  • OMG My poor Dove was just Snatched.
This is a Short video of the time the Snatching happened. You can see a little bit of light action just before she is Yanked from the next. There was no sound there was nothing that hit the Window she was leaning up on. This is so Sad because she has been active laying on the eggs with her man in the day time and at the hour it is right now and how cold it is right now the eggs won't last much longer then 30 min without someone laying on them. I am so heart broken because last year the female made 4 baby dove at 2 eggs each clutch before she was caught by a cat. This time the Male Dove found new mate and gave her the nesting site. She has already raised one clutch and they fledged about 12 days ago. She has been active on these 2 eggs for last 9 days or so now. Very sad day.

Wow! Daddy found a surrogate, the animal kingdom is truly amazing. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say those eggs are still viable or the surrogate probably wouldn't be sitting on them. They roll the eggs so I would think she would know if the chicks are still alive or not, but that just might be wishful thinking. Not quite the same, but my friend raises chickens and her incubator went out in the middle of the night here in Scotland (it's cold). Five of the six eggs still hatched after going hours without heat. So we'll keep our fingers crossed for your beautiful doves.

Awww.... this is heartbreaking. 😢 I know this is the cycle of life and all that jazz, but I have a pair of collared doves in my back garden and they just had two babies who fledged this week. Did the Dad ever come back to the nest?

Yes he returned however long he stays I think it will be for nothing because the eggs didn't have momma sitting to long. You can see he is sitting and he is calling for her and has been since his return. It was just days maybe 5 before the eggs would have hatched

Tonight is something I will admit only causes me to be more Amazed by Wildlife and Nature. I don't know how he has done it but there is another Female on the nest tonight. I know it isn't the normal mom because we seen what happened in the video above, More over I looked back at the footage and the color of the female tonight isn't the same as the mom. My guess is this Surrogate is a female that had just fledged earlier this month before the normal mom started a second clutch. Did the Eggs make it? From all that I have read the answer would be no. The eggs was without one of the 2 parents for over 3 hours. It is said 30 min max. I really want a Miracle if only just 1 of the 2 it will be fully amazing.

Thought i left a reply, guess not. He did return like the good daddy that he is at 5:25am. He has been calling for her most of the day. 3hours without heat is to long. They were about 5 or so days before they would have hatched. I hope they do still make it. Not sure he will be able to finish off the clutch with out momma. Maybe one from his last fledgling is female and willing to help if the eggs made it. I wish for the eggs to make it. However with knowledge of 30 minutes about how long nest is safe with one sitting is sad info

So some good news for people that have watched the video, Amazing to me that yesterday AM around 7amish. The first egg hatched and for the best news of all today at some point not 100% sure what hour my guess is about same 7ish, the Second egg has hatched. I wasn't sure because I could see some of the shell under her while she was laying on the nest. I watched at the point the Male took over the nest today at 10ish am and at that point the female Surrogate mom picked up part of the shell and daddy picked up the second part removing it from the nest before returning 30 seconds later to start his sitting and feeding the Squabs today. I feel blessed that they both made it.
