The way Riot is handeling custom skins and custom map skins feels like the polar opposite of Valve. Vanguard security will basically kill alot of these creative works, a spit in the face to the more creative side of the community. Meanwhile, you got Valve that embraced community made content and made it so that it could be used in game. I mean just look at the cosmetics for TF2 and Dota 2. These types of community content is one of the things that helps to keep the games alive and the communities growing.
I don't think the "privacy" aspect is the most important aspect about Vanguard, but more people should talk about the possible security vulnerabilities about it, and what it truly means to install something like Vanguard on your PC. I do agree, it works really well as an anti-cheat, but in simple terms it's nothing short of a root-kit on your computer, and I hate how easily people disregards this. Every single software out there has security vulnerabilities and so does Vanguard. It only takes 1 person to figure out how to break it and only God knows the consequences to that. It has nothing to do with what Vanguard collects or does, it's about what they can collect and what the program can do, and Vanguard is essentially a master key to your computer which makes the situation even worse. There's no guarantee that they're not collecting everything they can and giving it to Tencent, just like there's no guarantee that they are completely down-to-earth and honest about what they are doing. Remember that those that actually developed Vanguard probably has no say in public relations between Riot and their customers, which means that all the technical information regarding how Vanguard works probably went through multiple channels before getting posted. By installing Vanguard, you're installing a program with root-level access that nobody, except a handful of people over at Riot, knows how it works or what it does. There's some technicalities that make Vanguard far worse than something like EasyAntiCheat or BattleEye, but all of those are also just as dumb to install in my opinion. I don't understand how the Valorant community was so accepting of this given how many people talked about Vanguard at the start. It's so weird how people willingly install what essentially amounts to spyware, or malware at best, on their computers.
The saddest part is that Riot probably has to commit to not allowing a single third party software to tamper with League's files because if custom skins are allowed, that's a loophole cheaters can and will exploit but I'm really hoping Riot finds a way to make custom skins still useable.
Due to my line of work i cant even have vanguard on my pc or anything like that on any personal device. so thisll be the end of the league journey for me, was fun yall
#savecustomskins I don't hate the vanguard idea, it's really great, and will stop a ton of scripters. But you can't just see the good things and ignore the bad ones, custom skins are amazing and so much hard work from so many amazing people, please Riot, you have to fix this.
Riot wont save custom skins since those custom skins wont earn Riot Games any money, and will instead make players not want to buy skins since they can already get them for free. And if people chooses to boycut League... well they were already doing that by using custom skins in the first place... I could be wrong, im just thinking with a corpo mind. But it is sad that peoples hobbies will be "deleted".
You cannot get skins made by Riot for free through custom skins, this means a direct ban to your account. The only thing the custom skins do is chromas for the skins you already bought, putting shoes on the Briar skins or bringing SpongeBob to the base skin of a champion. It is completely illegal to use skins made by Riot for free and the mod community itself tells you so. Also to say that the only places where you can get such things fill your PC with viruses and the subsequent ban.
I'm pretty sure the only reason they don't allow custom skins, is to prevent people from modding in the skins they want outright, bypassing purchasing them.
I still find weird that they came from a highly moddable game and still haven't made a tool for players to make their own game modes like Overwatch or Dota2.
Riot's only source of income is the skins that they keep selling us. From this perspective, Riot doesn't want people using custom skins in any capacity. Why would players be willing to spend money on authentic skins if everyone can easily download and use a custom skin? Riot will NEVER make the workshop a thing. Additionally, if my reasoning is correct, they will also never allow any players to use custom skins, even if it only affects the visual experience of a single person. This was hard to enforce beforehand, but now with Vanguard, Riot can easily enforce this rule. And to be fair, only a tiny tiny percentage of the playerbase used any custom skins. So yeah, the overwhelming majority of ppl will be unaffected in this regard.
Vanguard works by continuously monitoring file hashes and program state of all running apps (yes, ALL running apps you see in task manager) to ensure no software tampers with the game’s process. Theoretically, this could (and has in the past) include video drivers with custom patches and other virtual drivers that Vanguard flags. Again, all of this is possible only because Vanguard runs at the kernel level and can access any process.
0:49 Excuse me sir Its been less than a minute and you are already showing alarming signs of unwatched raw BASED facts There are viewers that ain't ready for such conversations So thank you
im not really against the anticheat, theres definitely a better way of going about having it CONSTANTLY RUNNING and potentially affecting performance in other games, as well as the security risk if bad actors exploit it.
I have nothing against Vanguard, as i really dislike the concept of cheating in games, it ruins everyone's fun and it isn't enjoyable to play against someone who is giving themselfes an unfair advantage. However, riot needs to also think about the many people who are using like mentioned, custom skins. I don't use custom skins personally, but seeing so much creativity in the league community by these custom skin makers is truly heartwarming to see, that they would provide something for free with their amazing skills. I hope this video and many other people who are speaking up about this, reaches riot.
Now lets be honest If there is one thing that Riot loves, Is money and if there is one thing that makes Riot earn less money, they will remove it. Custom skins in my opinion makes Riot earn less money regardless of the content and what the community wanted. Unlucky
Honestly backwards. There's alotta custom skins out there that go off already existing skins, requiring you to purchase said skin. I've bought quite alot of skins cause of it xD. There are custom skins on vanilla skins aswell but, quite a bunch out there on store ones.
well my main worry is that vanguard with league might lead a major security vulnerability due to league spaghetti and despite valorant being built with this anti cheat in mind cheating still happens and there are still ways to by pass kernel level anti cheats
even beyond the custom skins, many disabled players use mods for subtitling, colorblind modes, visual clarity, and other accessibility features. a significant portion of players will have to stop playing or play at a severe disadvantage. if riot goes through with adding vanguard, they need to also immediately commit to improving the accessibility of the game.
I Want to inform you that at 3:03 you are wrong dota was not a mod but What is called a custom game. Difference between a mod and a custom game is that the mod changes the core mechanics or visual off a game where as a custom game is build in the base game. Custom game developer Can do this because blizzard gave Them a engine where you could create units and changes the units. If you Want to really see the difference then check starcraft 2 out. That game also as custom games but also mods with Grants mod manager that allows changes to the campaign insted off making your own map and stuff.
As sad as it is, i doubt that Riot gives two flying fucks about anyone it affects with this, in fact, im pretty sure the must feel pretty proud about it all

There are viewers that ain't ready for such conversations
So thank you
im not really against the anticheat, theres definitely a better way of going about having it CONSTANTLY RUNNING and potentially affecting performance in other games, as well as the security risk if bad actors exploit it.
Please riot, one of your augment in TFT are remember your roots!
Hell even TFT came from mod that came from Dota also, so please consider ROTI
They want to take away my Bunny Suit Akali :(
No more KDA gragas 😭
i dont think ppl creating custom skins will be stopped. They can make private servers of league like MMORPG games like wow, lineage 2 etc...
Garena is a good example right?
Poro Ornn = POrnn 💀😂
RedriotRoss and uberdanger don't play league anymore, but I get it.
Why would anybody make a mod to change the games language to wing ding lol
Lets #SaveCustomSkins Guys!
what if riot make their own costume skin server
The whole system is FUCKED beyond just that.
Vanguard brings more problems than solves
Dumbs do you know about the AMA on the league subreddit on the coming tuesday
This video makes me regret not downoading custom skins
Dantes will be mised
Riot: 🫵🤣
Now lets be honest
If there is one thing that Riot loves, Is money
and if there is one thing that makes Riot earn less money, they will remove it.
Custom skins in my opinion makes Riot earn less money regardless of the content and what the community wanted.
Unlucky
Honestly backwards. There's alotta custom skins out there that go off already existing skins, requiring you to purchase said skin. I've bought quite alot of skins cause of it xD. There are custom skins on vanilla skins aswell but, quite a bunch out there on store ones.
well my main worry is that vanguard with league might lead a major security vulnerability due to league spaghetti
and despite valorant being built with this anti cheat in mind cheating still happens
and there are still ways to by pass kernel level anti cheats
cheaters managed to get around vanguard in 4 days after it's release... so yeah
It was fun while it lasted
Do you think you can save it via using DMA card/hardware?
killerskins died, a lot of skins died along it.
please riot #savecustomskins
riot hates creative content
We need the postal dudes 👌🤑
Thank you for making this video.
even beyond the custom skins, many disabled players use mods for subtitling, colorblind modes, visual clarity, and other accessibility features. a significant portion of players will have to stop playing or play at a severe disadvantage. if riot goes through with adding vanguard, they need to also immediately commit to improving the accessibility of the game.
they should let people use custom skins in normal and aram games and not ranks
I really thought this would get more views because many modders were sharing it, but 50k sigh.
Im accepting that this affects like 0.01% of palyers.
wouldn't vainguard also affect programs such as porofessor etc?
i dont see a point for that video, riot is not about passion, its abiut making money, they dont care about community
2:38 ARGENTINA MI PAIS SIEMPRE PAPAA
I Want to inform you that at 3:03 you are wrong dota was not a mod but What is called a custom game. Difference between a mod and a custom game is that the mod changes the core mechanics or visual off a game where as a custom game is build in the base game. Custom game developer Can do this because blizzard gave Them a engine where you could create units and changes the units.
If you Want to really see the difference then check starcraft 2 out. That game also as custom games but also mods with Grants mod manager that allows changes to the campaign insted off making your own map and stuff.
NOOOO MY FUTA NIGHTBRINGER SORAKA :C
I mean it's a double adge sword as it has happen in many games where dome texure mode act like cheats.
As sad as it is, i doubt that Riot gives two flying fucks about anyone it affects with this, in fact, im pretty sure the must feel pretty proud about it all
