Too bad we don't live in a world where someone like Frank Miller, Garth Ennis, Chuck Dixon or Larry Hama provided the scripts for Sean to draw. I'd even take Zack as the writer 😆 Then we'd have some classic, energetic, action packed stuff. Unfortunately, the mainstream writers are simultaneously pretentious, self consciously silly and just generally moronic. I won't even get into drawing the woman with a hard face and the man as a pretty boy.
I feel like I should've refunded my order for Sean's Zorro book, I expected it was going to be bad, but holy fuck, this is a CW/Crackle TV pitch. At the same time though, I'm committed to keeping the purchase just to look at it as a "what not to do" with story writing. I feel like I learned more from Mucha Lucha and El Tigre on Mexican culture than Sean Gordon Murphy ever bothered to research. The disrespect to the Zorro IP is just shameless.
@@DavidSilva-mn4dz Yes they were, but it's entertainment mainly meant for children, it taught me quite a bit and helped me win over some Mexican friends. Sean Gordon Murphy could've watched some for research.
We don't come here for the poorly-performing comic book reviews, we come here for you & your acid reflux, or whatever else you're afflicted by on any given week (STOP EATING JUNK FOOD). And I say that as someone who detests when some rando in the comments claims to speak for me & everyone else about what "we" want. That being said, I feel like you predicted this months ago when the run started, and you were not wrong.
Imagine having a known name and the freedom to do whatever you want, and choosing instead to conform to all of the cringiest, worn-out, PC tropes of the last 10 years. He's such a good artist but man... he seems timid. A real writer would've gone out of his way to piss off the scolds with Zorro. It would be so much fun.
I would be vastly more interested in this comic if it was just a shot-for-shot remake of the Antonio Banderas movie, just as drawn by Sean Murphy. Instead, I am just very sad and very tired.
Remember when Perch and Joe Corallo created City of Bruce, also based on the work of Sean Gordon Murphy? Well, now we can have City of Zorro. It's a nameless Mexican village, where everyone is Zorro, and everyone knows they are Zorro, but nobody knows who all the other Zorros are. And they have to find out who all the other Zorros are, but something thwarts them at every turn.
I strangely agree. It wasn’t my favorite thing he’s done. It wasn’t his best. It’s hard to describe but you said it … it’s so bad it’s good. To me it seems like Murphy was trying to make a low budget Mexican action film. Like something Robert Rodriguez would make .
You know, I love the character Zorro. Have since I was a boy. I was kinda secretly hoping SGM's Zorro would turn out decent. Sure, I knew it wouldn't happen, but he did make White Knight after all, right? He's got a history of making decent stuff. Such a shame.
I'd be mortified if I weren't depressingly used to "creatives" completely ruining the franchises that defined my childhood. At least I still have Dr. Who...shit...
Hey, if you don't like the Zorro comics, you can always write your own. I mean, you can't, but if you still think we'll be able to write Batman comics in ten years, you should think that you can do Zorro now.
i'm glad i started watching you again. this new punished zach era that has clearly been from the wear and tear of covering this stuff is awesome. glad your publishing has worked out and i still have the jawbreakers doc from all those years ago when you released it.
Okay, I can’t take the story seriously but man, I fuck with SGM’s art, totally! Sad case of hubris, the guy should just stick to pencilling and inking and leave the writing to grown ups, if there’s any left in this husk of an industry! I’ve seen a few interviews with guy and MAN, sure he is good, but full on he knows it, regards himself as something of a genius I reckon, even though his style is totally derivative of both generations of the Zaffinos!
After plot holes I was very skeptical of Zorro. It's strange to say that it feels like SGM doesn't take his work seriously. This isn't his best in terms of art either.
Another thing that bugged me . I’m Mexican and the use of “white guy spanish” for something released by a wanna be big publishers I am honestly surprised they didn’t know anyone who was from Mexico to give the dialogue a realistic feel. Instead it feels like I’m watching white ppls version of Spanish . The use of Spanglish isn’t even used correctly. I don’t fault Sean for not doing it during the creator stage because creators don’t normally think about this stuff until editing … which the publisher should have caught
It may not be popular but these are the videos I miss. I can hear the tiny pepsi's and background AC turning on and I'm just waiting for the rip or demeaning book cover pat.
after a certain point punching someone harder doesn't do that much more damage to them, it just injures your own hand. remember the bones of your hand are of the smallest bones in your body, (the only bones that are smaller are in your foot). the skull is quite large and solid. punch to transfer force, not to produce force.
First off. why does the girl look like a non passing trans woman? That is such a strong jaw line. Now I dont actually know enough about zorro to really comment on the story. but with a simple google search I think I can get caught up.also zorro is public domain. The reason I say that is because I think I could do a better job than this. I am not much of an artist unfortunately. But between this and the modern day retelling of robyn hood. It gives me hope as someone who wants to be a writer. Hell I kind of want to do something with both of those Ideas just to bloody prove it. Not sure what just yet. but i will think of something. Hell 50 shades started out as a fan fiction so I guess there is hope. I’ll write a novel
Well. Sadly I have all 4 of these books and haven't been able to read them yet. But these reviews give me very little hope of them being any good. At least the art will be cool?
come on most ideas are good ideas till you put them on paper, hell sometimes I love the sound of something so much I wont even watch it. to this day I still have no idea what fringe is about but I like the concept
If this comic was a movie, George Lopez would be all over it. “I’m Mexican” has been the punchline of every joke he’s told for the last 20 years
Not true. At least half of George Lopez's jokes are something like "I got a big head! Orale, wacha!"
The village pulled a 3 amigos..
This is what happens when SGM falls asleep with The Three Amigos playing in the background.

Seems like SGM saw "Machete" movies and said "I wanna do that" without realizing those movies are action/comedy.
The motocross joke is now my favorite joke.
What do you do when the 1980's comedy "Zorro the Gy Blade" is more respectful to the Zorro character than 2024's Zorro?

Those were written and created by mexicans

The next Zorro comic by Murphy with be set on Cinco de Mayo

I'm sorry that they don't get the best view-numbers. But I do enjoy your comic reviews
With you here, definitely prefer this content to the meandering diatribes we generally get round these parts 😂
I love your mom's moto-cross joke, it's adorable 😂

Brutal 😬😆
For claiming to be punk, Sean is the most unpunk guy around..
this is all modern punk btw, they became what they wanted to destroy. Especially the punk rock bands
If you have to tell them you’re punk, you ain’t

It’s a bummer the story is so bad because the art really is amazing.
Who helped him with 'White Knight'?
Perch?

He needs to make an appointment to see a healthcare professional, there are a number of issues that would bear examination as he's at best slipping.
So he stole the plot of 'The 3 Amigos'. Can't wait for the Germans to show up.

@@David8n Assuming they did not get wedged into a random water pipe of course.
Zorro just doesn’t work for me if it’s set any later than the 1920s.

City of Zorro
Not just several learning disabilities, but all the learning disabilities.

It's embarrassing. Nothing more to be said.
I would assume it's not easy to decapitate a man with a fencing sword, bravo.
We are all Zorros
Face it, Zack, even if you want a lady Zorro, you can’t get away from Zorro being para las damas 😘🌹
At the risk of being Mr. Obvious, we do know that “zorro” means “fox,” right?
Yes, we do. Previous issues of the comic show Diego playing with the foxes.

I laughed at your mums lame joke. On the basis of this review, I will not be seeking out Sean Gordon Murphy's lame comic.
