I have a Sony NEX-5 camera that a friend gave me as a gift when he bought a new Sony camera, because of that I'm trying to learn to take photos, I wonder if this 18-200mm lens could be a "good enough" choice for what I'm trying to do, I have the Stock 18-55mm E 3.5-5.6 OSS I'm a beginner and want to take photos in my scout group Hikes, dances and Forest ranger work, I mostly want to be able to take photos of my friends, animals and landscapes from a good distance! I'm wondering if I should buy it or save to buy a newer Sony Lens!.... Also, the struggle trying to work with my ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed is real haha I also own several M42 lenses that my father left, like the famous HELIOS 44m-4 2/58, and I wonder if I should buy an adapter! (is using adapters and buying a lens from a different brand a good option?) (i think i really want a telephoto lens) any kind of help will be much apreciated
If you really need a large zoom for a good price then this is still a good lens if you can find it used for a good price! There are other lenses that have better aperture for example the 18-105 f4, but that doesn't have the zoom range that this lens has. Of course if you want better image quality then you can always spend more, but most of the time the 18-200 is good enough. I sadly never tried using third party adapters, so I can't tell you too much about it, but online I've seen other people use it and they are getting great results
