Not only is real estate expensive but so is everything else. Grew up on the North Shore in the 2000s and seeing a gallon of milk go for $5 was average. Cereal and milk, a staple of children's childhoods, was more a luxury. Not that I should complain, our milk was far cheaper than the other islands. Pretty much everything comes onto Oahu first before getting shipped out to the other islands, so our $5 milk could and would reach close to the $10 mark on the remote parts of other islands just to account for that. So, yeah, priced out of paradise. I'm trying to think of how many of us who grew up there are still living on any island in Hawaii. Can't think of too many. Far more have left than stayed behind.
3:28 "Conversion to Christianity was small so the cultural identity grew weaker over time" Hawaiian culture grew weaker because their population dwindled not because of Christianity. Did the European or Arab cultures grow weaker because of Christianity and Islam. I think that's a weird argument to explain Hawaiian cultural genocide.

Geography is always a factor when it comes to population density.

Only the last 5 mins is on topic.
Easy, PEARL HARBOR. The military is the reason O'ahu became the main island.
