  • 2nd visit to Southend Central on the London, Tilbury and Southend Line first since August 2018
Featuring services from c2c including a first look at the new Class 720/6s on test however filming was cut short than originally intended due to a fault on a train at Southend East.
Southend has 3 key stations with Southend East being the next station to the East
The main 2 with Southend Central being the closest to serve Southend Pier and the city centre of Southend and the other being slightly North is Southend Victoria on the Shenfield to Southend Line which is the terminus of Greater Anglia services from London Liverpool Street.
The station opened in 1856 at the time when the former London, Tilbury and Southend Railway opened from London Fenchurch Street via Rainham and Grays which remained the terminus for 32 years until it was extended east to Shoeburyness in 1888
In 1922 at one time there were 6 Platforms at Southend Central compared to today's 4 Platform layout with the other 2 Bay Platforms being located South of Todays Platform 4 and the Goods Sidings being North of Platform 1 however were taken out of use by 1981 which was redeveloped into a car park.
Electrification to Southend Central and Beyond Shoeburyness dates from 1969
Today's Bay Platforms 1 and 4 are used by terminating services mostly via Ockendon and Grays with Platforms 2 and 3 used by services to Shoeburyness.
At peak times services starting here can run via Rainham although most services via Rainham start and terminate at Grays with peak services extended to Pitsea.
At weekends train frequency to and from Shoeburyness via Laindon is approximately 1 train every 15 minutes alternating with services to London Fenchurch Street via Limehouse and London Liverpool Street via Stratford.
The latter use to operate mostly on Weekdays early morning or after 8pm at night when London Fenchurch Street was closed however nowadays weekday services operate to and from London Fenchurch Street.
Southend Pier / Adventure Island is only around 10 to 15 minutes to the South with the Pier Trains been around since 1986 however the originals were just been replaced by new modern Electric Battery power trains.
For many years Southend-on-Sea was a town however today Southend is designated a City in memory of the former MP of Southend West David Amess who tragically died on October 15th 2021.
City status was granted on October 18th 2021 and the letters by patent to Prince Charles the Prince of Wales on March 1st 2022 making Southend the 2nd city in Essex after Chelmsford was granted city status in 2012.
