How to Cook a Frozen Beef Rib Roast

  • Happy New Year! For new year dinner, I cooked a frozen rib roast. I got a great deal on a USDA Choice 2 Bone (5.5 lb) Rib Roast. I had to freeze while I went on holiday.
    For this video I'll show you how I cooked a frozen rib roast and for how long. I used Nana's Rib Roast Recipe and a meat thermometer to check the cooking and time to reach the desired temperature.
    Seasoning is simple: Salt and Pepper.

    Cooking from frozen is always a challenge and I think you did great... your New Y'ar's plate looked delicious!! I've had to reposition my probe before and I think if you had just repositioned to the side, it would not have affected anything and you could've left your racks the way they were with the roast more centered above the heat. But neither here nor there, you did a great job! I'm doing one right after this comment as I have a frozen 5lb/2 bone roast and your vid is ezackly what I was hoping for...gives me something to work from; I will likely do a combined initial sear, then very low&slow at 225-250F, then another reverse sear at the end. ...will likely take longer but I've got lots of time! :) . Thanx for sharing your method!

    Since you cook, you really should have know better than that. Why not just take it out and let it unthaw over night on the kitchen counter? It was such a beautiful piece of meat.

      You might want to research cooking beef from frozen. He did a great job.

      I just came back from a trip and I wanted to cook from frozen just to see how the roast would turn out. Surprisingly, the results did turn out nicely. As long as a meat thermometer is used, you can track the internal temp. Basically, I like to experiment for people.

      You should've paid more attention to what he said about just coming back from vacation and not having time to defrost instead of being a doosh. It still was a beautiful piece of meat.
