Yes, for proper results, adding oil, would make it work MUCH better. That being said, I wanted to show how this works without adding oil for those people like myself that do not want to add in any extra oils.

Hey John, just tried making nut butter for the first time. I tried cashews and it took three grinds to get a very smooth and creamy consistency. Surpringsly this generated a lot of heat, probably close to 100 degrees, still as someone who may have many oral surgeries in the future this machine will help me get a ton of high quality calories, when chewing because impossible.

Hi John. U didn't soak either the almonds or walnuts beforehand did u? Dehydrating them after soaking (instead of roasting them) would probably make a great nut butter! Also, if people r not averse to adding a sweetener to their nut butters, stirring a little agave syrup, honey or maple syrup will produce a smoother, creamier consistency more similar to those bought in jars.

    1. Almonds were roasted, it brings out the oil
    2. The champion tends to "grind and heat" when making nut butter so it sticks together better due to the heat.
I agree raw almonds thru the 8006 does not make a "butter". When they say "nut butter" in advertising, I think they mean (or should mean) peanut butter. They are not into raw foods :)

Yes, grinding nuts will better their digestion.

@rawfoods I totally agree that the less of those sweeteners added the better. That's why I said "IF they are not averse to such!" Isn't it you who always says, "Good, better, best?" :-) I was simply providing a bridge to "best" for those who would like to TRANSITION from the awful commercial jar brands and don't want to make the quantum leap to "best" just yet! ;-)

Gosh John, didnt know you had another channel.
Thanks for sharing this vid. I have the 8003, and got it for all the functions it does, esp wheatgrass juicing.

Yes, the 8003 is just like the 8006.

I purposely do not show adding a "thickening" agent, such as honey, agave or maple syrup to make the nuts stick together. Of course, if you added one of those, it would stick, but you would not have a pure nut butter. Im not a fan of agave. It contains a high percentage of isolated fructose, as much or more than high fructose corn syrup, and we know that is not good for us. If anything, I would rather use honey, but that being said, dates would be my favorite thicking agent.

@tiatdivad The Omegas will NOT make butters like the store-bought brands. At best they can create 'meals' e.g. almond meal. Very little oil is extracted from the (raw) almonds.
While this was somewhat disappointing to figure out I'm still OK with my Omega as my main purpose is veg juicing - which it totally excels at.

Agreed, I agree. I strive to teach people "the best" and hopefully they have something to strive for. Im not a big fan of nut butters. They can sabotage a raw diet by adding too much fat.. and nuts are not well digested for some people..

I will put that on the "to do" list. A better alternative, is get a "spiral slicer" see my videos on the spiral slicer. You can make "pasta" style noodles out of zuchinni. No need to make a batter, extrude and then cook, if you were making pasta in the 8006.

  • @discountjuicers
    @discountjuicers  12 років тому

No. If you soak you will have water-logged nuts, and it will be a "paste" not a butter in my opinion. In addition if you soak and have wet nuts then the mixture must be used within a few days or it will spoil. If you want to soak and then dehydrate your nuts, you could do that, and that would make a sprouted nut butter..

Yes, you can soak and then dehydrate, and it will work "a little" better. but still not like roasted nuts. Yes, they could add a liquid sweeter, but then you wouldnt have a true nut butter.

@tiatdivad If you look at the ingredients on a commercial nut butter you'll see that they add oil.
