Is diesel worth the huge price jump?
Nope
V10 9mpg towing. 10000 miles/9*average gas price (3.34) = $3711 per 10000 miles. Diesel 10000/14*average diesel price ($4.58) =$3200. Diesel not worth the extra price. It's just not there.
I don't care what anyone says. I'd take the dodge.
I drive a 98 dodge 2500 8.0 v10. And I would rather have it over any Ford Diesel 7.3.
You can chip the v10 just like you can the 7.3, you can improve the HP up to 60hp and massive torque improvements for 99$. The v10 was made to compete with diesel engines of the day. There are FEW gas engines that produce 450ftlb of torque, even today.
What chip is this? I have a dodge v10 and wouldn’t mind looking into the chip
I have owned several 2500 & 3500 2nd Gen Dodges. All have been very trouble free. Very good ride and handling. Only one truck had the dreaded cracked dash. I replaced the complete upper dash with a new unit from LMC Truck, the new dash I think was better than original in build quality and material than OEM. I do wish Dodge had built a full size SUV I most likely would have one of them.
If you keep your road speed between 55 & 60 mph you get pretty good MPG with the V10.
The V10 makes 400ftlbs at 1000rpm. Its a beast
Wow!
It can tow almost anything but you won't pass a gas station. And I'm a proud 8.0l owner.
@@KelliGrayoffroad Yes. I have to remortgage my house at every fill up but I love that V10
Love it!
Great educational video guys I just got a Ram2500 v10 gas
A lot of the issues you have with your ram I have on my 95. Glad I saw this video.
I have a 1998 Ram 2500 V10 Clubcab. 119k miles and I love it, had to install the steering stabilizer and steering box. The Ford guy constantly mentions how the V10 is not worth much, may be not as much at the Power Stroke but a nice condition V10 go for decent money. The V10 is built for towing it can pull pretty much anything.
Hello and thank you for your time making these videos. Would you recommend a diesel or gas to pull a 3,500 and a 6,500 lbs trailer RV…….what brand would you recommend?
Thank you for your time
For that light of a trailer any half ton with the larger engine option can do it. A 3/4 will give you much better stability and durability if you will do it every day but the repairs will cost more as components are larger and overall more expensive. It's more easier to guage what your options are if you have a budget. If you will get new a Tundra will do it easily but 2014 to 2018 seemed to be the best as the 2019 had the trans cooler removed and 2013 and older had issues with the air injection pump.
In the end the more you know your vehicle and it's limits as well as being able to repair it will be your best vehicle.
On some 2nd gen ram trucks that had leather seats as an option you could get heated leather seats
The only reason i want a diesel is because i grew up around my dads 6.0 and loved working on diesels with him and i just love the sound and how mechanically they work. I own an 01 dodge 2500 with a v10 in it and have been thinking about swapping it with a 24v.
This comedy should be called a tale of 2 trucks
Where did you buy parts?
It woulda been nice if they woulda matched the V-10's together. The Ford V-10 wasn't quite as stout as the dodge, it had much smaller displacement, but it was very durable, reliable and incredibly smooth
It's just crazy that's the little amount of power those massive engines could make with that many cylinders. It could've made at least 450hp and at least 575 lb tq
@@blackice7408 Although the Ford had 10 cylinders, they were small displacement cylinders, with a very small bore. The power they made was quite impressive considering the low compression and they didn't have variable cam timing. 362 hp & 460 lbs of torque is still very good.
Never in my life did I think I’d watch an hour straight of nothing but the Canadian national anthem
Bro its a 20 year old dodge what do u think
My dad has a 95 2500 manual Cummins and my uncle has the 99 24 valve Cummins manual lasts forever
People bought trucks in the 90s because they were actually used for truck purposes. Most new trucks dont see dirt and more of a status symbol. I'd never spend $80k on a truck.
What is the v10 mpg
11-13mpg like it sits (not towing)
9.1 lol 99 ram but mine is running 33s
2001 Quad Cab 2500 4x4 with 47RE, 4.10s and 35" mud tires---15 mpg highway @ 70 MPH constant. Generally around 10 to 13 mixed. 8-9 street. I've gotten up to 15 towing around 7,000 lbs on level ground at 55-65. 7 to 9 towing VERY heavy. 7 to 8 driving like a total fuckin madman. Actually not bad at all for what they are. Skip the 3.54s or mileage (all but comtinuous low speed highway MPG) will PLUMMET.
@@davidduplessis7800 very well said. Mine is off road only so says a ton.
Friend had a 96 V10, with 3.55 gears 2wd. It would average 18 on the highway unloaded and averaged 14 pulling a 40’ fifth wheel flat trailer gross weight 14,000. We pulled race car on weekends and it didn’t even know the car and trailer were behind it.
I'm a ram guy so dodge.
The gm 8.1 trucks would have the Allison 1000s
Ford power baby 100%
Cry babies about everything the reliability of the the ram v10 is amazing ask me I have three
Would you recommend one for daily I don’t tow just want a power house truck
I am thinking the v10.
V10 all day everyday. My 96 never gives up 210000miles.Doesn't leak anything doesn't burn any most reliable vehicle i've ever owned and i've owned over forty...
100 dodge
Yup! I have over 500,000 HARD miles on my 2001. I mean seriously abused miles....no leaks, no burning oil. Engine never torn apart. Replaced 1 rocker arm bolt that came out and that's it.
@@davidduplessis7800 cant break a dodges engine, my dad has 378k on his 99 318 with original transmission and its pulled wayy over its recommended weight lol
