In that war there were 130+ foreign military correspondents and journalists in Bulgaria, many of whom accompanied the Bulgarians in their _attacks and sieges._ There's a lot written by these people, a lot of documentation and if you're not a butthurt Turk, you could dig a little more. First, the Bulgarians outnumbered the Turks because the Bulgarians were on offense. This is a basic rule in the military tactics. Especially for the era in question. Very basic. Counting this as an advantage is nonsense. Usually the ones who are on offense are expected to be the ones who'd have much higher casualties. Interestingly enough, even on offense the Bulgarians rarely had more deaths than the Turks. Second, _"they still barely won"_ is not the kind of language the Ottoman commanders themselves used. When there's a fortress built by the best military engineers of Europe, full with ~75 thousand armed to the teeth men, with hundreds of cannons and machine guns, a fortress considered by the most competent military specialists across Europe to be *impossible to capture in less than several months* of bloodbath and only if the Prussians make an attempt, and in no case with a direct, open, infantry charge...and when you take it exactly this way in *two days* of fight, the siege being ended with ~11 *thousand defenders* dead, capturing the rest, while your loses are less than *two thousand* men, then this is not _barely a victory._ It is considered to be a feat of magic and there have been a reason all the newspapers across the world who followed the events back then to be in euphopric shock. Every major fortress captured by the Bulgarians has been visited by the military specialists from all the countries which were interested in the future existence of their statehood to learn *how it's done.* Including the ones who have been certain that some things are impossible in less than several months of hell. And no, not how _barely a victory_ is achieved. If you mean the war as a whole, simply the logistics couldn't catch up with the troops'' advancement, which led to shortage of foods, clothes, ammo, medications, which led to lower morale and high death rates from disseases. When you are at the Dardanelles, on the Marmara sea, infront of the Gates on the Bosphorus, the enemy infantry is runing in panic, instead of chasing and finishing the job, you had to wait for the logistics to find a way to supply you down there, while battleships are bombarding you in the open from the sea. A great-grandfather of mine have participated in the campaign and in his diary he wrote that two times he's been in combat in a trans like state while being (according to his describtions) "neither asleep, nor awake"", after days of no sleep and an amount of food consumed daily I'd die if I consumed even if I just sat on a couch and doing nothing. And still, the Russians had to threaten Bulgaria with war if the Bulgarians started a second, last, all out charge on Istanbul. On the other fronts, on other hand, the Turks without supply from Anatolia have been fighting against Bulgarian and allied to Bulgaria forces of three other countries (Greece, Serbia, Montengero), whose numbers combined were a bit more than the Bulgarians alone. In no way I'm donwplaying the role of the other back then allied to Bulgaria countries, but it's a fact that the war has been carried on Bulgaria's shoulders and without her, what has been done would *never* be done. Well the scene is strong and typical for that war, when enthusiasm of Bulgarian army and show the main spirit of that war. It was a battle of strong parties - Ottoman army was well lead but lost because of the high spirit and modern equipment of Bulgarians (usually those attacks had been with bayonets, but they are not shown here in the movie). This scene shows the huge Chataldja battle - Bulgarians were stopped there by the Ottoman army, which, after several big losses managed to do that before the gates of Istanbul. After a huge night counterattacks of the Ottomans failed to push Bulgaria back, a peace treaty was signed, but in 1913 started the second Balkan war between the Balkan Christian countries and Turkey took all the Trace land back. Today Turkey is big and strong, because Athaturk learned a lot from that loss in 1912. So see a great battle scene and enjoy, don`t say fuck that, fuck this - it is a good history lesson to all.

His idea to strike the two Bulgarian armies between them at Luleburgas - Bunarhisar operation was brilliant indeed. He could destrouy all Bulgarian army whitin days. His troops failed and were destroyed because that point turned out to be strongest in Bulgarian defence, not because there were a lot of troops there, but because of the high spirit of one regiment, which went into sudeen counterattack and this braketrough was filled in very fast with additional troops by the Bulgarian command. Or take the great navy commander Hussein Rauf bey, and others. Even Gazi Mehmed Osman pasha - yes, he lost Odrin (Edrine) but that was because of strong and inovative Bulgarian attack, supported by Serbs, and not because he was uncapable. Turkish soldiers were also very good, simply Bulgarians in that moment turned out to have high spirit and applied military inovations...
The commander in the beginning: Boris Stoyanov Drangov was a Bulgarian colonel and warfare pedagogue. Drangov was born in Skopje in Ottoman-ruled Macedonia, to the family of a rich timber merchant. I'm a Turk and I really hope that Bulgarians don't hate Turks, my old relatives used to live in Bulgaria in Tǎrgovište when it was an Ottoman Empire land, I feel some part of me belongs there and someday I hope I can visit.. I see Bulgaria as a friendly country, isn't it so?
I would imagine most bulgarians don't hate turks but you can always find ultra nationalists who hate everything that historically opposed Bulgaria. I hope Bulgaria and Turkey will build friendly relations and will bond over in the future cause that's what the Balkan region needs the most.

A lot of respect to our brave soldiers!!! I can't say the same for our diplomacy... I still think our strongest army was in WW1 when we achieve some very big victories against great powers and the reason for that is not luck or better manpower... Most of our generals had the chance to take part in more than one war which make our command one of the most experienced in Europe at that time...
I do feel sad for the Bulgarians that they had to live in terror,fear,humiliation and as second class citizens in their own lands for centuries. The Balkans were and still are against each other it's no wonder the Muslims took them easily. Croatia was spared that history so they must have been really strong.Why did'nt Bulgaria try and free itself in those years of occupation? Without Poland I doubt the Balkans would have seen freedom. And even when the russians came they would of lost without the bulgarians ...30 000 volunteers joined the russian army ...they helped them in many ways they even won the main battle at the Shipka mount where 4000bulgairan soldiers stopped 40 000 ottomans ....just read more and dont say that we didnt fight for our freedom....

The Russians sponsored most of the liberation struggles in the Balkans that's why they get much respect even today while Western Europe only stood by writing articles and watched as Christians were getting impaled for recreation by the Muslims. Then the Balkan states tore their asses up in the First Balkan War and effectively brought the Ottoman Empire to an end. Its all water under the bridge as long as the Turks stay in Asia. They are not European.

In that war there were 130+ foreign military correspondents and journalists in Bulgaria, many of whom accompanied the Bulgarians in their _attacks and sieges._ There's a lot written by these people, a lot of documentation and if you're not a butthurt Turk, you could dig a little more.
First, the Bulgarians outnumbered the Turks because the Bulgarians were on offense. This is a basic rule in the military tactics. Especially for the era in question. Very basic. Counting this as an advantage is nonsense. Usually the ones who are on offense are expected to be the ones who'd have much higher casualties. Interestingly enough, even on offense the Bulgarians rarely had more deaths than the Turks.
Second, _"they still barely won"_ is not the kind of language the Ottoman commanders themselves used. When there's a fortress built by the best military engineers of Europe, full with ~75 thousand armed to the teeth men, with hundreds of cannons and machine guns, a fortress considered by the most competent military specialists across Europe to be *impossible to capture in less than several months* of bloodbath and only if the Prussians make an attempt, and in no case with a direct, open, infantry charge...and when you take it exactly this way in *two days* of fight, the siege being ended with ~11 *thousand defenders* dead, capturing the rest, while your loses are less than *two thousand* men, then this is not _barely a victory._ It is considered to be a feat of magic and there have been a reason all the newspapers across the world who followed the events back then to be in euphopric shock. Every major fortress captured by the Bulgarians has been visited by the military specialists from all the countries which were interested in the future existence of their statehood to learn *how it's done.* Including the ones who have been certain that some things are impossible in less than several months of hell. And no, not how _barely a victory_ is achieved.
If you mean the war as a whole, simply the logistics couldn't catch up with the troops'' advancement, which led to shortage of foods, clothes, ammo, medications, which led to lower morale and high death rates from disseases. When you are at the Dardanelles, on the Marmara sea, infront of the Gates on the Bosphorus, the enemy infantry is runing in panic, instead of chasing and finishing the job, you had to wait for the logistics to find a way to supply you down there, while battleships are bombarding you in the open from the sea. A great-grandfather of mine have participated in the campaign and in his diary he wrote that two times he's been in combat in a trans like state while being (according to his describtions) "neither asleep, nor awake"", after days of no sleep and an amount of food consumed daily I'd die if I consumed even if I just sat on a couch and doing nothing. And still, the Russians had to threaten Bulgaria with war if the Bulgarians started a second, last, all out charge on Istanbul.
On the other fronts, on other hand, the Turks without supply from Anatolia have been fighting against Bulgarian and allied to Bulgaria forces of three other countries (Greece, Serbia, Montengero), whose numbers combined were a bit more than the Bulgarians alone. In no way I'm donwplaying the role of the other back then allied to Bulgaria countries, but it's a fact that the war has been carried on Bulgaria's shoulders and without her, what has been done would *never* be done.

Just look at the serb-ottoman battles, almost every battle was won by the Serbs. The ottomans just had greater numbers and were united under one cause. But you lost in the end. Well the scene is strong and typical for that war, when enthusiasm of Bulgarian army and show the main spirit of that war. It was a battle of strong parties - Ottoman army was well lead but lost because of the high spirit and modern equipment of Bulgarians (usually those attacks had been with bayonets, but they are not shown here in the movie). This scene shows the huge Chataldja battle - Bulgarians were stopped there by the Ottoman army, which, after several big losses managed to do that before the gates of Istanbul. After a huge night counterattacks of the Ottomans failed to push Bulgaria back, a peace treaty was signed, but in 1913 started the second Balkan war between the Balkan Christian countries and Turkey took all the Trace land back.
Today Turkey is big and strong, because Athaturk learned a lot from that loss in 1912.
So see a great battle scene and enjoy, don`t say fuck that, fuck this - it is a good history lesson to all.

Or take the great navy commander Hussein Rauf bey, and others. Even Gazi Mehmed Osman pasha - yes, he lost Odrin (Edrine) but that was because of strong and inovative Bulgarian attack, supported by Serbs, and not because he was uncapable. Turkish soldiers were also very good, simply Bulgarians in that moment turned out to have high spirit and applied military inovations...
The commander in the beginning: Boris Stoyanov Drangov was a Bulgarian colonel and warfare pedagogue. Drangov was born in Skopje in Ottoman-ruled Macedonia, to the family of a rich timber merchant. He graduated from the local Bulgarian Exarchate school or the Bulgarian Men's High School of Thessaloniki.During the First Balkan War of 1912-1913, Drangov headed a brigade on the Thracian front, defeating the Ottomans at Çatalca and during the Siege of Adrianople.

I'm a Turk and I really hope that Bulgarians don't hate Turks, my old relatives used to live in Bulgaria in Tǎrgovište when it was an Ottoman Empire land, I feel some part of me belongs there and someday I hope I can visit.. I see Bulgaria as a friendly country, isn't it so?
I would imagine most bulgarians don't hate turks but you can always find ultra nationalists who hate everything that historically opposed Bulgaria. I hope Bulgaria and Turkey will build friendly relations and will bond over in the future cause that's what the Balkan region needs the most.

I do feel sad for the Bulgarians that they had to live in terror,fear,humiliation and as second class citizens in their own lands for centuries.
The Balkans were and still are against each other it's no wonder the Muslims took them easily.
Croatia was spared that history so they must have been really strong.Why did'nt Bulgaria try and free itself in those years of occupation?
Without Poland I doubt the Balkans would have seen freedom.

And even when the russians came they would of lost without the bulgarians ...30 000 volunteers joined the russian army ...they helped them in many ways they even won the main battle at the Shipka mount where 4000bulgairan soldiers stopped 40 000 ottomans ....just read more and dont say that we didnt fight for our freedom....

Croatia was also conquered by the Ottoman Empire and Poland was conquered by Russian Empire. Savoy did fight the Turks but he mostly stopped them from invading the rest of Western Europe. The Russians sponsored most of the liberation struggles in the Balkans that's why they get much respect even today while Western Europe only stood by writing articles and watched as Christians were getting impaled for recreation by the Muslims. Then the Balkan states tore their asses up in the First Balkan War and effectively brought the Ottoman Empire to an end.
Its all water under the bridge as long as the Turks stay in Asia. They are not European.
