His playing and his sound came together perfectly and the tunes were dark in contrast with their other material. Their best album in my opinion and definitely my favorite VH album.
Hey man, this is the first time I’ve seen your face without the wig and sunglasses. Great video as always! Love your channel. Please keep the lessons coming.
@@PDXguitarfreak Dont worry its nothing big...people listening the original on trying to catch the vibe they will reach for that...:} intuitively! KEEP IT UP!
Great Job once again on decoding. Damn Eddie was pure genius. How did he come up with this stuff? Good lord it makes my head hurt trying to wrap my brain around his brilliance.
The tapping in this solo is a thing of beauty! Only rivaled by maybe the likes of Vito Bratta. Very tasteful tapping, if that makes sense. You did an awesome job on this as usual!
Hey thanks man! I agree about Vito. I remember when I first learned the solo to Wait back in the '80s after getting the tabs via a guitar mag. I was really impressed by his approach to tapping... he made it interesting, and not just the usual "repeating pattern" approach that imitated Eruption. :)
Great playing, timing, tone , i'm gonna have to subscribe, your teaching is really good . Thank you for taking the time to show how to play those masterpieces
You are so good at breaking these solos down. Great skill set. Have you ever been in a van halen tribute band? Guitar is beautiful. All my grizzly guitar kits are prs copies. Another great vid!
Hey Ben, thanks bro! Never been in a band that played VH... My last band around 1992 was definitely more thrash oriented.. like I mentioned before, can't play the thrash rhythm stuff like I used to though LOL :)
My friend that is the best I have seen yet. You are extremely gifted! thank you for posting this. always wanted to learn that piece. Many guitar players out there have no idea of the complexity of this piece at it is awesome.
Super great video of my favorite EVH solo. i have a hare-brained theory you might be interested in about the section starting at 5:36: i think Eddie half-missed a note in what he was trying to do, which would make the fingering slightly different. i think he was trying to do this not uncommon country lick which makes a major scale out of a combination of open and fretted notes around the 5th and 7th frets. so my theory is that the weird pause between the 7th and 4th frets on the G string here is actually a missing C (5th fret G string) and that the B following that is an open B string instead of the 4th fret G string, then it ends on the normal 7th fret A. Try it, it seems to make more rhythmical and phrasing sense, and we “know” that he was listening to players like Albert Lee back then, someone who would totally play this lick. Or: maybe my mind has always just filled in that extra note and it’s all a mirage. Anyway, thought i’d share since you really nailed all of the details of this solo. Thanks!
That's why Van Halen is top 10 of all time, thiers nothing technical going on in that solo,it's unique,aggressive,jazzy/blusey,keep you on the edge of your seat type of solo,it takes a genius to come up with that solo
Best on You Tube, you got Phrasing and timing correct, even when teaching it. I have it perfect now, took a while and I am usually Money, but this one sounds easy, but it isn't to sound just like the trecord and play it in the same time. I never am 100%, but I am 99.3%
Making my day better by the minute, another awesome lesson, amazing playing as always!! Love the new PRS as well, if I can request a solo lesson, Wasted Years by Iron Maiden
You know? It's dudes like you, and others on UA-cam, who make me wanna pick up every guitar I own and chuck them out the window! Well done. A beautiful video lesson and am not a romantic kinda' guy.
Right on. You are a freaking killer teacher and amazing guitarist. Oh! and I like the new wig. When did you start that? I saw it on the last video too. lol ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
One tip for the kids; remember to do a HALF step bend at 6:46 (G bent to G#) to link up with the E chord. This happens a few times in the solo, even though it's just a "power chord" on the rhythm guitar track, they were clearly considering it an E Major chord.
Thank you so much for helping us out with more VH. It is much appreciated. P.S. I didn't like Kiss without their makeup. Please put the wig back on. You are the best!
Standard tuning? What's that? (j/k) I can't remember the last time my guitar was in ST. Ever since I saw you play this solo in a previous video I've been hoping you'd do a lesson on it. Well worth the wait.
@@PDXguitarfreak Yeah, to HELL with tuning a guitar with a Floyd Rose. Even Eddie just switches guitars when playing a standard tuning tune live. Last time I saw them you could tell what songs were in standard just based on the guitar he was using.
Figured out the 5th note of the solo catharsis. that was in my head but not my hand, LOL Check it out bro, The tapped note (helped along with the left bending the left up BEFORE he hammers down the right, and dips the pitch little before holding that note for the harmonic part. I play ghost bends all the time but not like that!! Fuckin Crazy Kewl! Only Eddie! Ghost bend tapping ROCKS! Note for note perfect. This is Eddie's most clever solo in my opinion.
Thank you Zack! It is one of those rare gems :)
My fav also! :)
Agreed!
Absolutely. My fave EVH solo as well.
@@PDXguitarfreak It reminds of his hero Holdsworth!
These 53 years old ears have heard a lot of VH. You really got the Edward sound happening.
Thanks Mike! I appreciate that comment, because it is so hard to recreate the magic that comes from EVH's fingers 🎸👍
Awesome tutorial. Eddie is such a dirty bluesy player. Damn that Fair Warning is an unsung masterpiece.

Thank you a lot for this video, it is one of my favorite solo of EVH, great job my friend
I've been amazed, obsessed, with this solo for decades. Thanks for the lesson.
I love the feeling and movement you bring to your playing. There’s a dynamic you possess which can’t be taught.
That was very kind of you! I try to play with feel over flash when I can! :)
penny wise /// exactly right Penny Wise. PDX has a gift which is why his playing stands out from all the other playing out there. Love this channel.
Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful!
I swear no one phrased like Edward did...just so innovative. Great work!
IMO this is Eddys most nuanced solo ever regarding phrasing, timing and note selection and you REALLY nailed it
Perfect lesson.. learned much ..always!!!
Sound like Eddie himself!!!

Probably his very best solo
It's one of his most unique :)

Love this, u nailed it! EVH is very difficult to capture his nuances & technique you do it so well... keep them coming please
