  • In this episode of the NC Miata track build series, I will be showing how to replace the valve cover gasket on all NC Miata models. Mine was failed, determined by oily spark plugs found in the last episode. So this time around, we're getting the engine sorted out and track ready!

About to take on this job. This well orchestrated video gave me all the confidence I need to knock it out in a hour or two. I’m a visual learner and if I see it I can do it. Appreciate the insight at the beginning and end of the video but no bs during the whole process.

I’m glad you found this useful. It’s plenty doable, just take your time and be careful with the metal bracket on the backside of the engine (closest to cabin) as it’s easy to drop a bolt and there isn’t much room there. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Great video! I'll be doing mine soon so it's a lifesaver. Quick question : how long did You wait for the gasket maker before You put the vakve cover back on?

Thank you and good luck! I waited about 90 minutes for it using the Right Stuff gasket maker which recommended that set time. If you use a different gasket maker it should specify the set time on the back directions section of the bottle.

Do you consider using polyurethane bushings?

Certainly something that might be worth doing if the stock ones are as soft as I suspect. Probably something I want to evaluate on track first. Thanks for watching

At 1:02, what is that sensor called? Mine is leaking.

It’s actually the Variable Valve Timing Solenoid. My solution to any leakage is in the video at 6:02

I think it was a deep well socket to get enough depth over the stud. I’m only 90% sure though because my hands are in the way lol
