@@jacopobon3682 All great suggestions, because the original *Pinocchio* (1940) is considered by many to be Disney's masterpiece and it's insane that the guys haven't seen it yet, *101 Dalmatians* (1961) is the first Disney feature film to be animated entirely in the sketchier "wax crayon" xerox style, and *Ichabod and Mr. Toad* (1949) includes a re-telling of the story of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (aka The Headless Horseman), so it would be perfect for the upcoming Halloween season.

One of my favorite Disney non-Princess animations. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve dug deeper into the different theories of Peter Pan. Like how Pan is actually evil and stealing young boys and Capt Hook was a boy that got away, grew up on the island and tried to stop Pan from kidnapping more. Or Pan is the child of death that helps little boys who pass transition to the afterlife where you don’t ever have to grow up.
    Love learning different theories

    Some little funfacts:
Wendy is voiced by the same actress who voiced Alice in the Disney alice in wonderland who would later reprise her role as Alice in the first Kingdom Hearts game.
And the father and captain hook have the same voice actor as well which I think is a tradition from the play that the actor of the father and captain hook is always the same actor.

A fun fact is the girl who did Wendys voice also did Alices voice from Alice in wonderland. Also, as much as I love this movie. Still can't believe how talented people are I mean I could never draw or animate a whole movie or show. I honestly like the 2003 live action way better because I love live action movies and I genuinely just think it's better epically since Hook died and just the overall ending and way it was made/written, like them adding in some scenes. But that's just my opinion. I'll always love the original though to be honest this is my first time seeing this since it's been a couple years since I've seen the original. So, this will mark my age, but this was the FIRST movie I ever saw in the theater. I was about 3 or 4 when it was re-released and my family went to see it. I only have vague memories of it, of course, but my mom talks about how proud my little sister (who was 2 or 3) and I were of our father, who laughed so hard, he cried. We told everyone who would listen that "our dad laughed the hardest and the loudest". It's one of the BEST defining characteristics of a good "family" movie (IMO) that both adults and children can thoroughly enjoy a movie. This movie will always have a place in my heart because of it. I saw someone else mention The Sword in the Stone, which I would 2nd as a recommendation. Also, I don't know if you guys do any of the old live-action Disney movies, but The Absent-Minded Professor is delightful, and I recommend it strongly as well as its sequel, Son of Flubber (the 1963 version).

The 2013 Peter Pan was actually much more faithful to the original story by J.M. Barrie. One of the key things they left out however is that Peter Pan is actually a villain. He got the lost boys by kidnapping them from nurseries and orphanages in their sleep. Also the scene where Hook tried to poison Peter and Tink drinks it and dies and Peter calls upon everyone to believe in fairies in their sleep is accurate unlike the cartoon where Hook tried to blow up Peter with a bomb in a box that he made Peter think was from Wendy. And also the scene where Wendy gets shot down and her "kiss" necklace saves her is accurate too.

Honestly I think it would be super cool If you guys would also react to Hook (1991) with Robin Williams now! It’s a real life adaptation as well but kinda acts like a sequel to the original story so it’s not the same like the one you reacted to already. I don’t wanna say too much tho since it’s a truly fantastic movie. (And I’m already curious If you James would recognize a certain persons voice who’s also starring in this movie😌😉)
Then there would also be Finding Neverland (2004) with Johnny Depp in the lead role which is more of a biopic of the original creator of Peter Pan J.M Barrie and tells the story how and why the story and character of Peter Pan was created and how everything came to life. Such a beautiful, truly touching film that made me appreciate the story of Peter Pan even more.
Then we also have the newest adaptation Pan (2015) with Hugh Jackman which is a complete re- imagination of the classic story but imo a very well done one! And definitely an interesting take
Of course it would be awesome If you‘d watch all of the three because I personally would love to hear from the both of you who were not familiar with Peter Pan story how your perception of the story changes but Hook (1991) definitely has to be done!🥺
And speaking of the story, I actually just recently listened to the audiobook of the original Peter Pan story because I was looking something to listen to in bed before falling asleep but… the original story is actually truly horrifying at times.
Mr. and Mrs Darling for example were horrified of Peter Pan taking their children and he’s generally not seen as a good figure more like an evil being that kidnaps children If the parents don’t watch them and keep the windows open.. his character in general is more ruthless and even more egocentric. There are many occasions where he almost kills Wendy John and Michael because he forgets about them or because he gets bored. He also punishes the Lost Boys If they don’t follow his rules. And Tinkerbell is more ruthless as well and so on.
I think the Disney movie did really well with referencing the original story and some events that happened. Overall I‘d say it’s pretty accurate🤔

Fun fact! When writing the original play, they had a scene where the audience was supposed to react. It was the scene where tinkerbell was fading out, the audience was supposed to be called out to, and asked to chant if they believed in fairies in order to save tink. They were worried it would seem too childish for an adult audience, but on their first night debut, they were met with roars of belief from the audience amongst tears at her surviving. So much so that the actors themselves got emotional. That story always gets me. 😢

Duncan's appeal to the audience for the dying Tink was incredibly moving, and the audience response was immediate and deafening. Traditionally played onstage by a simple spotlight, Tinkerbelle was played, I believe for the first time ever in that production, by a hologram.

    Fun Fact:
In 1929, with the popularity of both the play and the novel firmly established, Barrie unexpectedly and generously gifted his copyright of Peter Pan to Great Ormand Street Hospital. (Children's Hospital in London)
Barrie had already supported GOSH over many years and in 1929 he was approached to sit on a committee to help buy land, so that the Hospital could build a much-needed new wing. Barrie declined but said that he ‘hoped to find another way to help’. Two months later, the Hospital board was stunned to learn that Barrie had donated all his rights for Peter Pan to GOSH. At a Guildhall dinner later that year, Barrie explained the impetus for his gift: “At one time, Peter Pan was an invalid in the Hospital… and it was he who put me up to the little thing I did".
Through this gift, Peter Pan’s magic made an unprecedented leap from the realm of fiction into reality and the hospital began to receive royalties every time a production of the play was on, as well as from the sale of Peter Pan books and other products. Barrie requested that the amount raised for the hospital from Peter Pan never be revealed, and GOSH has always honoured his wishes. Thus, for 93 years, the story of Peter Pan and his battle against arch-enemy Captain Hook has enchanted children and adults alike, and continues to benefit the seriously ill children who come to GOSH for life-saving treatment every day.
