos in the past but i was wondering if youd ever do one about cyclops or nightcrawler they are my facrite charcters i'd love to see it
@1:09 When did Claggor constantly complain about powders usefulness?

I would love to have a Sinbad from magi analysis. Please, would love to hear your opinions @sagerain

Man when is season 2 gonna come out!?

how do you come up with your character analysis videos
will vi have a moment to choose jinx or Caitlyn
Hey man where did you get this level of behaviour reading skills ... I ve read people for over 2 3 years and i m still not even close to your first appearance on yt
