They should pay the going rate per cow calf unit as you would if you rented pasture on private land.

When you add all the work Ranchers do on improvements to public lands; they actually end up paying more per Animal Unit Month than on Private lands... something most people never understand and something the 'Environmentalists' discussed in the video are always providing misinformation about.

My rate for my summer range is $1 per cow per day. I run 800 head, so for 214 days I'm paying about $174,200 (just for summer grazing) the rest of my operation costs for repairs, winter feed, mineral, fuel, machinery, ect. Costs a bit more than that too. I lost alot of money last fall, my kids barely got christmas cause I couldnt pay myself. How about instead of judging us from whatever big city you live in, you should meet a few of us an learn from the ones out here instead of being brainwashed by someone on the tv

@@wildnevadakid9216 I don't think there are very many people that would dispute how hard ranchers work, how little profit there is, how difficult the lifestyle is, how their kids suffer, how their wives hold jobs to provide insurance, stability, and supplemental income or the emotional toll of ranching for a living. But, all those things are irrelevant. What upsets "big city" tax payers and those of us that live in rural areas is that it's a subsidized business model. Many of us run businesses where we work hard, work for little profit, never take a vacation or have a rare day off, have wives that work for insurance and supplemental income, and ... oh yeah, sometimes are barely able to give our kids a "Christmas." The thing is, we do it by choice, same as you. And, we do it with zero supplementation from the taxpayer who gets very little voice in what gets done with that PUBLIC land. If the business model you're working under doesn't work, then do something else.
My personal problem with ranching is how it effects wild life. I've personally experienced ranchers that fence off sources of water on public lands to prevent wild life from having access to water, and water ways insanely polluted with cow waste. Americas public lands seem vast, but it really is not. In the last forty years, 60 % of Americas wild animal population has been killed off, most due to ranching. If it competes with cows for resources, it has to go. We are quickly turning into a country of cows. I can knowledgeably speak on this as I grew up, worked, and did my own business in the meat industry for forty years. It's funny how once you step back away from something, a different point of view appears. And, in my opinion today, we are quickly destroying the landscape of this country with cows, irregardless of how hard you are working or how many "Christmas' " your kids go without.

They should pay MORE when grazing their animals on reservation land!

Only members of reservations can graze on the rez, that's a whole different system than us who pay to graze on blm allotments

My rate for the last couple years has been $1 per cow per day. I have around 800 mama cows an I can only graze them for 214 days on all my allotments added up. I payed about $174,000 for my cattle to graze last summer. That was only half of my total operation costs and I didnt even make that much when my calves were sold. Instead of telling us what the rules should be you should see what we go through out here.

@@wildnevadakid9216 consider. If you only used land that you actually own or rented from another owner. That's what you should base your income on.
The government land should not be used for ranchers to make money off of. The taxpayers supporting you.

I pay about $170,000 to graze my cows on public grounds each summer of each year, that's not counting all my other operation costs (about $200,000). My calves only made $300,000 last fall. You need to educate yourself an not listen to fake propaganda spreading around in your city life

We need to phase out grazing on public lands! Our range lands are in terrible shape. We need to bring back the Buffalo where applicable and large herds of elk deer and Antelope as well as wolves and beavers! Cattle degrade the land and reduce the biodiversity of our public lands. Our public lands are the Envy of the world!
