@Bradley9967 No, not from authority but from experience. Rickson and Henry have much more experience than you or I do, and I've been doing this stuff for 20 years.
@kingwilly8041 Like it not you were making an argument from authority. Just because you are experienced doesn't mean that you're correct. You can also be experienced at doing the wrong thing. You have been doing this for 20 years. I expect a bit more humility being open to the fact that new things arise all the time. I was going off of the work of Prit Mikhelson, who specialises in defensive bjj. If you would look up a move called the hawking, you'll see what I mean. My coach showed a bread cutter choke when I made the same comment about the shoulder. He was quite dismissive, then I told him to try it on me. Nowadays he takes what I say with far more weight.
@@Bradley9967 I have authority on this matter BECAUSE I have experience. This is not the same as someone sharing an opinion on an irrelevant subject and it being automatically assumed valid simply because that person holds a position of authority in a non-related subject. Doctors have authority when it comes to health because of their training and experience. Seasoned mechanics have authority because of their training and the experience of working on hundreds. if not thousands, of automobiles. Are you going to ask a mechanic to explain nuclear physics to you? Of course not. What are you training for? Are you training just to not get submitted in training/tournaments? Self defense? Defense is one of the aspects of my game I pride myself on and I wouldn't use what Priit is showing. I'm basing this on the video I saw of him rolling with Jordan Teaches Jiu-jitsu. Here is more of your boy in action: ua-cam.com/video/UcVFhIhUzmQ/v-deo.html. Notice he still lost the match and didn't accomplish the goal of winning. You know why he lost on points? It is because BJJ awards points when you attain positions you can attack someone effectively with strikes. This Priit guy would get his face pummeled using that stuff for self defense. He'd also get destroyed using it in sparring against bigger and stronger men without strikes so I wouldn't waste my time on it. Why? It relies too much on hand fighting. FYI, Saulo Ribeiro taught a (better) version of "The Hawking" on his videos which he called, "The Running Escape." I know Priit explained the difference between them but it is still a hard "no" on if I'd train it. Yes, new things arise all of the time but a lot of it is garbage even though someone can even have a little success with something. However, there is a reason the saying, "It has withstood the test of time," exists. You will be able to weed out the garbage from the real techniques anyone can use when you get more experience. P.S. Please point me to a video showing what you told your coach about the paper cutter choke where he didn't believe you (I have a lot of experience with is particular choke). What is his belt rank and/or how long has he been training? Thanks.
Beautiful, it's the small details that make Jiu Jitsu work. Great video!
Lever of the forearm. I love biomechanics!
If he gets a shoulder up, he can release that pressure and keep his hands low.
Did you get your black belt from Rickson before or after Henry did?
@kingwilly8041 You're making an argument from authority. It's a form of logical fallacy.
