The singer is Ray Eberle one of the best in the era of great bands, as well as The Modernaires. I never tire of listening to them, they are simply wonderful, I have listened to them for 75 years (81) and I hope to hear them in the afterlife. I am a peruvian.
The modernaires were the greatest singing group of all time.I was always crazy about the Four Freshmen and was surprised to find out that their favorite group was the Modernaires and also their greatest influence .
I believe this is the Tex Beneke Orchestra - Tex is leading and carrying the saxophone - he took up the mantle of leading Glenn Miller's band for the most part following Miller's death. Yes, the Modernaires are there with Paula Kelly, who was married to Modernaire Hal Dickenson. And also there is Ray Eberle singing some of his best known tunes from his Glenn Miller days 40 years before. I love it.
Seriously GREAT vocalists! There has never been another group with the sound of the Modernaires whose perfect harmonizing entertained millions during the best music time this country has seen... The Big Band Era. Yeah, yeah, MY opinion...
All star band including Doc severinson, Billy May and Nick Travis in the trumpet section and Sonny Russo on 1st trombone with many other seasoned big band sidemen 1957 Bell telephone hour
This was the group that started it all. The Four Freshmen[ whom I adore] said that this was the group they emulated and many many groups followed the Freshmen.
Glenn Miller was a perfectionist; you can tell that in the live recorded and studio cuts from 1939 to his disappearance. He had no patience for failure or appearance of failure. Ray Eberle was caught in traffic and was late to a rehearsal sometime around 1942 I believe, and Miller fired him on the spot. Skip Nelson took over, and did a fine job, but nobody could match the richness of Ray's vocals.

btw, for everyone thinking the singer is 'Tex Beneke', its, of course, Ray Eberle.
Btw?
Btw=By The Way
Well, he'd be doing awfully well for someone born in 1914!

This is from The Bell Telephone Hour, aired Feb. 16, 1962 on NBC.

Wonderful...would've been nice to know when this was recorded. 👍
Lo mejor en mi vida
The original Modernaires were with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the Pied Pipers were with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.
@swinginkatz They were both great and thanks for the video.

great stuff
Something wrong with audio, two things are playing at once at 2:08.
The vocalist is Ray Eberle. Strange that you don't mention him and also that you left out the last note....
Yes , I know all that, and never said any thing different.
This dates from 1962
Ray sounds great here! Sounds like Tex didn't make him strain up to the higher octaves like Glenn did.
What year is this please
@Playedback You are correct. His Brother Bob was with Jimmy Dorsey singing a lot with Helen O'Connell
connel
What I like about this is that everyone is still fairly young.
Hey - two soundtracks at the 1:46 mark. What happened??
what show is this?
Из первого состава Modernaires остался только его руководитель Хэл Дикинсон
Could that be Ray Eberle singing "At last"? He was with the original Glenn Miller Orchestra in the early 1940s with Marion Hutton & The Modernaires
It is Ray Eberle.
You don't get to see Tex Beneke - even that last tenorsax note was stolen from him.....
He's not Tex is Ray Eberle
Поёт Рэй Эберле (1919-1979)
Es Tex Beneke...?
No es Tex Beneke.
Ray Eberle
