I fugired it out. First you have to download dem from usgs. Then download same image from google earth. Then geo reference it. Then you can merge them two together
Hi Jan Pacina, question: at the beginning of your video you start with point data from the Grand Canyon. Where did you obtain this data to create this layer?
Hi. These data are from the SRTM downloaded at USGS explorer website. You get raster files from the site, but I have used the Raster to Point function (ArcGIS) to export the points.
After exporting Basemap, have you georeferenced the JPEG file, or it is georeferenced? Because in my study area when I export it, it doesn't have a geotag, and also even when I assign a coordinate system to it in ArcCatalog, it doesn't accept it. I think we are not allowed to georeference the base-maps in that way. Maybe you have georeferenced the image using Georeferencing tool and control points.
The basemap is geo-referenced by web Mercator. so you can convert it to any suitable referencing system based on your demand using project raster. or you can project your vector data to web mercator
@@MahmudulHasan-zc5qo Hi can you give more details on the exported Basemap? I think it is lacking tutorial in this side because it is not working when basemaps imported to arcScence. FYI. Thanks
@@MahmudulHasan-zc5qo Assalamu Alaikum vai. Can you please give any suggestion regarding the problem? After loading the imagery or topography image on arcScene, it doesn't work the way it was supposed to be....How to solve this?
Hi Jan, could you pls tell me how did you get elevation data (05:39)? I created points cloud by using fishnet method but I couldn't find elevation information?
Hi there - the data are natively in GRID format - I use the "Raster to point" function in ArcGIS to convert the grid to points. The grid (elevation) values are then transformed automatically to the point feature attribute table (GRIDCODE)
Hi Jan, thanks for sharing this video, and it really helped me a lot. Maybe you can do me a favor to solve my problem at about 29:20 of the video: after inputting dem file with new raster into ArcScene, the background jpg disappeared in my case. I followed every step of the video and repeated for several times, but the same error was still there. Thank you in advance!
this video is useless, i came to here to see how to import DEM in to GIS, but you started the video by skipping this part. at the beginning of your video you start with point data from the Grand Canyon. Where did you obtain this data to create this layer?

where can you get the point data of an area you've used?
Sir may you please help me understand. In what format was the Grand_Canyon file. Was it a shape file?
yes you can see it at 0:48

i think the problem is that Elevation value is too big to the date dis disappear.
This happened to me too, do you find the solution ?
I bet you are right. This happened to me using Mt Rainer.

Hi,could you introdues me new method extraction sinkhole from DEM please?
sorry but im an architect student and im working on area i know, but what is mercator file and how to make one ? thank you
You have to project your data - the USGS data are in WGS84 -> in ArcMap function Project
