"I hope you found some value on that", after explaining short and simple but in great dept, possibly making my uchimata and Judo in general way better 😁
Awesome explanation of Maruyama's technique. One of the best uchimata explanations I've ever heard. Keep up the good work Travis, it seems to me that your channel is worth joining. You may become even a better coach than you were a player (and you were an awesome player).
Really really really awesome video Travis thank you! I really enjoyed your observations and your attention to the small details which differentiates Maruyama's uchimata from others on the circuit (and at all levels in fact). I personally believe that what differentiates the Japanese as well as the really great competitors is that full commitment you pointed out. I know that I do my best to replicate that mentality in my own judo!
@@TravisStevensgrappling after your video, i went to watch Shonei Onos Uchimata as I thought previously that that was the most impressive uchi mata I ever saw. Not an more Maruyamas is godly. Interestingly they are training partners. edit: spelling
Thank you very much for everything you do for the judo community!!! I think your videos help thousands of people to improve their judo. You are doing a priceless help! Thank you!!!
Turning throws are all about torque. It's just like a gold swing. Mark McGwire weighed 240 lbs and hit 70 HRs in a single season. But even McGwire can't drive a golf ball as far as Tiger or Rory McIlroy; he simply can't get the amount of torque that they can. When Maruyama leaps into his Koshi or Oikomi Uchimata, he covers 4' in the same time it takes someone else to cover 2'. So it looks as if his sweeping leg is floating before it's replaced by his posting leg. When he finally pushes of his posting leg and turns his torso, the amount of torque generated by recovering 4' of distance is just crazy. Especially for someone who competes at 145 lbs.
Hello Travis I think your analysis was super helpful and made me realize how important it is to cover distance when it's time to throw. But there's something I don't understand. How is Maruyama able to break the balance of the opponent? I mean he doesn't have space to pull with his hands and kuzushi. When I enter I need distance to pull from a stable position and enter afterwards. I don't know if I made my point. I just don't see how is able to pull that off.
Thank you, sory for asking in this video but where´s the Uchimata and Harai Goshi clinic ? Cannot find the video. If you can tell me please I´d be very grateful.
Maybe an idea for a video: I keep hearing that left handed judo players are awkward to handle, have an advantage etc. It would be cool to see a vid that would enlighten what is is that left handed people can take their advantage with (likekwhat throws and spacing etc.) and maybe how righties can adapt to fighting a left judoka. Im a leftie so i might be biased on this but i think itd be pretty cool
@@TravisStevensgrappling No, afaik not yet, they're still waiting for the result of the next Abe v. Maruyama match. The head to head is still 2-2. I'm rooting for Maruyama tho.

Maruyama has got to be one of the most exciting to watch currently. So much style.
Learning how to look at what is going happening in a match is really helping me identify my own weaknesses. Thank you Travis
Awesome! I'm glad it helped!

I'll make a video explaining it.
Difference between a World Champion and 99 % of everyone else
I'm convinced. I'll be quitting Judo to take up competitive jumping now.
LMAO! Maruyama has some real skill!
His cool
I wonder if Travis likes to keep up with judo tournaments and what not
Not really. But I do like to go back and watch surprising matches and out come to see what happened.

Does this mean Mastering Uchimata is on the horizon....like soon?
Plus Harai Goshi! He said that...
Still working on it!
So, I see 'Murica is still sticking with the feet and inches thing...
How to jump like Maruyama?
A lot of judo.
The 66kg division is stacked with talent .Maruyama, Abe, Lombardo, Ganbold....if you had to bet ?
Denis Vieru also
It's a crazy division!
Travis Stevens
How do you think Basile will do at 73kg?

Has far as the upper body goes how do we consider our hips in relation to our head going lower
We need to see hashimoto soichi video
Which video and what about the video?
@@TravisStevensgrappling he has a unique sode tsuri komi goshi hidden more than any other judoka he's judo is very different from other judoka's
So, if this little guy could do it from 1 meter far , I ought to try from 2,3 meters😂😂😂😂😂
That was my exact thought. LMAO
If you really want to improve your uchi mata, then do the splits
Maruyama for the Olympics
Was he chosen?
