    Hey! I've enjoyed you videos and insights for a long time. I was catching up on watching today and found this one on Storm Door Closers. We've lived in our house for 2 years and accepted that the front storm door was not going to close by itself. It has 2 closers attached. I didn't know there was the screw adjustments...???...!!!... On adjusting the screws, I noticed that there were no screws holding the top hinge. Added screws to tighten up the hinges and adjusted the screws on the hydraulics. WHAT? It works! I even adjusted it for the 6" stop and close. THANKS!

    Just installed one as a precaution against the wind slamming the interior door when the garage door is open and it’s windy outside. Thank you.

    We have one of those on a storm door here and the wind has already caught that door and swung it out so hard that the rod in the closer gets bent. It's been changed out twice already, and the one on the door now is also bent. I've also installed a chain to limit the door's travel, this doesn't seem to have helped awful much. I hadn't thought about installing two of these on that particular door, though.

    Looked for your video on how to address the crack at the door where light shows through. Did a quick look at your videos and didn't see that. Did you post a video for that issue, and if so can you advise the title or provide a link? Thanks

    What if my bracket is closer than a quarter inch? Will it make it difficult for the door to shut properly? Our new door won’t shut properly and I wonder if that is the reason?

    Installed a closer like the one in your video for my storm door. All is OK except the door is a little hard to open all the way. It takes a little force. Will the adjustment screw on the cylinder alleviate the tough opening and if so will it slam shut once that's done.. Right now before I do an adjustment it closes perfectly w/o slamming. It's just a bit stiff to open past 45 degrees. Thanks for any advice.

    On a aluminum screen door what's best position for cylinder.Top or about quarter way up (only other option).Thanks

      Hey Jimmy, if you can only install one, I prefer top. It counteracts the pressure of people pushing the door open at chest height better. One down low will often cause the door to twist outward, but one on the top usually keeps it more plumb while opening. Less stress on the mounting hardware 🙂

    Hi Ethan, do you think you can use this contraption on a patio sliding door? I bought one of these and now realizing it’s designed for a regular style door.

    Any advice for a bracket that's come off the door jamb and brought some of the jamb with it?

    • @TheHonestCarpenter
      @TheHonestCarpenter  5 років тому

      David Kutas I’d say definitely take the old closer off first, then see if you can maybe reattach the damaged jamb part with construction adhesive like liquid nails. Then a whole new closer in the same spot, even attached through the same holes, should get it swinging again 🙂

      I installed 3" screws so it goes straight through the jamb and into the studs. Also if you change out the screws on your door hinges with 3"screws, your doors will be much more secure against forced entry. Good luck my friend!

    How do I know what size door closer to get?

    My old mount pulled out of the jamb, is it ok to mount the brace a little further than 1/4" in order to avoid the old holes that the screws pulled out of?

    • @TheHonestCarpenter
      @TheHonestCarpenter  2 роки тому +1

      I’d just fill those old holes with wood glue and gold tees cut flush!

    Is there any point to adding a storm door chain if you already have the closer on the top of the storm door?

    • @timothyodum4994
      @timothyodum4994 3 роки тому +1

      It depends on if your door/area is exposed to high winds. I've seen storm doors ripped off even with chains. Did keep it from blowing into other people's yards. I'm sure if you simply keep adding more and more chains it would be a good sight to see.
