Info for new teachers seeking jobs 1) Consider the Principal's point of view: "Why are they hiring a "brand new" teacher? 1a) Because they have a shortage of teachers? 1b) Because they are trying to balance their budget? (and 1st year teachers save them money as they are at the 'bottom' of the salary table) - These are real conversations administrators have . . . 2) My second piece of advice is to "plan" to leave your school after 2 years (unless it's your dream school). Teachers with 3 to 5 years of teaching experience are the most desirable candidates (Why? Because they already have experience, and they are low on the salary table) . . . Once you reach 8 to 10 years of experience it's almost impossible to switch schools, because 1) You're higher on the salary table, 2) Teachers at the other schools, will reject you during the interview process, because a 10 year veteran would have greater "seniority" and would eclipse them in the pecking order for choosing the plum grade level jobs . . . Just some of the politics you learn over the years, and it's best to know from the beginning.

I am so happy for you! Congratulations!!! I have taught preschool through second grade and first grade is my favorite!!! You will do great and it is a wonderful grade to start in. Please keep posting...you are going to be AMAZING as a first grade teacher! With first graders, you will be their idol! Start practicing procedures right away and keep redoing them until they do it correctly. You are going to love it!

Congratulations! I don't know you personally, but you will be amazing. Don't stress the things you don't know. They will come with time. I had a mentor my first year who constantly told me to focus on "the meat and potatoes," and the rest would come with experience. After 26 years in the classroom, I started to understand her point and tell other new teachers that phrase. If you are looking for a first grade teacher to get some ideas, check out Mayleen from Mrs. Call's Campers. Her videos give me such amazing ideas and a classroom view of phonics and phonemic awareness. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for the advice! There's so much relief knowing that teachers don't need to know it all in the beginning. However, imposter syndrome is still a huge battle at times. I've been watching Mayleen these past couple days to learn!! She's awesome.

Congratulations! Hopefully you'll have a great mentor teacher who can help you along the way. Give yourself some grace. It's okay if everything isn't perfect right away in your classroom. Get your classroom set up and decorated first.
