COMPTON - Beezy and other members of the Santana Blocc Compton Crips talk about music and sports as being the main avenue to attain success and that college is not a realistic option.
Even the music business is changing and not paying as some people expected. They reflect on how life might be different if they grew up in the upscale communities of Palos Verdes or Beverly Hills.

Let's be honest. Gang banging isn't still around because of poverty and lack of opportunity. It's more about something that's lacking in the individual.
Humans have a strong need for a sense of belonging. The need for acceptance and being apart of something bigger than themselves. It's tribal.

But what you're describing all falls into the tribalistic nature humans have.
Poverty is the natural starting point in nature. Humans naturally evolved in tribes. Tribes provide benefits. That's not a capitalist thing. That's something deeply rooted. I think when people start blaming poverty then they're just looking at this from a very surface level and ignoring the root of it all.
      There's nothing like camaraderie.
Then when you look at the breakdown of family structures, it only makes sense that Street gangs do provide something for people that seek family, belonging, camaraderie. I've seen it my whole life.

Y'all have no idea wat he means y'all talking bare bullshit, he's saying a job pay doesn't really help u live in the hood bills n a lot of shit has to be paid in time in order to live there, two weeks is too long.... basically what he's saying it's hard to be positive when ur born into a cycle of madness n it's no escaping it, outsiders will never understand this cuz they never been thru nothing

reckless bro i understand ur message but that has nothing to do with being born into madness its just simple thinking if u need money everyday to eat and chill and pay bills how can u wait 2 weeks for that u starving everyday until 2 weeks simple thinking any regular person goes thru that but difference is people have other people to borrow money from and u in da hood u dont have anyone

What he says at 7:38 was my experience in High School (Centennial '89). I knew lot of CPCC and BHBG and the word "gang" never ever came up. Growing up and thus reflecting I began to realize it must have been "stress free" chilling at my house playing Atari and shit. As rumors would circulate about guys involved with shootings and shit, I slowly distanced. To me, I was surrounded by gang members (and believe me it was ON back then) but it was like they had two lives. Gang and non-gang. Very interesting to here him say that....

What I respect is that these guys understand that if you want to move forward, you must take risks. What I DON'T respect is that these guys are quick to put down education. I'm an inner city teacher, I've seen some of my students go on to trade school, learn to fix cars, learn to fix pipes, learn to do HVAC, learn to build houses and do construction, and they are barely in their 20's making at least $20 an hour which is actually not bad at all for "entry level work." It IS possible to have an honest living and still be able to pay all your bills, even in the hood, but you have to be WILLING TO WORK. If you're such a high risk individual, why not study entrepreneurship and be a legitimate business man instead of just another drug dealer destined for prison? Sports and music are too heavily saturated with minorities all trying to be at the top - sports and music is NOT for everybody; I've produced several records for artists over several years and didn't earn enough to feed myself, let alone a family. BE SMART, look at the options in front of you and find something positive to do.

True but you have to understand the reality which is they are basically starting a race from the bottom of a hill and everyone else starts at the top. Then when they don't get out of the hood everyone looks down on them for not overcoming extreme hardship and bad odds. However, when someone from the middle class lives their whole life and doesn't advance to the upper class, no one says anything. This is coming from someone who grew up in group homes and now I live 20 minutes from them going to ucla about to graduate.

IMO, THATS the problem right there. Why do us Blacks always think those are our only outlets to become successful? Sports, Music, Entertainment, etc.? Fuck that, the Black community needs Buisness owners, Lawyers, politicians, LEADERS, Teachers/Educaters, etc. Also, people talk about "aint no jobs" YOU HAVE TO LOOK. And if you want a good job, invest in yourself to gain the qualifications/skills to obtain THAT job or Career. We have to Break that Fear of Change forreal. Peace.

I really like this title Bro and the message. it adds context to the reality of minimum wage and the effect it has on people.
I hope upcoming entertainers can learn from what Akon did with his initiative for Africa.
Real cool to see They aren't knocking good paying jobs and would tell a shorty this might not be the best life choice.

when you listen most, not all but must gang members young or old, they all seem to "know"! they may not be able to articulate it the best way but they know there is more to life than this circle of violence. sad however when i hear them say sports and music is our primary way out and see higher education and a 9-5 as distance so to speak.
Second part is i fucks with the LA/west coast interviews way more than these weird ass out of town wannabes. these dudes are way more authentic and half the video is not waisted on trying to figure out and justify when and how a LA gang started where their from. These west coast hoods are born in it, generational. most of the time trying to find a way out. these OT dudes be looking happy as shit they copying a culture of violence that they dont even have to be apart of! on top of we as viewers cant even get a real thurl insight on others cities "hood" history because their so busy calling out LA shit!

I first learned about StreetGangs while working on a job. Driving trucks with Mad Ronald from 20's who has an early SG interview. Dam near everyone working there had done long stretches in the pen.
I'm not saying it's easy. But we gotta stop thinking everything is supposed to be easy. Knock on 100 doors, no response? Knock on 101 the next day.

It's tough for most of us unless you were born with nepotism on your side.
You need passion and focus to succeed in life. Plus, there are a lot of people that don't have their health, born with a disease or something other. Your cries about what you idolize and your personal choices growing up means nothing to them... Remember, good health is a blessing and not one to take for granted. Not to mention, the U.S. is a 1st world country with opportunities in every direction, such as a respectable school system that you can choose to achieve in and graduate onto college with grants to pay for tuition.
Again, it's easier said than done but nothing good comes easy....

Red vs blue in LA hasn't been a thing for quite some time. However, hoods still represent. But its not a thing like, "Oh, he has on blue chucks. Let's murk this fool". Or he has on a red hat, he an ememy. Nowadays, some hoods just wear certain "brands" of clothing to identify themselves. But gangbanging as a whole has declined over the years.
