Everyone does the maze, so I tried my own approach. No doors, no wall maze. I created a raised section that the AI's have to path over to get in. That puts them up in a place where my archers on the inside can shoot them. This is no problem for the transit so far. The trick is that I created a 'elbow' i the raised section as it snakes pas the archers. As the NPC moved through the elbow they are hit hard by the archers and decide to switch target to go attack the archer. So the reverse course and run back to the original stars and run across the ground to get to the archer. the realize that the archer has no path, and turn around back up to the raised section. I suggest a wall behind the raised section as you can more easily shoot gas arrows in to it. I think if I perfected this approach I could solo the purges with no doors, no 'maze' and no thralls just by gassing them all down.
If you put the palisades close enough to the wall to channel the purge through them, they will stack bleed damage, but each time it puts bleed, the palisades will take damage and on a large purge they can throw themselves on the palisades so much they get destroyed. I find an effective measure is to put a regular siege cauldron at your first door and put a thrall on it. It applies a slow effect, and then stack noxious arrows and wear them down. A thrall on a siege cauldron is smart enough to only do a pour when the current pour has worn off and there are enemies in the area of the new pour.
On the pve server im on we built a purge wall in the volcano near the well os skellos. Theres a spot in lava just bug enough for the camp to spawn if you can convince game they can get to it. Its not perfect the high end enemies will get to your wall but the chaff cannot make it...demolishes also cant get past. We use two thralls to get the excapes...hardest part is we then also have to deal with the lava🤣
On single player/admin, I have done about 10 test purges. All level 3 or lower. I had about a 50/50 for a barkeep. For the purge base, I used golems which were more useful and a sacrifice I'm willing to make verses a level 20 fighter thralls. The brimstone and tar golems were very nice for adding DOT. I had archers on pillers with gas and star metal arrows. I had a simple maze 4 turns with two doors. In the coffer room, I had 3 crystalline golems. This worked for me. I agree with you, the higher level purges are not worth the loss of thralls, building materials etc. The caged NPCs are mostly crap. The old purge system was better for farming thralls on the Exiled lands.
For anyone wanting to level a bunch of Thralls quickly for this you can kill the last boss of al-Merayah and it will get them to lvl 20 instantly (55 if you have higher Thrall level mods)
And don't assume you have to meander through all the doors like 100% of the pve siege video's i've seen. Just use sorcery to fly to the top and go through a single wall... like an actual pvp'er would. It's much faster and simpler. 1 battering RAM, plus a few explosions maybe and you're through a wall. simple
As usual you know the exact right video to make at the exact right time thank you. Really too bad about all the bugs in the new release. Funcom gonna Funcom I guess...
For the first time ever on Conan, I was running sideways during a fight with a mob, I can see how this could turn into a bit of a problem, this update to combat is not working correctly and if so.........Lol.
I set the attack distance and chase distance to the lowest setting for any melee thralls in the purge. For archers behind a fence or crenelated wall I use a Low Attack distance and lowest chase distance. I lost a lot of golems, zombies etc from charging into the enemy camp but this seemed to cut down on that.
Threat level Is and IIs can spawn barkeeps about 30 to 40% of the time. Just look for the chatty person, not cowering, locked up in the cage that is not the mercenary vendor.
2 Connecting killing pits seems to work a treat with tier 2 buildings. archers on top of the walls. The Dusty Dozen coped quite easily with a Lvl 10. and cheap to construct too 👍
I have an idea, but I've never played the new purge mechanic. Instead of everyone outside of your base, what it you built a large courtyard at your entrance and stationed all your guys there? It may prevent your thalls spreading out and getting isolated. You could flank the courtyard with archer towers that would have a clear shot on people approaching your base and also anyone in the courtyard. Like i said i don't have much experience with purges so there maybe a perfectly good reason why this suggestion may not work.
no this is a great example of something that would work! i just found the archers a tad annoying. but could get a bunch of zombies up and do the courtyard thing.
You could add Rhinos instead of camels and they have about 50-600ish armor on them with 20K+ health once levelled up to 20. but never the less it is an awesome demonstration Illibet!
Nice to know they've made the purge a gimmick. I could see doing it with all your trash thralls and beasts once in awhile just to clean up the base while you try to get greater versions. Other then that times better spent running dungeons it seems.
since chapter 3 released..all the enemies are moonwalking and sliding (turning on a dime as well)... it makes the combat a joke now. The game is showing too many unfixed bugs at this point.
oh, no. we never bother doing this!! thats why i did it. to show how worthless high lvl purges are. best off doing a tier 3 with a few golems or zombies if you want a barkeeper
Fascinating video as always! 'Not going to listen to pvper's' is right, but you could extend it to 'Not going to listen full stop'. How many times does this company get to roll out a broken update, have they had a single bug free update since they started this battlepass/shop rubbish? Also I cannot believe they took the old purge system, which was buggy don;t get me wrong but at least it was interesting, and varied, what is Funcom thinking?
Lots of my viewers play official and without mods. I also explain that this is not effort, you can get a barkeep from low level purge. The point of the video was that even a level x purge won't get your stuff if you build a tiny effortless maze out the front.
How many thralls would you suggest we have to start a level 3 and have none of them die? (since we're taking the time to level and gear them, and build a decent looking base cause thrall limits and server rules prevent multiple bases in many cases)
You can get barkeeps on level 1 purges. there's no need to do anything higher. and level 1 purge doesn't requiring anywhere near that prep. you can do it solo with no building and no thralls.
@@philtayler6455Level 3 purge you can do without any thralls in combat, and so no losses. Have cauldron dropping oil/fire at the gates. And use poison arrows to just kill everything. Simplest reliable method.
We did a level 3 purge no barkeep, a level 5 no barkeep and two level 10 purges no barkeep there is a lot of RNG. All on an official server. I guess just keep running lower level ones and eventually we will get one.
We got barkeep's on several level 1 purges. So you can get them on any level. Might as well do the easiest purge repeatedly till you get it if the barkeep is your goal.
Your wrong about a bunch of things here. Try doing some purges NOT in creative mode and just play, you might learn differently. I've done teir 10 purges with only using poison arrows, so poison is definitely useful. As are palisades and other tools if used correctly with AI pathing. The camels really don't help, they are more a hindrance than help, and certainly not worth leveling up just for a purge. Leveling cimmerian berserkers is probably not worth the wasted time, they level poorly and slowly. You're better off leveling other faster thralls that benefit more from leveling (like the named guys you see near noob river). Thralls on Cauldrons is very effective, and cheap also. Spears/bow thralls on slightly raised foundations along the AI pathing is also effective, and lets you fight in the feild and not worry about demolishers at the doors. This was a cluster fluck of a purge TBH, i'm not surprised it didn't go well. Keep at it, you'll figure it out. Can be done with zero losses.
Fun facts- I actually have close to 8k hours on official PVP and around 10k in the game in general. I'm only in creative because its easier for videos. never played single player till I started UA-cam. and I also dont ever watch guide videos, I share either stuff iv figured out myself, or someone iv played with or raided, has shown me. (TBH its probably why I suck at making guides lol). I actually won with very little effort and mention that you can do it other ways with other types of thralls, so not sure what your on about 'not being surprised it was a cluster fuck'. Sure wasnt pretty to look at but, ok.... its called an 'example'. The whole point was the purge is stupid and you dont ever need to put in effort with this game. Dont waste your time with a tier x ever!! Thanks for watching
@@illibetgaming Yea, i picked up that you know a lot about the game. I assumed you had many hours in conan exiles. I didn't really take it as a guide, but you stated poison is useless and other things. Seems to me with your 1000's of hours you may have missed a few things. Because those things can be very effective. I have and continue to run level 10 purges with NO losses reliably. There are many ways to do it. It appeared to be a cluster fuck from my POV. :) If that was my purge, I'd be re-thinking my process, as that is not sustainable. You also fairly strongly said the rewards being 'not worth it'. For a player following the vid to learn about how to do a purge, they don't have creative mode to instant level thralls, instant level 20 camels, fly around moving thralls from miles away to the thick of combat with no agro cause they're cloaked, etc. You ran a purge in creative mode, which is entirely different from doing it in survival. Your representation of a purge is false, next time, run it in survival IMHO.
Nice heads up. I've farmed that purge 4 times yesterday just to get a bar keep, and each time I could not get them out of the cage . The bar keep was there, but it read cage empty when I tried to open it. ( siptah )

Yeah decided long ago that anything over lvl 7 is a net loss. You don’t get anything close to the value of four or five lvl 20 Thralls.

A slight bonus to higher tier purges, is getting better thralls visiting your tavern.

did sword of crom get updated to where thralls can actually do damage with it again?

Try deconstructing walls at the purge castle instead of knocking down the doors. Maybe it was because I was in admin but still strange.
So we do all this to just get a barkeep? Just the loss of the time invested in leveling thralls would not make it worth the effort.
