The thing I love about your builds Matt, is the fact that they are not all Chevy power trains. I get so sick of seeing guys build cool hot rods only to see the typical Chevy power train. Thank for keeping the true meaning of hot rods alive.

It’s amazing how well these cars steer and drive after a bit of maintenance. People are surprised that my Pontiac is still manual and stock steering, brakes and 3 speed trans and that I have driven it cross country, it actually drives really well. I’m sure your dad’s daily will be great to drive.

Hi Matt, been watching you videos for some time now . Just happen to be the owner of a '47 Ford Club Coupe . Other than new rockers and other welding a few years back I haven't touched it . Other projects took over . Just so happen to be a Dad too ! Got the coupe in the fall a few months after our youngest son was born . Youngest is going to be 25 in July , oldest will be 30 in April , and I'll be 60 next month . Think it's time Matt . Just a piece meal... old timey coupe with old Keystone Klassic wheels and pretty much original parts . May lower it a bit with longer front and rear shackles , may change to old steel rims with hub caps and trim rings . Thanks for the episodes with your Dad's coupe .

Boy, does your story sound familiar/reminiscent!! Started on a 29 A Pickup when with my youngest. His wife was pregnant with their first at the time. She, is now 23. The "A" project has a new TCI frame with all the steering and suspension pieces "tacked" on, brake lines are run, fuel lines (saddle tanks) are run, sheet metal is all done and mocked up. The engine and drivetrain is mocked up and the actual motor is running on a test stand. Always "more important" things taking priority as life goes by.
All I can say is try to make it a "priority". Possibly a nice Father/Son project with your youngest. Just now getting done with a 3 year update on a 57 Chevy, that was purchased as a "driver", with my Son. Great fun to be working together (on a car instead of a house remodel).

That steering box lube sounds similar to what I put in my old 1951 Farmall tractor's leaky steering box. The manual calls for 90w gear oil but rather than tear the front of the tractor apart to replace the seals, I use a 00 cotton spindle grease (flowable grease) that I get from Tractor Supply pretty cheap.

    Hey Matt
SOOO many memories watching you work on the Dad's Daily.
When I was 17 years old I sold my 46 Coupe before going into the Army in 1966.
And I have wish ever since that I had not sold it.
I have looked at hundreds of 46, 47 and 48 coupes and even a few 2 Dr. sedans thinking I could recapture the love I had for my coupe.
But I know that no other car could actually replace that coupe.
I did purchase a 2 door sedan last year but it is just a body, frame and both axles.
No front fenders or hood, no doors or rear deck lid.
It does have an original flathead inline six with no trans, but it is a boat anchor with no hope of ever being rebuilt.
I don't know that I will ever do anything with the car but while it is mine it is safe from the crusher !
It is for sale if anybody near the middle of Kansas is interested.
About the Gear lube, you could have warmed it and it would have poured right through the funnel.
    Thanks for the video.
    Be Safe, Well and Warm

If you are going to adapt a "3 on the tree" to an automatic, please don't cut corners in that. Make lock-outs and detents. That's a super cool thing to do, but only cool if it doesn't pop into gear when it's idling or down shifts on every bump. I have 3 guys right now wanting me to "fix" that for them because they tried this and it's actually harder to fix once it's in there. Not a jib on you, sorry if it came out like that, the 3rd guy called me this Fri & it was fresh in my mind.

If that was properly used (correct supported/mounted) it retains the past owner(s) build desires. My '30 coupe had a stack of 4 firewalls (reversed '30, wood pattern Formica on plywood, expanded Reynolds aluminum mesh, polished stainless) under the upolstered cowl band, which to keep? I flipped the '30 again, removing the outside radius and flushing it to the cowl edge.
An early '60 car it also had a complete '51 Chevy crossmember/steering/brakes welded under the A bone front frame horns for the 'gasser stance'! It was a Baltimore car, chartreuse green metal flake roll and tuck interior, '56 VW seats and gas tank, rumored to had a Hemi at one time. Does any 'Old Line Chaser' remember it?

Even though I'm putting a GM tilt in the one I'm doing for my dad right now, I do agree with you on this. I love the look of a "Stock Interior" and the steering wheel is almost the key to it all. Problem is finding one that is still in good, or good enough shape to fix. And yeas, making that 70's 80's tilt column look like it belongs in there. That's the key to it all. Too many (even the expensive IDIDIT kits) just don't look right once they are mounted in there.
Me..... stock big wheel solid column because I rarely tilt it anyway. Dad...... tilt with a custom wheel because he thinks it cool.
Super cool to the guy that sent that to you. Really diggin' this and all your others man. If you're ever in the SE Idaho area with a trailer, send me shout. For a few bucks and swapped stories I might be able to send you home fully loaded with rust.

Great decision to ditch the tilt wheel and gaudy interior. Lots of 4bbl. manifolds for 289-302s floating around. A small 4160 Holly would add 25+ hp and not look so "Sissy" under the hood. If your Dad doesn't like it pick me. What rear axle ratio does it have? It's 55 miles from my house to Vegas.

You mentioned you thought the front suspension was in a unusual position hanging there on the lift and the steering linkage would never rub in a normal driving situation, but I can see the car turning into a steep driveway, and the one side being pushed way up being compressed, and the other side hanging way down being extended, and it could possibly rub the linkage and bind the steering.

Hi Matt... I noticed in your builds that you don't seem to be a big fan of Automatic Transmissions...
Any specific reason, apart from the age factor with you building ''Original Rods'' ???

Hot Rods have 3 pedals. Anything I want to build for me I prefer a manual shifted car. This one I'm straying more towards a street rod for my dad and leaving it automatic.
