- He must be mad. He said so himself.
Roger Waters is releasing Dark Side of the Moon Redux; His re-imagining of the classic, multi-platinum prog rock masterpiece Dark Side of the Moon!
Check out a Wild Child's honest review of Redux, the reimagining nobody was expecting.
" Its my project and I wrote it, lets get rid of all this 'we' crap."
There he said it.
Roger Waters is a mediocre lyricist, who's contrived melodramatic themes are cringy.
There I said it.
And I'll add, the only reason DSOTM is so memorable is because of Gilmour's soaring guitar, Wrigths imaginative synth and keyboards and Masons driving rhythm, all brought together to give life to Waters words. The music created would give life to any song, imagine if you took the music from DSOTM and replaced it with lyrics from any 70s soppy sad song and it would still hold up.
And the other way around, the lyrics without the rest of the band? You would have Redux, which proves my point. I rest my case.
Waters didn't only write the lyrics, he wrote or co-wrote the music of all tracks on it except Any Colour you Like.... as it is plainly stated on musical sheets and more deeply explained in the Dark Side of the Moon Classic Album documentary... He also provided the demo of Time... which they reworked in studio after... Gilmour worked mostly on the embellishing and melodic aspects of the songs... IT was a team work, but Waters is obviously much more important to the music than you give him credit for...
His ego has destroyed the best album in the history of music, this garbage will never sell
For a re-imaging of DSOTM I prefer "Dub Side of the Moon"....
Agreed - that is a TERIFFIC version!
Yep...a great listen! The Flaming Lips also do a great version of the whole album!
@@kevdmiller i shall have to check that out, thanks for the recommendation!
thank you for this will not purchase
No problems, mate :)
I will, however, stream it for a full review when it comes out
The Money re release was utterly awful, sounded like Tom Waits doing a Vincent Price impersonation.
Time is not as bad but still pretty ordinary, no dynamics... The alchemy that was Pink Floyd is not repeatable.
This is horrible
I mean it certainly wasn't what i was expecting... but, then again, it wouldn't be prog if it was normal!
@@wildwildsouthwestchild I really am not a fan of spoken word music, even dislike rap mostly. I think he took much of what was good about "Money" and really took it away. A huge part of the song is not just the message but the feeling you get from listening to the instrumentation. I really like the original, so it had much to live up to. So maybe, I am at fault for disliking it. Maybe I am too conservative, but my opinion has not changed after a second listen.
@@kevinobrien1897 I think you've hit the nail on the head there, mate - good music makes you listen, but great music makes you feel. If anything, I believe that Roger has removed the very feeling that made the song Money... well... the great song that was Money!
@@wildwildsouthwestchild a very eloquent response
Roger thinks he is Pink Floyd.
You're right, that is not hyperbole, he really does. I was excited for a re-imagining, honestly. Sadly, he's removed so much 'Pink Floyd' from a legendary Pink Floyd track that it proves that he was perhaps not the most important - or indeed sole - contributor after all.
Truly: Which one's Pink?
Well he is more pink floyd than you nobodys on the internet. And yes he was the most important one in the band. After all he was the leader
He definitely was the driver of that group
I've only heard his new version of 'Money' and I really like it.
I'm a big fan of the original album version also, and I don't think this new version is meant to replace it.
It sits side by side with it, and adds to the overall offering.
It's clear ol' Rog has lost his mind.
Toys in the attic? Truly gone fishing? Over the rainbow? :p
There was a Pink Floyd box set of DSOTM that actually came with a bag of marbles. Waters Redux box set will not contain marbles as he has lost all of his.
@@ndogg20 oh that's good 🤣🤣🤣
How
It's not meant to be the same as the original, thats the point. Roger has explained why he wanted to express this in a different way. Obviously nobody is listening, that is what is wrong with the world today. I love it because I love music that has relevance and real emotion. Roger didn't intend for the redux to be better OR worse than DSOTM,he just wanted to do something different with it, so if you don't like it don't buy it and get off his back, afterall you all know that he is a musical genius who deserves nothing but respect.
Yeah he's clearly going off in very different directions and there's nothing wrong with that. We are all free to love, hate, or MEH. It doesn't effect our love of the original, but it is an interesting diversion.
Yeah, well when other people are fucking your wife, remember they are not just doing it better OR worse, just something she wanted to do different with it.
He's free to do what ever he likes, reality is though, if this was the original, none of us would have heard of it.
you are right, the money guitar solo is....godly. back then in the 70s when I was listening to it for the first times it was the best I ever heard and actually, it still is. it is the perfect solo, aggressive, bold, crazy, one of David's best. in the 70ies, it was even more astonishing than nowadays.
Have you heard the live version from Pulse? Someone call Nigel Tufnel, cos David turned THAT solo up to 11!
I don’t get the complaining from people…THIS IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE LAST SO CALLED PINK FLOYD ALBUM and this album isn’t meant to copy the original I like the spoken word aspect of this album very moving
'Arguably' ? Who can make an argument to support the notion that Dark Side of the Moon is NOT 'one of the most popular and influential rock albums ever releaed' ? It is not arguable, is it.?
Wahhh wahhh all u roger haters make me laugh
I certainly do not hate Roger Waters and would place him as one of the finest lyricists in the modern era. My problem with him is he saw himself as being the singular driving force behind Pink Floyd and created a toxic environment for the rest of the band. Even if we leave aside his relationship with Dave Gilmour, which was dismal to say the least, his attitude to Richard Wright was responsible for the guy leaving the band. Yes the same guy who composed The Great Gig in the Sky along with Clare Torry a wonderful musical extravaganza. No wonder they were probably delighted when he left.
Rogers idea of a new version of Money at the end of the day is simply a de-Gilmourisation of the original. There is no guitar solo and the vocals are shit. I don’t know what his motive for this remake is, but for me it only reinforces Dave’s contribution to the original which was massive.
Was never an amazing singer .......... well he's nice to see he's at least still got that......
Imagine if in 50 years you hadn't listen to anything new, and your taste and ideas had not changed a bit, and your body had not aged a day and your mind had not changed a bit. Then you would make no changes to your concept of 50 years ago
Now imagine you have been alive and doing different things, seeing different things during 50 years. Then you would see your creation with different eyes, wouldn't you?
Have you listen to his CD "the lockdown sessions"? You would understand this better if you do
Indeed did he wants to make us laugh?
Every dog has its day. Or every dog gets a bone eventually. Or its a dog's life short and sweet. Why do dogs put their nose where they do? But what they say about man's best friend he won't eat your corpse like a cat.
Easily the deepest thing I've read today
I could live without close ups of the dog's toungue. What does a sumo wrestler have to do with money? Roger is avoiding a lawsuit by not having the sax and guitar solos.
One of my favourite things about pink Floyd is the incredible visuals!
The dog tongue was... unexpected... maybe it will make more sense when the full album comes out?
i like your studio
Thank you, I like your comment :)
2:35 IMHO Amused to death is better than some Waters era Pink Floyd albums. Only Dark Side and Wish You Were Here beats it.
