I bought my daughter a Kawasaki Z125 a month ago, Kawasaki was offering £500 off if you took the finance option. which took it down to £3700 all the second hand ones I saw that were not as ropey as hell or CAT N, were only about £200 cheaper then I paid for the new one. It did help that she is planning on keeping for two years, until she is old enough to the Direct Access.

picked up a 2013 grom in may this year for £1300, it had been sitting for a while given it only had 750 miles on it, two owners from new - all the service history and paperwork etc - I've replaced the oil, brake fluid, brake lines, pads, spark plug, tires, chain + sprockets and a new battery just general service items really and it has been absolutely spot on! can't fault it!

Some years ago now you made some reviews on the LXR and I trusted your judgment and pulled the trigger a couple of years ago now and bought one "second hand" from super bike factory. It had 300 miles on it the guy clearly dropped it once as there was some scuffs on the bar ends and one small scratch on the body and just panic sold it... 1.5k for a practically brand new bike. Got a new handlebar end for 11 quid a new exhaust of a buddy or 60 does its job so well. Can get them dirt cheap now days just got to be careful with pre-owned stuff obviously. Happy I trusted your judgement and not the "Chinese motorbike" stereotype because it's done me well and next year I do my unrestricted and I'm passing it on down to my younger brother

I bought new lexmoto rss 125 in 23, tft went bust after 2 k miles, ruined my sunday and had to get it replaced. After 4 k miles the engine went bust ,they had to replace the whole engine and i was out of motorcycling for 4 weeks! I will mever buy chinese crap again, however may be I can make an exception for cfmoto but then again you'll lose alot of money when it's time to sell.

@@ZaneRidesBikes damnnnn that’s mad. I’ve had my bike for like 20k miles now never had an issue. One time it got stuck in gear when I come to a quick stop and had to rock it a bit to get it back into first but literally never had an issue with my lxr. It’s treated me really well for the price and all the parts being dirt cheap meant I weren’t too bothered about what if I drop it or anything being my first proper road legal bike. Done me good and looks sick for a 125

That AR125 is awesome and well worth the money. In the early 90's when i had my TZR I had a ride on an AR and it was quick and would definitely see off any of today's 4T 125's. It wasn't as quick or agile as my TZR (full power YPVS) but for a non power valve bike it was fun and on par with the RD125.

One advantage of the 1983 CB125 is that it can be registered as Historic, so no road tax, no MOT and exempt from ULEZ charges in London and other major cities. There should be very little depreciation if it is kept in good condition. Downside is, if it's going to be used by a learner as a daily ride, it's unlikely to stay immaculate.
A friend who is on a CBT has bought a 1994 Honda CG125. It is very basic (kickstart only), but reliable and ideal for a beginner as it only cost a few hundred. As long as you're prepared to do your own maintenance, it's a very cheap way to get started.

I’m 40 and once I realised the prices of 125s I just couldn’t go with the advice. I can buy a Harley sportster for the same price as most 125s! Even though I know I’ll need more DAS training and maybe retest it’s still gonna be cheaper!

Seems like prices are crazy in lots of places, but not everywhere. Just yesterday I saw a 2017 R3 being sold for $4999 in Denver CO, which apparently was the MSRP back in 2017, for a 7 year old bike, that's insane. But I just picked up a super clean 2022 GSX-S1000 with 6800 miles on it for $6600 OTD from a rural area on the other side of the country. Yes, I had to deal with the hassle of shipping and the uncertainty of buying a bike without physically seeing it, but I also figured for the price difference even if the engine was shot I could get the engine from a crashed bike and rebuild it and sell it for more than I had in it if I had to. But no, it's well maintained (dealer serviced with full records) and even had fresh Sportmax Q3+'s on it. So to anyone discouraged by crazy prices, expand your search area, keep looking, and you might just find a deal.

Got my Lexmoto assault 125 new for £2100 in march, I know you shouldn't really buy a new bike for your first bike, but I've been riding off-road for years. You know any used 125 has been dropped and probably had it's internals strained by a learner trying to master the clutch, so I decided to go for a new one, as it was similar money anyway.

Had me a Aprilia RS 125 Extrema (1993) when I was 17, which was 18yrs ago now, I had that bike going 120mph, so realistically about 108mph give or take. Light as anything, looked like a 600 and it was a 2 stroke, by gosh was that bike awesome!!! Yeah I blew it up, twice, but hey it was fun for 5 minutes at least. Downside of Aprilia's, not reliable at all. I did buy a Honda CBR 125 along with it, yeah that bike lasted and had zero problems except crappy electrics, which funny enough seems to be the same problems in todays world. Many of big bikes later, I am now back to the 125 world for city riding, it's just too much of a pain to keep riding big bikes in the city, 125's are just small, nimble, easy, kinda like bicycle essentially. Oddly enough, best small bike I ever rode overall was a Yamaha RX100cc, yeah I don't like it at all, ugly as anything, more of a supermoto person if we are talking 125's but yeah it was the best I've ridden, it's the only small engine that can clutch up without having to yank and pull which was very odd, meanwhile there is 125 supermoto's out here that you have to back peg or dead pull to get the wheel off the floor. My new edition to the family couldn't wheelie to save it's life, poor little 11bhp lexmoto LOL nonetheless it wasn't bought for wheelies, that's what my MT09 does, I need it for going to the shops etc. and to this day I can't get on a twist & go 125 moped, I can't stand them!!! Literally a plastic spaceship! Anyway yeah had a 2 stroke Aprilia, don't recommend 👍

Hi Spicy, I hadn't seen that Peugeot either (10:45), so had a quick look and they're £3000 new, so towards the top end of the budget you were thinking of for new riders, but that's a new bike. I know, depreciation, but that second-hand one wasn't up for much less.
They've got dual channel ABS, 10.2kW (14hp), 11Nm, 6 speed gearbox, and a colour TFT dashboard with basic Bluetooth connectivity and a USB charging port.
Last year I paid more than that for a second-hand (2 previous owners) Honda CB125R, which has the ABS, sightly more power and torque (11kW, 11.6Nm), and is a bit lighter, but doesn't have a colour dashboard, Bluetooth or a USB port.
I'm not regretting my Honda, but I was wondering if you'd think the Peugot would be a reasonable proposition for some learners given its price. Also what about bikes like the Zontes 125-U, which are also £3000 new, and again not much less second-hand, as in the example you showed.

I remember the days when You payed less than a pound per cc for a new bike .BSA bantam around £95 Triumph Tiger Cub,around the £150 mark. The Triumph Tiger 110 cost £300 ish .A Harley Davidson was $1000. What that was worth in pound notes back then I don't know but I do remember seeing the odd one or two around .i baught my first 3 bedroom house for a lot less the price of of of the modern 125's .Obiviousley back then we earned around £40 a week .But do the math we are all being taken for a ride in 2024.If we all didn't buy a new motorcycle (or anything else for that matter ) for a year, just imagin how the prices would plumet .They can only sell us bikes if we are willing to pay the price .if we dont pay the price then the prices will fall will fall. The only decently priced 125 from any of the Japanese brands is the Honda CB125F, just over £3,000. Everything else is upwards of £4K and sometimes approaching £5K. If you're looking for a first bike, you can pick up the aforementioned Honda for less than £2,000 (watch out as some will be write-offs or have some obvious damage even if it's superficial, and will have been ridden by five or six riders who presumably traded them in when they got their full licence). But most modern 125s are liquid cooled and put out close to 15hp, and those are the ones which are expensive new, are thinner on the ground in the secondhand market, and hold their value.

  • @pauls8456
    @pauls8456 4 місяці тому

Those bikes are half that price in Australia….. the CBT artificially keeps those prices high it used to be the same here with 250’s but now learners can ride 650cc so prices are better secondhand for all bikes. PS a new Honda CB125F if less than £2000 on the road.

The bike market is so confusing. Can only assume the 125s are so pricey because they know young people HAVE to buy one if they want to start riding asap ? However, when you consider you can get a decent used R1 for £5-7k, it really is obscene that 125s - 300s are an average of £5k 🤢

I'm planning to pick up a 2022 model (manufactured in 2023) Husqvarna Svartpilen 125. When brand new, you're looking at 5 grand on the dot for this bike, however the one I'm due to look at was first registered in August 2023 and has only had 136 miles put on it. Seller is looking 2,700 for it. Would you say this is a steal? Most other bikes I've seen (for the past few years now) sell around the same price with multiple owners and thousands of miles on the clock usually dating back to around 2013-2015.
Of course you can get the odd rusted up honda cbr125 for around 1200-1600 dating back to early 2000's making them a first gen cbr125, which are certainly dated to say the least. Although, can't complain about Honda's parts they last a long time and are cheap to buy if needing replacing. Nonetheless, I'm thinking it's a smarter option to buy a bike that is practically brand new in all regards, for double the price. Any opinions or advice?

How much is it ? £10 a year. Even the cars that didn't have to pay road tax have to pay £10 same as the electric cars. I've just looked £22 so the same as the lowest band 50-150cc. Still more than double the price it is for a car. What a piss take.

@@chrishart8548 I'm not sure how much it is as I have to wait for my road tax reminder, to find out. but yep all electric vehicles will pay road tax next year. I had to pay my £10 for when I got my electric moped. Welcome to the new order i guess. i bet the minimum will be like £30 road tax, like for 1ltr petrol cars i bet?

I think it won't cost much at all, BUT if they want people on electrics, it's kinda shooting themselves in the foot a little.

@spicy110 if it's the same price for the lowest petrol vehicles and electric it's not really pushing you either way.

I'm in a similar position with my 8 year old diesel car. Up until now, it has been 0 road tax because of low CO2 emissions, but from next year it is going up a class to £25.

Around £9000 for an electric 125? Wtaf?! My GSX-R125 cost just over £5000 brand new. These prices are crazy!

Electric cost more to make, so they cost more to buy.

    • @AMan-JCIL

@@spicy110 True that, but then you gotta think about how many miles you get out of it before you have to recharge the thing and then waiting for it to recharge too. Filling a motorbike up at the petrol station takes 2 minutes, plus petrol engines just sound so much better too. I think we have many years yet before all the kinks are worked out in regards to electric vehicles. They can be good, but there are a lot of downsides to them too because it's still early days with them yet.

Jesus christ. My Honda Zoomer (50cc) brand new just was just shy £2k on the road. But that was back in 2006-7 ish. As was my Husqvarna 125. Just over £2k with 67 miles on the clock. in 2012/13
That Fantic(?) looks identical to the injection Yamaha/Husky 125's. Same exhaust, same engine piping layout, same rims.

Yep 125cc prices seem to be stupidly high then you have the cost of insurance. Riding a motorcycle is becoming less appealing as the years go on its no wonder new riders wont take the jump and buy one. Yes you can buy second hand and get a decent bike but 125s are used and abused most of the times so its a minefield and someone just starting out wont know what they are buying. its probably why Chinese bikes are so popular for the price of a used CBR125 you can buy a new Chinese bike and look "cool" as its on a new plate. I started out on a New SYM Jet x £3300 new 2500 miles and less than 6 months it was traded towards a second hand 22 plate Honda Forza 125cc as it had bigger fuel tank and was faster. My Honda was £4000 and i was given £1650 for the old scooter it took the dealer 2 months to sell it. The Forza is worlds apart and makes me wish i went with this as my first bike from the start but the high price second hand put me off as i was just starting out riding

Ramblings of an old bloke alert. I owned an identicle red CB 125 and a red and black AR 125 in the late 1980s -- great bikes. The Honda is a twin and has a big bike feel and the Kawasaki was fantastic 2-storke fun -- passed my test on it. I think I paid the equivalent of about 2K for them and they were both only a couple of years old at the tme so there were good bikes to be had for decent money back then too.

i definitely wouldn't spend thousands on a Chinese bike you can bet something will break and you won't be able to get parts. I'll always go for a named bike like Honda Suzuki Kawasaki Yamaha because they will always be available for parts.

how can someone justify paying silly money for Chinses / cat N / 125cc - it's meant to be your first bike before getting your licence 👍
first scooter was Chinses 50cc £80 (made £20 profit on it)
second scooter Chinese 125cc £145 (scrapped for £20 😥should of kept it)
third scooter Chinese 125cc £500 - Lexmoto Gladiator (the definition of 💩)
fourth scooter Japanese 125cc £500 - 2007 Suzuki Burgman (insurance write-off due to network rail van knocking into industrial gate that knocked the old girl over / done something to the engine as couple days after the accident she stopped working!)
    fifth scooter Japanese 125cc £1000 - 2011 Honda S-Wing (regretted selling / didn't lose any money)
six motorbike Chinese 125cc £1000 - 2013 Lexmoto Arizona (still have / took me two years to get her registered due to the DVLA + should have 2022 plate as it went the same test as a new vehicle)
seven motorbike Japanese 650cc £1500 - 2008 Suzuki GSX 650f "Bandit in disguise" (still have)
