    I enjoyed the conversation and Adrian did a great job sharing his direct experience with RM customers. The one question which was not brought up is RM’s reliability given their first models are turning 21. How long do they last in daily use before needing a service? How expensive is a service from RM?

    • @MarcoFerranteWatches
      @MarcoFerranteWatches Рік тому +6

      In terms of servicing, their watches are fairly reliable. As expected servicing is not cheap and will start pretty easily in the $1000+ range for a time only piece. That's without adding complications, case refinishing, replacing components all of which will add to the cost of course. But you can say this about every major brand - servicing is where watch companies make some pretty big margins 👍

    • @patrickjean-philippe7679
      @patrickjean-philippe7679 Рік тому +2

      I think servicing is also where many brands should bring the most improvements as it is a fairly time consuming bumpy ride riddled with uncertainty as to the QC outcome for the customer… In general, horror stories abound. I am not thinking about Richard Mille’ service here as I have yet to come across any feedback.

      Marco, Would you be able to dissect and discuss about the various chronographs triggers, their advantages and disadvantages with the perspective of the manufacturers and the users. For instance Omega the calibre 321 (Lemania relied upon by many of the best manufactures) is a column wheel actuated chronograph but why would Omega switch to a cam actuated mechanism for 1861 and 3861 calibres ? Is it because it is cheaper to manufacture, that it requires less maintenance, etc…? Which method is the most horologically noble ?

    Curious to hear your view on RM vs MB&F....do you think the latter is overtaking the former in terms of brand strength/ credibility?

    • @MarcoFerranteWatches
      @MarcoFerranteWatches Рік тому

      Very difficult to compare these two brands. Both have tremendous merits for ownership. On the one hand, RM is more of a hyper sports watch that is solidly built whereas MB&F still has its roots in classical watchmaking despite having very futuristic designs. I think there is no doubt MB&F is gaining tremendous exposure and gaining a solid following while RM still continues to do what they do. At the end of the day all RM models are selling year after year - it will be interesting to see how this market ends up evolving over time. I think with respect to MB&F people are starting to finally realize Max's design genius - I like to refer to him as the modern day Gerald Genta - and him and Stephen McDonnell together are a powerful force and the sky is the limit for them 😁👍

      @@MarcoFerranteWatches cheers! Appreciate your comprehensive reply...as you pointed out in the video, I do wonder if RM has lost its lustre a bit....ie 72-01 is an amazing watch, but it's not the same wow factor/ statement as the 11-03 (although i feel they captured the trends towards smaller watches well)....UP-01 is really a concept watch, edition of 10 or 20 yes, but 150 way too many at that price point....RM 88 I equally had a question mark, it kind of didn't fit in....and now the 17-02 again quite plain...certainly the collaboration with Ferrari hold a lot of potential...but feel that the momentum is really with MB&F and is another level of limited production....btw what you didn't mention the RM boutiques are a different level of experience to PP...and the genius with the straps, which completely change the watch

    While I can admire their outside the box thinking The story of the brand and how fast they burst onto the scene in such a saturated market to make a world class time pieces that would eventually sell at a premium the craftsmanship and attention to detail the variety of materials and the insane and complicated movements I’ve never really been a big fan of rectangular or square watches but besides that most of them just look too flashy and gaudy for me and kind of tacky with some wild color schemes and I have a big wrist and like big way he’s but some of these are just monsters I feel like the big watch trend has kind of gone by the way side. So you’re paying 6 figures for in some cases a plastic case although it’s just as much or more than precious metals is crazy to me and top it all off you don’t even get a bracelet! it’s either rubber or a Cheap looking elastic band and you could buy a Rolex for the price it would take to replace some of those bands. I prefer the iconic heavy hitters if I’m going to spend this much it might sound crazy but I’d honestly rather have panerai, a grand seiko, or even an omega over a Richard Mille

      The whole luxury goods segment has huge massive mark-ups but that’s fine as it is the very nature of the beast to create Veblen goods. If these were cheap then the luxury and associated Veblen good aspect would disappear instantly… People are drawn into luxury items primarily because these are expensive which projects an image of exclusivity, status, craftsmanship appreciation and what not but much less so for their genuine intrinsic value. Marketing and packaging help support these feelings which target the customers narcissistic fibre before anything else.

    As always, well presented content here by the LB crew. That said, my prediction is that RMs will be the most overhyped watch of all time. Polarizing for sure and when RM crashes, it will be epic. These ugly watches will grow old and unappealing to the flex culture, main stream musicians/artists and high profile athletes at some point. The RM lacks timeless style and will become a very dated look that will grow unappealing over time like the DeLoreran or De Tomaso sports car...or dare I say, the Members Only jacket of the 1980s🤣! The big question is when...not if.
