Brock, you are awesome v-blogger, very natural style and interesting content. Stand looks solid and knowing the material - oak - should withstand years of heavy use. Make sure to coat it in several layers and add-coat once a year or two. I'm positively-jealous you have dad to share these moments together!

Howdy Brock! That is going to be one sturdy stand that should last you the lifetime of the saw... or dang near to it anyway. As my buddy (who has probably doubled the weight of his house with solid oak everything) would say... 'Strong enough for elephants to hump on' lol! Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

That oak is definitely at least three times as strong as the same dimension of pine.
You can hardly run a screw through it.

nicely done, Brock and dad 😀 you didn't say whether you were going to through bolt the legs to the beams, but you might want to at least consider doing that; sometimes even dry wood wants to twist and warp abit when out in the sunshine and if it wants to those screws won't stop it but through bolts would

My initial thought was to just set it up on the ground and mill lumber to build a stand out of.
@@RockhillfarmYT It's set on a temporary base that I pieced together with stuff I had laying around. I had an old dock section that fit the sawmill perfectly, so I set that on some equally spaced 2x4's to keep it off the ground. After that was level, I put two long 4x6 beams down and toenailed them in place. I set the sawmill on that. It's been working perfectly, and after the first month the mill stayed level. Hopefully I'll get a more permanent setup this summer if the snow ever melts! With 50's and 60's forecast for next week, I imagine that won't be long from now.

I almost bought tubing to try to build a solid steel frame under it, so it never flexes
Looks good... if it were me I might have added x bracing at the ends but then it's also harder to clean up sawdust.
That’s what I’m still debating. Maybe adding some x braces
On the tabel saw you have to take a little then go a little deeper next pass. Takes a few passes but doesnt kill the saw or pop the breaker. In the future you can just rip with the mill, thats what i do.
Exactly right. We actually talked about setting the Sawmill up first and ripping that whole stack of two boys on it, but probably would’ve taken longer to get it level and then move it again.

Yes. The sawmill will set on this platform so I’m not bending down to work

Great looking base - nice that the mill's frame will tie in the two rails neatly, and allow for cleaning out under the mill perfectly. Question for ya' - that Dewalt driver drill, is that a 1/4" impact? or drill only? (Shopping for one, lol)
We were running screws with the quarter inch impact driver and drilling the holes with a regular cordless drill. Back when we were manufacturing and using these drills all day every day, I was really happy with the way the Dewalt tools held up.

I do really like John Deere, but some of the other brands are tempting when they make a capable machine that cost a lot less
As a consumer, you have to decide if you think they’re going to provide good parts and support down the road
Why wouldn't you use 5in GRK screws?
On a lot of it, I was attaching 2 boards together that were 2 inch thick so even 4 inch would’ve poked through the other side.

The recessed holes that Brock drilled and called "countersinks" are actually called counterbores, aren't they? My understanding is that a countersink has a tapered opening to allow a tapered screw head to sit flush with the surface.

True. Countersink has tapered walls where as a counterbore has straight walls. But it looked like he used a regular drill bit and not a spade or pocket hole bit we might call it a counterbore-sink. 😁
