I typically don't have an appetite while thru hiking for a good 4-7 days. I eat because I know I need the calories but I'm pretty much choking everything down. I have found that drinking calories is better for me at the start of a hike.
I wonder what training you came into this with? In '22 I went 30mi my first day with heavy water and food carries KBS to Spooner Lake to Marlette, and regretted it for the rest of the way! I ended up bailing at Echo due to injury and running out of time, so I'm thinking about doing it again CW with more experience, fitness, and hopefully wisdom. Maybe this year if a good week lines up.
Very little. I’m a runner so I had a good cardio base but hadn’t ran a race in 7 months before this. Living in east Texas, I had zero elevation training. Sounds like a valiant effort! I might do it again myself. I wish I would have went slower. I’m certain it’d be easier the second time. Thanks for checking out the video!
Pretty much the opposite for me! I run off and on, but haven't raced in years. Living in the mountains though, I can't walk a mile without a couple hundred feet elevation.
