- The San Antonio Spurs comtinue to just make all the right moves this NBA offseason and NBA Draft. Victor Wembanyama now has 2 vets around him that are perfect fits in both Chris Paul and now Harrison Barnes. Spurs got Barnes from the Kings and Bulls Trade for Demar Derozan.

Great points. Plus the UNPROTECTED pick swap in ‘31 is a huge asset. Kings could be terrible by then, who knows. This move was a massive W for the Spurs

Harrison Barnes seems like a good fit, i tend to agree.
Anytime I think about Barnes I remember game 1 in the 2013 playoffs vs the Spurs. His shot almost buried us until Manu happened 😊👍🏻 Great acquisition and role player

Hearing we’re going to help the Bulls-Kings trade doesn’t bother me. Spurs know that they need playoff veterans and size. Lauri was plan A, however Ainge is super greedy. I thought of plan B like Cam Johnson or someone else. Harrison Barnes makes the most sense to us. He’s a solid shooter, system player, and I’m happy with this trade

The normal timeline for a future superstar to become top 5 is between the 3rd and 5th year but I think Wemby is the future goat and he could be at least in the top 5 mvp conversation by next year.. so I think the Spurs might actually be a playoff team next season and a championship contender by Wembys 3rd year or at the latest his 4th year. I have a feeling CP3 will somehow be a borderline allstar again at 39 if he stays healthy, similar to how people didn’t expect him to help OKC get to the playoffs in 2020.
Could happen- I bet cp will be ballin with renewed energy playing with Wemby. Will be fun to watch.

You’re talking about 2 different trades. You just described the draft night trade. As you pointed out, that was a pick and a swap for this years #8 pick. The Barnes deal though, was the Spurs taking Barnes contract and we get an unprotected ‘31 pick swap. That’s a huge W for the Spurs. (Technically you’re right that it wasn’t “free” because they also sent a 2nd to Charlotte to take Graham’s contract, but still a great deal)

The Wemby era has begun. You have a veteran PG Chris Paul and now you have a veteran SF that has championship experience. Also a young Rookie that can develop into an amazing option….dude they might mess around and win one in 2 years if developed properly. And they have the right players to do so.
Starting Lineup: Wemby 21PPG, Chris 15PPG; Harrison 14PPG, Vassel 19PPG, Jeremy S 11PPG = 80 pts per game. Give an take. Wemby may avg 25-30pts next season. Their bench players gotta get 20-30pts per game. I feel SA need another scorer. Maybe someone that avgs 15-20ppg. Which is impossible to get. Those type players have been signed. SA needs a unicorn bench player. Otherwise... this crew should make the playoffs.
Keldon Johnson is 24 years old and averaged 15.7 points last year for the Spurs, in case you were unaware

This is a very good move for the Spurs.
I prefer Harrison Barnes contract over d.graham’s Barnes is also a better Vet for what our team needs as far as our young wings. Plus he will see minutes and be a solid role player.
I hope the spurs can round out the roster on cheaper contracts but bring in leadership maybe Evan fournier to help WEMBY feel more comfortable and can still shoot. We need to get back to moving the ball around so players who spread the floor and knock down open jumpers.

Barnes also has a title so he knows what it takes to win. Along with CP3's veterans experience to go with Wemby, I can see promising things. Still missing a few pieces though.
I used to like Fournier, but he is going down down down. He was terrible against Germany yesterday when the rest of the French team was focused and performing well.

I loved what I'm seeing in the movement of spurs management this off season, they only gave the 8th pick but received tons of trade assets (picks) plus this move getting Barnes with 2 2nd rd pick while keeping our cap space
Love the changes the spurs made, Gary Trent Jr is still a free agent very surprised the spurs haven't gone after him.

A physical 4 or 5 would improve the roster, and gives more freedom to Wemby on both end of the floor.
If Wemby was at the 4 he would be a even better defender they should use him defensively like how Milwaukee uses giannis

Do we want Wimby to specialized in holy hoops or improve his game and be like Olajuwon? Don’t get me wrong. Chris Paul is a top 5 PG of all times and if he had better coaches he’d have 2-3 rings easily. But, he has worked best with limited centers who can only jump high, and those who had other skills (Ayton) diminished after playing with him (coz they didn’t improve in other areas). As for H. Barnes, can’t agree more. He is one of the most underrated player in this Leauge. He has a fade away jump, three points, and can play and defend all 5 positions.

Good move for Spurs because you get a model citizen vet presence, a pick swap and you’re not concerned about winning this year and next year it’s an expiring contract so it’s tradeable.
However I almost spit my drink out when I heard he can guard 1 through 4. His D is average at best.
He will have 6 games each year though that leave you wondering why he can’t play like that all the time.

I'm hoping the Spurs acquire a true center to back up Victor Wembanyama and waive/trade perpetually injured center Charles Bassey. This will also allow them to move Zach Collins back to power forward, his natural position. If they reacquire Dominick Barlow or sign another power forward he can back up Zach.

I'm more excited to see how CP3 develops the players around him for the long run. I'd argue he's a better passer throughout his career than LeBron ever was. More quality passes with far less turnovers

for me going all in for markenin now would be really stupid, Victor make spurs have a 12 years year window why would you go all in in year 2 when you didn t even know how much better he would be next year ? if cp has an injurie it s already not far from over to do something right now, don t give up assets and take some good young guys who can grow with and behind Victor assuring him that they will be at least still competitive after his rookie contract without cp and barnes, they did get them for nearly nothing, they will help Vic and some of the young guys to gaine basketball experience and maybe some play off experience even this year, maybe in 2 year castle will be ready to takeover Cp role, maybe not , maybe at this time you will need to trade vassel for example (because the chemistry don t seem to be insane with vic), maybe you will have some other talents showing up for next draft, then you can start to invest assets to really compete for the ring
I don’t want to give up valuable draft assets for a guy who’s gonna command $200 mil when contract expires. That’s why I’m not 💯 on trading for Markannen.

So i get the whole seasoned vets to teach the young guys but at what cost? With the bulls tanking its unlikely we get their 2025 pick. With atl record being a 50/50 pick the only pick that is safe is our own. If we win 35 plus games there goes that lottery pick and for what? To be slightly better than a bottom division team?

Barnes is definitely starting over champagnie. That's the position that needed upgrading. CP3 and Barnes will bring the veteran leadership and stewardship they needed around their young building blocks of Soham, wemby, and Vassell. Masterful roster building without mortgaging the future with bad contracts for lower impact stars like Lauri, Ingram, or DeRozan. All players with little to no playoff experience or success. Bring in vets who know how to do the little things that win big games. Steer the young guys. Beautiful. Still have draft pics to pounce for more impactful stars
It’s a stretch when you say Castle will be the best player in this draft. Buzelis, Salaun, Reed, to name a few are already better than him whom we could have gotten 2 of those. We can get a PG a PG that isn’t 40 years old. I know he’s there to teach but if you ain’t a PG you ain’t a PG.

Spurs are building a competitive team for '25. They will now exceed regular season wins and probably finish somewhere between 7th and 10th in the West. But Chris is allergic to the Playoffs so he won't play. Their "success" next year will only hurt draft position. Nets pick would have been high but i think that was traded for a Phoenix pick that will probably be similar to the Spurs next year. I know there are other picks involved but it doesn't really help Victor to have good picks in 3-5 years. Two moves i dont like: not keeping Rob and bringing in Paul. Wemby needs a playmaker and Rob was probably the highest ceiling one in the class. And Chris doesnt have what he used to with athleticism. But he has certainly honed his "hurt in the playoffs" skills.
As a Kings fan you are not going to be happy with Barnes. He is one of the most inconsistent players I have even seen.
