The easiest way to cut steel - Machine build DIY

  • Today we're gonna make metal cutting chop saw.
    I tried to use relatively simple and available tools to show you that you can do interesting things without super expensive equipment.
    I decided to build this saw for several reasons.
    1. Swivel arm with blade instead of swivel vice. It is very helpful with long elements.
    2. Thanks to the brushless, low-speed motor and lack of modes, the machine is much quieter than store machines.
    3. I bought the engine a long time ago, just like the shaft, and I wanted to use it.
    4. Cutting is much faster than on a band saw or angle grinder.
    5. I had a lot of steel that I wanted to use to avoid unnecessary costs.

    Many will say "why not just buy one?". Well, they'll end up keep buying one after another. Building it like you did will last a whole lot longer than any one sold at the store. I built a wood mill instead of buying one. Built it 15 years ago and still works like a charm. I love the detail you put into this project and keeping safety a factor.

    You're a grandmaster, you have no idea how highly you're rated here. One Russian commented that such equipment as your workshop does not have his specialized company. Bravo, your mind, your head is power. I'm a little sorry just because some of your solutions require such instrumentation that it's impossible to copy them. However, I already have this saw on the wallpaper so far I have used abrasive discs, your solution is excellent. I greet and wish you successful inspiration. you're probably one of the most technologically advanced thinkers here. I'll keep an eye on your exploits. I'm proud of you, even though you could be my grandson.

Pewien Rusek skomentował, że takiego wyposażenia, jak Twój warsztat nie posiada jego specjalistyczne przedsiębiorstwo. Brawo, Twoja myśl, Twoja głowa to potęga. Trochę mi przykro tylko z tego powodu, że pewne Twoje rozwiązania wymagają takiego oprzyrządowania, że nie sposób ich skopiować. Jednak tę piłę mam już na tapecie dotychczas używałem tarcz ściernych, Twoje rozwiązanie jest znakomite. bigrockets people say this for just about every product. Until you’ve actually created something, produced, and then everything else involved in the process of selling it, you have no idea if something is over priced or not. Just because you think it’s too expensive, doesn’t make it over priced. And I say that as someone that’s done all the things mentioned, and was constantly told by people like you, that my products were over priced. They weren’t.

    Nice job. For Cold-Saw 2.0 you should add variable speed to the motor to slow it down a bit. Also add inexpensive mist coolant to the blade or a stream of coolant and put the machine over a coolant recovery tub. The blade will last much longer if it has coolant. You should never see sparks come from that type of blade. If the steel chips are blue in color, it's rotating too fast.

    • @jbartelt2000
      @jbartelt2000 2 роки тому

      That blade is a carbide tipped dry cut blade. It is not designed to be run with any type of coolant. The idea is that the heat leaves with the cut chips.

    • @bernardmauge8613
      @bernardmauge8613 2 роки тому +1

      Oan Tech you are correct. Above 500RPM carbide needs coolant. On a thick cut the blade gets so hot and warps , because it is very thin to start with. Ask me how I know I have a lathe. There are many things wrong with this design. The pedestal is not rigid enough. That affects the angle of cut. See how his 45 is off. There is nothing for the blade not to slam on the base at the end of the cut. All the welds are cold none of the joints are chamfered. This said for a cheap saw it is way better than the Dewalt model made out of sheet metal and not rigid at all. He also could have used a 3HP DC motor with infinite rpm control. The way he cuts steel with a cut off wheel is insane for the amount of dust and time spent. his shop must be caked in steel powder as well as his lungs. In time, parts, money and energy this cannot beat a 14"cut off saw for $600. The ideal saw should also be able to move forward like the carpenter saw which allow for very wide cuts and provide for compound angles very useful to bevel flat bars. I think Evo made one a few years ago for steel, this is what he should have copied for the ultimate saw,

    • @oantech4252
      @oantech4252 2 роки тому

      @@jbartelt2000 No.. I can't agree with that.. Sparks should never fly from a metallic blade, only a stone/grit blade. In this application cutting ferrous steel, coolant is necessary for longest blade life and quality of cut. Heat is the enemy here in my many years of experience. If you are cutting aluminum, you can get away dry, but coolant would still improve the blade life and quality of cut.

    • @jbartelt2000
      @jbartelt2000 2 роки тому

      @@oantech4252 I think you are confusing the blade type that is on that saw. If it was a M4 or High speed steel blade designed for a "cold saw" then yes coolant would be required and appropriate. These blades run a SFM under 150 for mild steel at about .002" per tooth depth of cut and SFM around 250-300 for aluminum. However this is a carbide tipped "dry cut blade" there is a major difference in how these cut. The drycut carbide tipped blades are designed to run at around 3000 SFM and higher and about .0001" per tooth cut depth. The main reason for not running coolant on these is because of thermo-shock. The rapid cooling of the teeth cause them to fracture. This is also why allot of modern indexable carbide mills used in CNC machining centers are run through mild steel without using coolant. It is also very common for the chips to be red hot or at least blue when leaving these type of cutters. Coolant is required however when cutting aluminum with these blades. The reason is to keep the aluminum from sticking to the blade teeth and gumming up the blade. This same phenomena happens when cutting aluminum with carbide endmills.
