Discovering the Beauty of Hayden Pass: An Jeep Adventure to Remember

- In this video we cover the entire trail video from the beginning of the trail at Hayden Creek Campground to the valley on the other side going into Villa Grove Colorado. The trail starts out with loose rocks and hard pack dirt climbing almost 3000 feet over 5 miles with scenic switchbacks and shelf roads. We did the trail while it was dry and I can imagine during or after a heavy rain or snow the trail can be very difficult and in parts dangerous as the embedded rock and steepness of the trail would be challenging. once at the top there is a nice plateau where we ate lunch and on the descent after a few switchbacks it is straight down to the valley floor along a loose rocky road where we felt like we were in a controlled slide at times. The pass was used in the 1800s as a primary east west mining supply route to and from villa grove. Hope you enjoyed the video a cool trail if you get the chance to do it.

Beautiful scenery.
It was really cool
nice video, I liked that you showed the complete route. I'm planning to drive Hayden Pass in early October in my Jeep Wrangler.
Thanks, I appreciate you checking out the channel, your gonna really like that route especially in october! Great views and sights for sure!
Thanks for the great video. Would a full size Ram 1500 truck make it? Would the truck be too wide?
Thanks, the truck is plenty capable, but there are some narrow spots and tight spaces coming up from the campground along the shelf road sections, i think it would make it but it might test your comfort levels, the other issue i can see is traffic, it really would make that a challenge if you meet other vehicles as there are few areas to pass and those that do exist are really tight
Did you air down quite a bit?
Thanks for the question, yes we aired down to 20psi not for traction, but knowing it was rocky, it made all the difference in the ride smoothing out the rough roads but also to make the tires more compliant as they rolled over the sharp rocks, thanks again for checking out the channel
Do you think the east side up to Hayden pass could be done in a stock height f150? I wouldn’t go up or down the west side
From a ground clearance standpoint i think you would be fine coming from the campground as long as you have all terrain tires and you take your time you should be okay, I would air down from street pressure too, the rocks especially up the first grade could be hard on the tires and reducing the air pressure will help keep a tire from being damaged. The trail is tight in areas along the sections that are shelf road like but if you have the stomach for it you can make it, the spot at the top gives plenty of space to turn around and a great place for lunch the views are outstanding
@@FischerJeepAdventures thanks for the reply, I want to find a place to park at the top and hunt for a few days
If the forest service allows parking up top there is definitely plenty of space, I would say you can easily get 10 vehicles spaced out pretty good up there
@@kylekelley7627 did you end up camping & hunting up there? I ask b/c I'm thinking about adding this spot as an option for archery elk hunting.
@@veythach6101no I did not
