    1) Your coffee mug is in the family of one of mine, gifted to me by my granddaughters: "BEST. GRANDPA. EVER." And as you know, coffee mugs never lie.
    2) Did you clean your cob after the first smoke? If not, the second and unfiltered smoke didn't get a fair trial.
    3) I am supposing that you have a number of different briars in your stable. The Savinelli will give you a fine smoke, for sure. But I'm betting that another Savinelli differs a little, not to mention a Wally Frank, a Peterson, and so on.
    4) I have a good reason for fearing to break my clays. Experience.
    5) Enjoyed this vid.

      I love that clay churchwarden. Really unique smoking experience. It is really challenging to light however - such a long reach and the bowl angles away so I can't see what's happening! LOL

    Great video, and a great experiment. I also find I have different experiences with different shape pipes of the same material, with the same tobacco. So I'm also fascinated with the effect of different airflows in different shaped bowls. But then there are so many variables, even humidity and temperature, that if I wasn't having so much fun I'd possibly drive myself insane 😂.

    I once bought a small Meerschaum pipe (not corn cob, mistakenly thinking I was buying a larger size one) My tobacco, in this case, Mississippi River tasted much better in a much larger Briar pipe.

    How much time did you have between pipes? I'm wondering if the nicotine built up in your system so you felt more and nic hit from first to last pipe. Flavor too possibly. Good job on the vid too.

    Got to taste Rustica also in different pipes. I don't have any morta pipes but cob, meer and clay I have. I've only smoked it in briar. I've noticed that different days I got different taste of tobacco depending what I've eaten or smoked before.

  • @neolexington
    @neolexington 4 роки тому

    The design and the material of the pipe absolutely change the characteristics of the tobacco smoke. It's always interesting to see what comes out of each different pipe combination. Clays are amazing, they provide a pure unadulterated taste of the tobacco IMHO. Cobs have always put a sweet spin on tobacco for me. Morta is similar to a clay but different, especially if a cake is formed in the bowl.

    • @thevirtualpipeclub215
      @thevirtualpipeclub215  4 роки тому

      Sounds like you have a morta that has built up a cake - something that doesn't happen in the clay. I haven't smoked my mortas enough to have any kind of coating - I wonder if the taste will change as that happens. Hmmm

    • @neolexington
      @neolexington 4 роки тому

      @@thevirtualpipeclub215 Yes exactly, when morta first came out people would say that they don't build cake. I've found that to be false even after a clean between bowls. Thanks!

    Nice! I do wish you would have mentioned if you used a balsa wood filter in the Savinelli as well as who made the other pipes in the video.

    • @david-dorianross5813
      @david-dorianross5813 4 роки тому

      Greg the truth is I didn't even think about using the balsa filter in the Savinelli. I have boxes of them, but I usually smoke those pipes (I have two 320s) without using the filter.

    Great idea and presentation. Did you use a balsa filter in the briar? I'm guessing you would have mentioned if you did. Also. Do 9mm charcoal filters give same experience as one used in the cob?

      they dont. no difference. quite a few like to tell you otherwise though. But we must be aware that there is a LOT of pretentiousness going on in the YTPC. just like in the modern art world or wine sommeliers. The shape of a pipe or the size of a pipe has no effect. size only changes the smoking time

      it doesnt. Porcelain pipes have the most unaltered flavour without a doubt. meerschaums and clay is porous soaking up flavour from previous smokes. porcelain doesnt.

    Great video again David! I wonder.....do you or have you ever smoked cigarettes? This is not a loaded question at all. I just wonder how that might have affected your assessments of nicotine levels.....if at all. I’m a total nicotine wimp by the way LOL!!! Nicotiana rustica aka Wild Tobacco has the highest level of nicotine of any varietal. That’s really cool how the different pipes translate the properties of the tobacco differently. I totally agree.....different pipes will bring out and highlight different aspects of every tobacco in different ways. You’re a brave man tackling that tobacco! Check out my first video venturing into helping others with their journey into pipe smoking. Part two coming this weekend! Here’s the link.... ua-cam.com/video/yI9ugWH2Y5c/v-deo.html

My Sifu is William Graves.....Our lineage goes back directly to Ip Man through William Cheung and Leung Chung. I thoroughly enjoyed it but haven’t trained in some years as I haven’t lived near another instructors the same lineage for quite a while. I miss it!
