Just started the vid and the intro game I already 100% am disappointed. I still played and will play the DLC. But man they dumbed down the game. I thought coming off of nioh 2 it was going to be a free home run but they really underserved. Wo long should of been great. If you get the chance try nioh 2 you will be amazed by how good it is in comparison. Great content as usual.
I completely agree with you. Wo long was one of the few games I wanted the most after playing Nioh 2 with a buddy and even though I had fun, this game was clearly not all it should've been. From weapon variety to challenge (for me) and even the story being even more disjointed than usual. The overall experience just left me feeling like I should've waited for a discount on the game.
Same. I tend to absolutely hate soulslikes and yet I enjoyed Nioh 2: the Diablo loot was really well implemented there, however Wo Long felt just boring and annoying.
I haven't played Wo Long yet (after initial reviews I decided to wait until it goes on sale), but I believe that the main issue here was that Team Ninja had 2 major projects in development at once and because of that Wo Long got less attention than it deserved. Shame, since I have very little interest in Rise of Ronin, I hate open worlds and non-soulslike combat systems
Jedi Survivor is one of my favorite games. It breaks my heart that people playing on PC are unable to enjoy it. Even on PS5 it was far from perfect, but i loved it.

The sad thing about Jedi Survivor is someone basically fixed it with a dlss mod, if you have an Nvidia card. If EA hadn't gotten greedy and made it an AMD sponsored game, a lot of people (Nvidia cards are by far more popular than AMD) would have had a much better experience. With the mod, almost all the problems I had were fixed. It went from a stuttery blurry mess, to pretty awesome. Frame generation made it smooth with a steady 120+ fps, and fixed the stutters, and dlss fixes the horrid fsr2 blurry garabage.
Personally I think they stripped a ridiculous amount from the game to cater to fans of Sekiro. Most people that try Nioh are very vocal about the difficulty of getting into the game mechanics, but it was what made the two stand out and honestly, Nioh 2 mechanically is way better than DS3 or ER. It's not a bad game, but for someone who likes to use every tool at their disposal instead of just being man with sword, I had to skip it.
@@Relhio after playing stranger of paradise, i was asking myself why Wo Long decided to--as you say--strip down mechanics. I'm talking about the lack of combat variety tied to the abilities being only two per weapon unless you roll a new one. Strange of Paradise made do with changing combo abilities depending on how many inputs you make.
I despair or tech tubers using Forspoken to describe why people should get better hardware (in particular a GPU with more VRAM). The simple issue is the game SHOULD NOT require this hardware because visually and in terms of gameplay, AI and image quality it provides no improvement over games 4 or 5 years old. It is not as visually impressive as Elden Ring - nor Cyberpunk (as it is now- not at launch) nor even AC:Odyssey and similar games from the last decade. It needs higher PC requirements because it is poorly coded and poorly optimised
Wo Long is still completely unplayable for me and my PC is better than their recommended specs. It just stutters non-stop, as in the game never has a single second of not stuttering. It ran perfectly well on like the intro zone, but as soon as the real game started it started to barely run at all. It's a huge shame because I think the game itself is awesome, so much so that I did actually power through and somehow play it even with the constant stuttering for a while but I simply couldn't put up with the performance after a certain point.
I was kinda enjoying Forspoken (~4h) while I could play it until it just kept crashing on startup because I tried to put it on high to see how it'd run. Since it starts to load everything on the menu, my VRAM would hit past 8GB and instantly crash. Really sucks to see that 8GB is not really playable on these 2023 games.
I will probably give stray blades a chance wants its cooked for a while but never had any interest in the others, all look exactly like what I expect out of ZZZ, rinse, repeat and get it out the door.
I am playing it right now. I am playing it with a female character and I personally like the main character duo. Combat and camera got a good overhaul with patch 1.7. I have two issues, for me it feels a bit stretched and I maxed out all the weapons waaaay to fast. It lost a bit fun in the middle for me. Also the low budget solution covering all faces with helmets and masks is not the best one but I can live with it. Stray blade was in the beginning a straight 9/10 because I love these vibrant worlds which are reminding me of the PS 1 and 2 era. But with the stretched levels and the weapon leveling I would now give it a 7/10 but not worse. It's still fun and good, but due to it's budget a bit rough here and there.
I was trying to remember the title yesterday in a conversation with my husband and when I finally looked up the list of recent square Enix games, he had no idea what game I was talking about. Had to look up the cringe trailer to jog his memory. 😅
I'm waiting for a $5-on-sale Redfall myself. Usually those prices are reserved for games at least 10 years old, but I'm betting Redfall hits that mark well before a decade passes.
Wo Long's biggest problem was going from Ni-Oh's gear system to Dark Souls' system, without changing the amount of loot drops. In Ni-Oh you feed gear into each other to level it up, so there is a need for constant drops; once you have a +9 set of armor in Wo Long with the affixes you want all the loot you get from then on is worthless, but it keeps dropping at a Diablo/Ni-Oh rate
@@christophertheofilos1063 I haven't played Wu-Long but if it is the same loot system with Nioh, then yes for the first few playthrough/NG+ that's more like it. But in the later stages of NG+ (NG5?) , the loot chase will be totally different. There are "star" attributes in items which can only be dropped and can't be crafted. You may chase for those items with the best 2-3 star attributes and with the correct set. So at the end-game, drops will do matter depending on your build unless you are godly that can beat any enemies naked. Also there's a loot filter to only show the highest tier item when an item drops. These are only true if Wu-Long has the same exact loot system compared to Nioh.
@Eldtrich it doesn't. Instead of Gatcha feeding a +1 and a +1 to get a +2, you have Dark Souls material components (tier 1 leather for armor, steel for weapons, up to +9). So no need to get showered in loot when you can get guaranteed sets from raising friendship with the npc's
Sad to see it. On a completely other note, I'm currently obsessed with Battle Brothers. It's deep, and fascinating, and looks like it could be very rewarding if I can wrap my brain around it.
I forgot about that 'flash in the pan' travesty. It's a shame as I actually enjoyed the older Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games back in the day. The initial teaser trailer they released was definitely a warning though...
@Mortis When you play Nioh at some point, you will get tons of loot. Remember: You can mark all at once and sell / dismantle / exchange for xp On your first playthrough, wear what you find is better, get xp for the rest at shrine. Second playthough forward, dismantle for crafting mats and craft your gear when you farmed the smithing scrolls for the items you want. (or just play the rng and hope it drops)
I haven't played Wu-Long, but if it is similar to Nioh's loot then there will be "Star" item attributes which you can't craft and can only be looted. This is where his gripe on the game gets addressed. True, early game you can craft your ideal item / weapon but on the much later stages of NG+, you will want those "Star" items which are totally random. To me this is where the loot chase begins. Of course this doesn't matter if you are godly in the game where you can defeat any enemies in any NG+ naked. Again, this will all be true if Wu-Long has the same exact system compared to Nioh.

The poor technical state of these games is just one other reason pre-ordering hurts everyone. Don't reward a corporation for releasing a game. It sends a message that we don't care. (Maybe we don't?) If we want to represent our performance standards to these publishers, we need to start waiting until after-release reviews come out BEFORE we buy. If the game is crap, sales should reflect that. Pre-ordering, and release-day purchasing is just irresponsible consumerism. I think we, as a whole, share a lot of the blame for corporations finding value in lowering their QA standards. Another option is to have a credentialing-like organization that vet games before release so that companies can advertise that their games passed performance standards. Not sure if we'll ever see that though. I think Nintendo used to have a gold standard on the NES, if memory serves
For me the biggest dissapointment was the Last of Us PC port. I have wanted to play this game ever since I watched the live reveal during E3 (I think, might be misremembering the exact event). I didn't have a PS3 or a PS4 and every time I saw gameplay or clips or anything of the game, all I could think about was getting to play it one day. Imagine my excitement when the PC port was revelead. This was also only a couple months after I bought a new PC after 10 years of gaming on a potato. It has a 12700F processor and an RTX3070Ti. I still haven't found a game that I couldn't play on at the very least high, with most of the time the game in question running on ultra at 1440p, even Cyberpunk ran smoothly. Then the port came out. I waited half an hour for the shaders to compile. Ok, a bit strange but at least the game will run better if it doesn't have to do it as I play, right? Game starts, characters hair looks like its made from pissed on straw. Some weird visual artifacts here and there. Ok, internet says to restart the game, fixes it. A minor bump but now I'm ready to play this thing I've been waiting on for 10 years. Nope, apparently my GPU isn't good enough. Okay, I will drop down to high, after all it says the VRAM is maxxed out. Still stutters. First crash happens. Fine, I will drop it to medium. Game now looks like ass with textures on objects looking about the same as a PS2 game. Damn okay, but at least it's stable now, right? Nope again. Still stutters randomly, and I've experienced about 4 more crashes in the span of about an hour. Uninstalled the game, haven't gone back to it yet. I know it had many patches since then. Maybe if I go back now, it will be smooth, it will be stable, it will run at graphics that don't look like they got sat on. But I just don't want to anymore. This port has forever sullied the series for me, and even when I do play it to the end in the future, that feeling will never go away. So thank you Sony, or Naughty Dog, or Iron Galaxy. You have ruined maybe one of the best games you've ever made for me. All to save money on porting and to get it out fast.
oh, if your biggest problem with Wo Long were uninspired secondary systems (I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment), then you're gonna LOVE Nioh - these systems are incredibly refined in those games, especially the sequel
Wo Long was just....boring. I wanted to like it so much, so I ended up playing quite a bit more by sheer willpower than because I was enjoying myself. I ended up giving up and never going back to it. So glad it was on GamePass so I didn't have to waste a direct purchase on it.
Wild Hearts deserved a place on this list. Another EA game that launched with unacceptable performance on PC. Core gameplay was decent but the stuttering was horrific for very mediocre graphics.
I play Jedi survivor on the ps5 right now and already have over 100 hours with 3-4 crashes and zero bugs so far. I am absolutely amazed by the game. It’s one of the best open world games I played in a long time and I enjoy every second of it. But I agree with your opinion because if the performance on pc is really that bad it’s impossible to really experience it or even enjoy it. I think it’s sad that so many games lately have this kind of problems and i am especially sad that’s it the case with jedi survivor on the pc because it is actually a masterpiece im my opinion.
I don't understand what these bigger devs are thinking. Like if anyone can answer this for me, please do. Why do they release a game that is just bad and considered bad by so many people? Don't they play their own game before releasing?
I agree with everything on this list, what is sad is so many games launch with technical isses that buying day one is just a bad practice that consumers should not participate in.
Yeah, the concept of fighting with mass area spell chains is definitely under-explored at the moment. You get a tiny taste of that with certain super hero and anti-hero games, but nothing that lets you feel like a walking force of nature.
I agree about Wo Long. It had great combat and boss fights, and I actually enjoyed my time playing a great deal. However, the complex, Diablo-style loot system, along with many other mechanics, felt half-baked and redundant, and added little of meaning to the experience.

Would be curious to know if your thoughts on Forspoken have changed after the update and DLC today. Not only does the story expansion cover the purge of the Rheddig (the big event that was left out in the main game) - but the update also adds a very hard and ultimate difficulty, as well as fixing performance issues and patching loads of stuff like the awkward dialogue pauses. I don’t think it’s worth revisiting or anything, but hopefully it’s not the same tainted product it was way back when you 100%ed it.
Unfortunately, what tipped me over into complete disinterest was what I heard about the combat. Constantly running away while hurling magic projectiles didn't sound like something that would get my blood pumping. It basically sounded like playing a Sorcerer in Elden Ring, only with enough mobility to take all the risk/reward out of casting spells. I imagine a difficulty slider would only drag that out, either making enemies even spongier, or making me less spongey, neither would make it more fun to play.
@@sageoftruth I agree, that’s definitely a downside of the combat. You might be interested to know the “very hard” mode added in the latest patch addresses that. It doesn’t just make enemies have more health and damage. It reworks the combat, scaling your damage based off your performance in the Devil May Cry combat style meter that the game has. Really encourages playing with finesse and creativity instead of just spamming the same high damage spells and playing it safe.
jedi survivor is a fantastic game hindered by awful performance. i crashed so many times i could count it on 2 pairs of hands, and the patches aren't working either. killed my desire to 100% it.
Wish I have your persistence in playing games to 100% or close enough. I keep buying new games but never finishing them. Well, I am looking forward to Diablo 4 another new game I am getting. But this time... I am 100% sure I will 100% it and more since Diablo 2 is the game I played growing up.

4:36 I mean, that soldier isn't wrong. Everything in that screen capture should not be... As for me, I wonder if Redfall and Forspoken will dampen the urge of developers to throw an open world into their games. On the flipside, I am still looking forward to Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 later this year. Games should have a core focus that do really well in, to avoid those lackluster launches.
I usually really like your reviews but o noticed you never really give any bad ones or say games or bad even in disappointing you don’t say any are bad. Maybe that is just your style but there are bad games I feel. Star Wars on consoles released fine and never crashed I think this is just of gaming in all lately. Still like the video just I think it’s weird I have been watching and I have not seen a bad review from you like ever.
For me virtually all my crashes on Jedi Survivor were related to ray tracing. I assume by "second planet" you mean Jedha (even if it's technically the 3rd, it's the 2nd after the prologue). There was one room on Jedha between the landing pad for the ship and the library where every single time I used the force to push the ball thing to switch which door was open (I assume in this case used to hide loading), the game would crash. Once I turned ray tracing off I got one crash in around 100 hours of play time (and I had cheat engine open at the time, so I can't be sure it wasn't my fault). Not that ray tracing crashing your game is acceptable, though even without it the games visuals were pretty good.
I'm mostly excited for Baldur's Gate III 's full launch, the new Solasta DLC, the Etrian Odyssey remasters, and Hyper Light Breaker. Starfall looks cool too but will be awhile before I can get to it.
There have been a few games released this year that I probably would have bought if they launched in a stable condition. Now they've been put in my "Maybe I'll buy them once they run well" pile but, really, I won't get to them all now. A busy year is a terrible time to drop a busted game. 🤷♂

Scorn was amazing but my god they marketed it terribly. People went in expecting a doom like game which scorn is Not. It's more closely to a walking sim with puzzles and minor combat thrown in. Trying to sell it as something it never was really didn't help.
It's to avoid technical problems that generally don't buy games at launch. I got burned with Andromeda... I'm making an exception with miasma today I hope there aren't any shenanigans...

I strongly suspect Forspoken had very poor localisation services - that clumsily implemented translation from Japanese to heavily weighted American English completely missed the nuance and impact of the language shift, turning a poor script into an appalling one.
At least they had a playable demo a while ago and ran fine, haven't heard any complaints from others either so it may run fine at least when it launches if it runs like the demo
Some of these games may be, or have already been, fixed with respect to the technical issues, but unfortunately it looks like Redfall won't be among them... I haven't heard anything about major patches or fixes for the game's problems; it seems to have been abandoned at launch.
I can't recall where I've seen it, but Microsoft made an announcement after Redfall launch (saying the usual stupid things like "really? It's not good? We didn't know!"... 😪) and said that Arkane is working on a patch. My guess is that they want to make a really big one to give the full experience it should have been and that takes a long time (well, the time they should have given them to be able to finish the game). I hope it's really what's happening, either way, they should learn to communicate...

Of course this doesn't matter if you are godly in the game where you can defeat any enemies in any NG+ naked. Again, this will all be true if Wu-Long has the same exact system compared to Nioh.
@@Eldtrich Nioh was superior to Wo-Long. Wo Long felt like a downgrade from Nioh 2 --- kind of like I was playing Nioh 1.5. And I'm a HUGE fan of the Nioh series too.

The poor technical state of these games is just one other reason pre-ordering hurts everyone.
Don't reward a corporation for releasing a game. It sends a message that we don't care. (Maybe we don't?)
If we want to represent our performance standards to these publishers, we need to start waiting until after-release reviews come out BEFORE we buy. If the game is crap, sales should reflect that.
Pre-ordering, and release-day purchasing is just irresponsible consumerism. I think we, as a whole, share a lot of the blame for corporations finding value in lowering their QA standards.
Another option is to have a credentialing-like organization that vet games before release so that companies can advertise that their games passed performance standards. Not sure if we'll ever see that though. I think Nintendo used to have a gold standard on the NES, if memory serves

For me the biggest dissapointment was the Last of Us PC port. I have wanted to play this game ever since I watched the live reveal during E3 (I think, might be misremembering the exact event). I didn't have a PS3 or a PS4 and every time I saw gameplay or clips or anything of the game, all I could think about was getting to play it one day. Imagine my excitement when the PC port was revelead. This was also only a couple months after I bought a new PC after 10 years of gaming on a potato. It has a 12700F processor and an RTX3070Ti. I still haven't found a game that I couldn't play on at the very least high, with most of the time the game in question running on ultra at 1440p, even Cyberpunk ran smoothly.
Then the port came out. I waited half an hour for the shaders to compile. Ok, a bit strange but at least the game will run better if it doesn't have to do it as I play, right? Game starts, characters hair looks like its made from pissed on straw. Some weird visual artifacts here and there. Ok, internet says to restart the game, fixes it. A minor bump but now I'm ready to play this thing I've been waiting on for 10 years. Nope, apparently my GPU isn't good enough. Okay, I will drop down to high, after all it says the VRAM is maxxed out. Still stutters. First crash happens. Fine, I will drop it to medium. Game now looks like ass with textures on objects looking about the same as a PS2 game. Damn okay, but at least it's stable now, right? Nope again. Still stutters randomly, and I've experienced about 4 more crashes in the span of about an hour. Uninstalled the game, haven't gone back to it yet.
I know it had many patches since then. Maybe if I go back now, it will be smooth, it will be stable, it will run at graphics that don't look like they got sat on. But I just don't want to anymore. This port has forever sullied the series for me, and even when I do play it to the end in the future, that feeling will never go away. So thank you Sony, or Naughty Dog, or Iron Galaxy. You have ruined maybe one of the best games you've ever made for me. All to save money on porting and to get it out fast.
oh, if your biggest problem with Wo Long were uninspired secondary systems (I haven't played it yet, so I can't comment), then you're gonna LOVE Nioh - these systems are incredibly refined in those games, especially the sequel
Wo Long was just....boring. I wanted to like it so much, so I ended up playing quite a bit more by sheer willpower than because I was enjoying myself. I ended up giving up and never going back to it. So glad it was on GamePass so I didn't have to waste a direct purchase on it.
Wild Hearts deserved a place on this list. Another EA game that launched with unacceptable performance on PC. Core gameplay was decent but the stuttering was horrific for very mediocre graphics.

On Wo Long, I think if you have played Nioh2 and Sekiro, you would find the conbat to be very underwhelming as well.

I play Jedi survivor on the ps5 right now and already have over 100 hours with 3-4 crashes and zero bugs so far. I am absolutely amazed by the game. It’s one of the best open world games I played in a long time and I enjoy every second of it. But I agree with your opinion because if the performance on pc is really that bad it’s impossible to really experience it or even enjoy it. I think it’s sad that so many games lately have this kind of problems and i am especially sad that’s it the case with jedi survivor on the pc because it is actually a masterpiece im my opinion.
How about Darkest Dungeon 2 and Last Spell. For me games of this year. I'm curious how fast you can clear them.

Yeah, the concept of fighting with mass area spell chains is definitely under-explored at the moment. You get a tiny taste of that with certain super hero and anti-hero games, but nothing that lets you feel like a walking force of nature.

I agree about Wo Long. It had great combat and boss fights, and I actually enjoyed my time playing a great deal. However, the complex, Diablo-style loot system, along with many other mechanics, felt half-baked and redundant, and added little of meaning to the experience.
Being a huge fan of Team Ninja games, I also agree about Wo Long. Felt like Nioh 1.5 tbh. Def did not live up to all of the hype.

Would be curious to know if your thoughts on Forspoken have changed after the update and DLC today. Not only does the story expansion cover the purge of the Rheddig (the big event that was left out in the main game) - but the update also adds a very hard and ultimate difficulty, as well as fixing performance issues and patching loads of stuff like the awkward dialogue pauses.
I don’t think it’s worth revisiting or anything, but hopefully it’s not the same tainted product it was way back when you 100%ed it.

Unfortunately, what tipped me over into complete disinterest was what I heard about the combat. Constantly running away while hurling magic projectiles didn't sound like something that would get my blood pumping. It basically sounded like playing a Sorcerer in Elden Ring, only with enough mobility to take all the risk/reward out of casting spells. I imagine a difficulty slider would only drag that out, either making enemies even spongier, or making me less spongey, neither would make it more fun to play.
@@sageoftruth I agree, that’s definitely a downside of the combat. You might be interested to know the “very hard” mode added in the latest patch addresses that.
It doesn’t just make enemies have more health and damage. It reworks the combat, scaling your damage based off your performance in the Devil May Cry combat style meter that the game has. Really encourages playing with finesse and creativity instead of just spamming the same high damage spells and playing it safe.

jedi survivor is a fantastic game hindered by awful performance. i crashed so many times i could count it on 2 pairs of hands, and the patches aren't working either. killed my desire to 100% it.
Wish I have your persistence in playing games to 100% or close enough. I keep buying new games but never finishing them. Well, I am looking forward to Diablo 4 another new game I am getting. But this time... I am 100% sure I will 100% it and more since Diablo 2 is the game I played growing up.

As for me, I wonder if Redfall and Forspoken will dampen the urge of developers to throw an open world into their games.
On the flipside, I am still looking forward to Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 later this year. Games should have a core focus that do really well in, to avoid those lackluster launches.

I usually really like your reviews but o noticed you never really give any bad ones or say games or bad even in disappointing you don’t say any are bad. Maybe that is just your style but there are bad games I feel. Star Wars on consoles released fine and never crashed I think this is just of gaming in all lately. Still like the video just I think it’s weird I have been watching and I have not seen a bad review from you like ever.
For me virtually all my crashes on Jedi Survivor were related to ray tracing. I assume by "second planet" you mean Jedha (even if it's technically the 3rd, it's the 2nd after the prologue). There was one room on Jedha between the landing pad for the ship and the library where every single time I used the force to push the ball thing to switch which door was open (I assume in this case used to hide loading), the game would crash.
Once I turned ray tracing off I got one crash in around 100 hours of play time (and I had cheat engine open at the time, so I can't be sure it wasn't my fault).
Not that ray tracing crashing your game is acceptable, though even without it the games visuals were pretty good.
I'm mostly excited for Baldur's Gate III 's full launch, the new Solasta DLC, the Etrian Odyssey remasters, and Hyper Light Breaker. Starfall looks cool too but will be awhile before I can get to it.
There have been a few games released this year that I probably would have bought if they launched in a stable condition. Now they've been put in my "Maybe I'll buy them once they run well" pile but, really, I won't get to them all now. A busy year is a terrible time to drop a busted game. 🤷♂
Ngl the price and production level really matters for me when it comes to the feedback of the game, Deadisland 2 an AA game for example was 37$ on epic

I really enjoyed Jedi Survivor on PS5 but it crashed a lot. This is my only gripe with the game. Everything else with the game I thought was good.

Scorn was amazing but my god they marketed it terribly. People went in expecting a doom like game which scorn is Not. It's more closely to a walking sim with puzzles and minor combat thrown in. Trying to sell it as something it never was really didn't help.
It's to avoid technical problems that generally don't buy games at launch. I got burned with Andromeda...

I strongly suspect Forspoken had very poor localisation services - that clumsily implemented translation from Japanese to heavily weighted American English completely missed the nuance and impact of the language shift, turning a poor script into an appalling one.

At least they had a playable demo a while ago and ran fine, haven't heard any complaints from others either so it may run fine at least when it launches if it runs like the demo
Some of these games may be, or have already been, fixed with respect to the technical issues, but unfortunately it looks like Redfall won't be among them... I haven't heard anything about major patches or fixes for the game's problems; it seems to have been abandoned at launch.
I can't recall where I've seen it, but Microsoft made an announcement after Redfall launch (saying the usual stupid things like "really? It's not good? We didn't know!"... 😪) and said that Arkane is working on a patch. My guess is that they want to make a really big one to give the full experience it should have been and that takes a long time (well, the time they should have given them to be able to finish the game). I hope it's really what's happening, either way, they should learn to communicate...
