MX5 NA Miata - How to replace your alarm horn and make a alarm unit bracket

  • A couple of months back I made a video on how to make an air intake and heat shield. I had to make some room in the engine bay for that project and my alarm horn was in the way so I temporary placed it in the back of the engine bay. In this video I'm not only going to relocate the alarm horn to its final position, but I'm also going to replace it. Furthermore I will make a mounting bracket for the alarm unit to secure it into place behind the dashboard.

    Thanks for the info, I think I'll do something similar on my '93 LE.

    I really like your style of modding. Subtle, OEM like quality and so damn clean! The door bushings from your shop are doing great in my car btw! I have no idea about chassis flex, but the door rattle has been reduced dramatically to the point where I am considering running the OEM tonneau cover when driving open top because the rattle of the top is now by far the loudest noise when driving calmly on bad roads.

    Another great video, thanks man :)
    I really like how you keep your car looking super clean while staying somewhat OEM... lots of Miatas I see on the road are riced out, stickerbombed and generally not well kept. Not hating on them, just saying I prefer your look better.

    What kind of alarm horn did you use?

    MiataMods is back 😎
    Can I ask you what is that thing installed on the battery that you are using to "turn it off or on"?

      Yes, it would be nice to show us the battery main switch. Verry usefull for miata drivers ;-)

      It's a kill switch and when I bought the car it was already installed. Its pretty simple; it opens and closes the negative electrical circuit. If you google 'install car kill switch' you will find what you need.

    How ironic... After spending most of the day removing a non-functioning aftermarket alarm system from my '95 Miata, I find this video just posted! Great video and outstanding fabrication! :-)

    • @MiataMods

      Hahaha well the alarm can be a pain in the ass so sometimes removing it is the better option

    Great video! I have a kill switch on mine, but no alarm or remote door locks. I'm not sure if I'll add an alarm, but I do like remote door locks...maybe I'll find something in the aftermarket for that. Thanks for sharing!

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 років тому +1

      Thanks! I saw a lot of simple remote door lock kits on ebay. If I would not have an alarm, I would install something like that. It’s really convenient 👍

      I’ve seen Miata with power locks and everyone who has done the mod has done so much time fixing it instead of enjoying it.

      I live in a big city so having an alarm feels a bit safer.. and I love the central door locking system.. so handy!

      MiataMods so do I so although mine is parked on the road an alarm would feel a lot safer! And I need central locking mate it’s stressful not having it 👊🏻😂

    Hoe lang kan een MX-5 bestuurder zijn? Hoeveel ruimte heb jij met je deepdish snapoff? (en hoe lang ben je :D ) En zijn er naast foamectomy en stuurwijzigingen nog andere "tall-guy-mods"?

    • @ivoreekers6655
      @ivoreekers6655 6 років тому +1

      Thijs van Welie ik ben bijna 190 zit met mn hoofd tegen t dak. Door t stuur verder naar je toe te halen krijgen je benen meer ruimte. Check ff de vid van miatamods over stuur wisselen.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 років тому

      Ik ben 194 cm. Door de quick release + deep dish combinatie kan ik een stuk meer 'onderuit' zitten in mijn stoel waardoor mijn hoofd een stuk lager zit. Door de foamectomy zit ik ook lager en dieper in mijn stoel. Dat zijn naar mijn mening de twee beste 'tall-guy mods'. Wat je ook nog kan doen zijn je armsteunen bij je deuren weghalen, het pedaal links van je koppelingspedaal aanpassen/verwijderen en... een hardtop monteren :-)

    Yey First! :D Well i Checked my Car on the windows there it says" Alarm Secured" but in the engine bay there is no Alarm stuff. Well i even kicked the car no alarm xD. Still waiting on the Radiator replacement video :3

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 років тому

      A lot of MX5/Miata drivers do not like the alarm so there is a good change the previous owner removed it. I would suggest removing the glove box and check behind the dash. If you can't find an alarm there, your car doesn't have one. Radiator replacement video will be uploaded eventually but I'm now working on some other projects, such as a DIY hardtop stand :-)
