Why so many links in video descriptions? Affiliate links are how I invest money back into the channel for equipment, gear and trips. By clicking on these links and doing the same shopping you'd be doing anyway, I get a small kickback from the sale. This is the best way to support the content I create with no cost to you. Thank you!
Just a FYI for anyone looking at the Cnoc bags. If you want to use with Sawyer make sure to get the 28mm top. I just mistakenly purchased a bag and didn’t realize it was 42mm which is Befree compatible not Sawyer compatible. Great vid!
thx
befree compatible thanks LOL needed that
Haha. I have to say that I wish people would stop saying "super" this or "super" that (as in "super" lightweight). It's much more informative to specify the exact weight, of course. I just adopted this Sawyer Micro Squeeze filter for my ultra-minimalist pocket backcountry kit. It's super rad. ;-) Many thanks.
Great system you have there! I just bought the Micro Squeeze for my bug out bag and might use your system. Thanks for the video!
Ok, now I’m excited to get my micro squeeze.
Time will tell how it performs long long term. But so far, I love it.
About pinhole leaks with the CNOC bag - or any TPU bag. Since they are strong but not indestructible - I did a search on this and I guess you can use the same self adhesive TPU patches used for things like inflatable kayaks, air beds or swimming pools. I might start carrying a couple in my pack. Don't want to lose your water in the desert southwest.
Yes it works. I had a puncture on an Hydrapak (more or less same material I presume), and a Topeak glueless patch for bicycle tubes works perfectly and permanently
Love the micro squeeze & cnoc although only use a cnoc for the dirty water, the easy fill slider I think is the real game changer. In my opinion no need for a slider on the clean water end so I just use a 1ltr standard water bottle. The 1st thing I do on arriving on site is squeeze off enough for a brew, the cnoc easily takes my weight so I literally sit on it to process the water whilst I'm setting up my trangia triangle (another fantastic bit of kit for backpacking). From then on I tie it to a tree for gravity filtration into 1ltr bottles. So basically I've got à brew within 10 min of landing at camp and enough water filtered by gravity for cooking etc by the time I've the rest of the camp. As you mentioned, the supplied bladder was pretty much useless, felt cheap and failed on 1st or second use, sawyer would do well coming up with a deal with cnoc
Shoe goo should fix your pin hole problem also good to fix thermarest sleepong pads
Awesome knowledge Devin and what a great system you have there. I like the additional drops just in case the water seems a bit rank or dirty. I was thinking about leaving Sawyer because those refill bags are garbage... those duel ended flex bags are the "Game Changer" in this video :) Awesome intel, thanks for passing it along.
Kevin! So great to see you comment! The Vecto is awesome.
I guess that answers that question about the flow rate vs the Hydroblue. I'm going to order one and add it to my kit for next season.
I've just purchased the same system, just seems very simple and quick. Looking forward to trying it out. Great video.
Great tip for the gravity system, thanks!
CNOC bags are next on my gear list.
I've just loved mine. Such a huge upgrade from the Sawyer bags.
Love this! Does the coupler come with the micro squeeze? I’m pretty interested in this because I like using a hose and bladder system. And I’ve been looking at the cnoc and mini combo for this. But those seems even better and more versatile! Great vid again bro!
The coupler does come with the Micro, and instead of the dinky 16 oz bag, they give you a 32 oz bag in the kit. Give it a try. See how it works for you.
I like those new bags, I will have to try a few out, they look a bit more elastic than the Sawyer ones.
They are made from like a tpu plastic and they are strong. Sawyer has updated their bags slightly with a softer material, but the Vecto is still better IMO.
They're so much better than the crinkly Sawyer bags
Didn't know they upgraded the Sawyer bags though
Awesome video as usual. Since the Aquamira drops are a standalone system, meaning it will purify unfiltered water and could be seen as overkill for water already put thru the Sawyer Micro, I would also consider MSR sweetwater drops, which is basically chlorine. It was intended to be used with the MSR sweetwater pump filter system.
I am using the Katadyn BeFree. This thing flows like nothing I have ever used and clean up could not be easier. Give it a look.
I've thought about it. My only beef is the thread size. It's too far from standard for me to get on board. But maybe I need to give it an honest look before I really make up my mind.
I flip between the CNOC bags with a full size squeeze and the BeFree with a 3L Hydrapak "bottle". Filling the vecto bags is awesome (after they worked out the kinks on the first batch that leaked like crazy) but the flow rate on the BeFree is sooo nice...
Yeah the first batch was iffy, but glad to see the company act on that quick and make the necessary fixes. They were responsive to my pin hole leak too and offered me a discount on the 3L bag for the trouble. Nice to save a little bit.
@@BackcountryExposure They replaced mine as well once they had new ones in with the better seal. Its great to see a small company stand behind their products so well.
I use the same set up. Except with one cnoc bag and one evernew bag. I carry tablets as backup.
Please, what is the weight of the micro squeeze without that top (the one to drink from)? I have it and I'm on a hiking trip. I want to recalculate my base weight, but I've forgotten to weigh just the filter, without any attachments. Thank you!
The Sawyer squeeze bottle that came with it rupture, big cuts! Even though I was careful.
I'm using it with two bottles (like the smart ones). I've punctured a pinhole on the one for the dirt water, so air can escape.
So, my system is dirt bottle, micro squeeze, blue coupling ring, clean bottle.
After every use, I back flush just using the clean bottle with the blue coupling ring. Easy and it works well.
I'm impressed with the CNOC bags so far. Couple complains but nothing too major but the hole in your makes me worried already.
Outdoor Adventures yeah and I have no idea how it got there, so I don’t know any cause.
When you let me take out the S1 to try I loved it! Glad that they are selling it separately now!
Awesome setup. Great idea! What brand is that little yellow bag you store it all in? Looking for something like this setup for my next outing. Thanks!
I use the same system i just watched this video to make myself smile 😁 as like you, I think this system is great with very little to go wrong 🤞 thanks for the upload my only beef is the price of the CNOC (2019 version) bags in the UK £25.00 each so just the two bags cost me a fortune, but still a great system👍
Nice use of the CNOC color combo on the gravity system.
Quick question on the aquamira: what advantage does it have over something like Potable Aqua tablets? Seems like stage tabs would be easier to handle.
Hey man. Good video. Any update or are you still rocking this system? Have you had any issues with it?
Still no response...🤣
Were are you getting the cnoc vector bags?
Been using the Be Free this year over the Sawyer mini for the flow rate and have been really happy with it. One thing that’s annoying is, you can’t buy replacement bags without a filter as far as I’ve found. I’m pretty intrigued about this new Micro and everything I’ve heard is positive so far. I have the Cnoc carbon poles (awesome) and have been meaning to grab some of their bags too. They’re a relatively new name in backpacking but they’re certainly paying attention and putting out some stellar stuff
m l thought the same thing but had heard of bags you can use. The bag is a HydraPak (check the back side of your Be Free) Seeker and comes in 2, 3 and 4 liter sizes. Available through REI and possibly others. Still no mention of using with the filter but sintax 77 has a video posted dealing with this issue. Hopefully not too late - just saw this post.
Sportsman warehouse sells them.
I'm still using the Sawyer mini. At first I changed from the Sawyer Bags to the Evernew Bags... then the CNOC bags came out. Now I'm rocking those... haven't had too much use on them, so no leaks yet. I'm not impressed with the Sawyer Mini flow rate... thinking of changing to the Micro. Do you have to use the blue adapter? Not sure, but I probably have one of those already (I bought a kit one time, and I'm pretty sure that adapter was a part of that kit). The CNOC bags were unavailable for a while there... glad they are running higher production now. The convenience of the wide opening, and the pliable material is so much better. Let us know how you fix that pin hole leak please.
That new 3 liter bag will be awesome!
You certainly do not have to use the blue adapter, but it makes it convenient. As you saw in the video, I only use the blue adapter when doing gravity filling or I am filling by squeezing my clean water bag. Yeah, I gotta look into the best way to fix that leak. I'll share in the community tab here when I figure that out.
Does the coupler come with the bags or sold separately? Also how do you drink the water once you filter it into a bag? Straight from the bag, transferred to a bottle, or with a tube like a camleback?
Have you tried the new Gorilla Tape that is all weather? That may work great with a pinhole in your bag.. Well I reckon it depends on where the pinhole is.. I've used it on several things and it seems to work better than the original Gorilla Tape and it's a lot thicker...
So im guessing your back to this system now that the hydroblu failed?
Titan inc Outdoors correct. Back to the micro since I have it available rather than let it sit. Will be ordering another versaflow at some point though. Likely for spring trips.
@@BackcountryExposure just did my review for the versa flow. Ended up being faster than the micro but you werent kidding about the tightness on the smart bottles. I now understand how you broke yours
Titan inc Outdoors I’ll go check it out
@@BackcountryExposure that would be awesome thanks man.
Can you use Platypus bags instead?
Do you flush after every single time you filter water?
How's the Sawyer micro holding up after some time has passed, is the flowrate still as good?
Ryan Sc less impressed, but still does a good job. I’ve actually switched to the Hydroblu Versaflow as a main filter as of late.
@@BackcountryExposure Thank you for the reply, that's good to know. I've kind of heard the micro flowrate drops off pretty quick. I currently use the OG squeeze with a Cnoc dirty bag gravity fed to a Smart Water bottle, and I've enjoyed that setup similar to what you mentioned in the video. But I was thinking of getting a backup filter for a bug out Go Bag, but have concerns of it clogging with a family of 4 using the micro to filter.
What is the name of the bags
I'm considering the cnoc bags for myself but have seen a few videos and reviews where folks say they leak from the folded side. Have you had any such problems and are your bottles a "new and improved" version?
madhacker7 new and improved and they have been awesome. Best bag I’ve used to date.
How long does the CNOC/Micro combo take to gravity feed 2L?
I used a Pur (Katadyn) Hiker for years, then switched to an MSR Trailshot. Despite scrupulously following the instructions, my Trailshot flow rate went down the tubes on its first excursion. I found out later that hard water is death to hollow fiber filters and my tap water at home is crazy hard. Whoops.
Thanks for the great vid, I think I'm sold on the CNOC/Micro combo. I'll just be sure to used bottled water for home cleaning :)
I haven't done a test on this with the Micro yet. But I can say you're right about hard water and the CNOC/Micro is a great combo.
@@BackcountryExposure Thanks for your great review. I am also curious about the flow rate of the CNOC/micro combo - I guess the difference should be more significant in a gravity setup compared with the squeeze.
takes a few years
I don't care for your modification for backflushing. I much prefer the bulky syringe so I can FORCEFULLY PRESSURE backflush. I backflush immediately AFTER each use, I want to flush out contaminants B4 they can permanently attach themselves to the outside walls of the filter fibers. I don't believe with your "hack" you are able to generate the backflush PRESSURE that is sufficient to remove the small contaminants. I've subscribed & suspect with time you're going to find the Sawyer Mini filtered water flow will become harder & slower because of inadequate/insufficient backflush PRESSURE. This is merely my opinion.
I use a green 5/16" SCREW PROTECTOR that I bought from Home Depot to cap the input nipple.
I carry a 1 QT FREEZER ziplock baggie, as is, as a means to gather water from a lil trickle from a melting snowpack then pour that water into my platypus or Sawyer bag & start filtering.
I'm unable to see any advantage with the CNOC bags which seem like unnecessary accessories. A 1QT FREEZER baggie + the Sawyer or Platypus bags are all that is necessary/required.
So how to you carry the bags in your pack when they are full??
I use a carabiner and clip it to the outside of my bag.
Can you buy the micro as a stand alone product and if so where can you get it ?
they sell them now
Who makes that little green zip sack?
DrySwampHuntClub I sewed the bag myself. Just used the rip stop by the roll zpp kit and shrunk it down.
Does that blue adapter come with the Micro?? or extra cost?
comes with it
@@pgreenx Thank you!
Have you tested Katadyn Befree?
Not yet
I just ordered this from Amazon and it came in the mail today, but it was missing the filter.. LoL.. What?
TheBald1 did you order the bag? These items are all sold separately by different companies
@@BackcountryExposure No I ordered the 4 piece water filter kit that came with the bag, filter, plunger and a straw... I've called them and they're sending me a new kit out tomorrow.... But I do have a question for you. Have you tried the Sawyer Dual Threaded mini filter? They have it on Amazon now for $25 and I was just wondering is it worth it
@@BackcountryExposure This is what I ordered..
Sawyer sp128 mini water filtration system, single, blue and it was $19.97
What brand is that small green zipper bag?
bma04ltng I made it myself. So it’s a DIY bag. But got the fabric and stuff from ripstop by the roll.
@@BackcountryExposure Thanks! Can you share how you made it?
bma04ltng it’s from the ZPP kit from ripstop by the roll. I have a video in my list of videos that’s a tutorial
Ugh. I can't keep up with everyone. I used a Katadyn Hiker pro water pump but then everyone said get the squeeze. Now I have a squeeze and everyone is saying get different bags for it. Then I get the bags, and now people are switching to the befree or sawyer micro. I need to stop watching videos. Ya'lll change things up too quickly ;-)
Arcana73 ha ha ha ha. You do you! That’s all you need to worry about.
LoL. “Can’t keep up with it all,” try joining reddit or something--helps me stay current,...
Or, you can do what I do. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sales and marketing folks are always telling us that they have a better mouse trap. If the trap I have works for me and I already have a backup, why do I need the latest "new and improved"? Boils down to defining our individual "wants" vs actual "needs". :-)
I thought that bag was supposed to be super tough
Seriously? at 4:40 you talk about and demo how the top of the vecto opens but you cover it with B-roll.
Joe okay, but the B-roll shows the wide opening and how quickly/easily it fills with water... 🤔
@@BackcountryExposure I was hoping to see it close up. I just went to your other video about the vecto.
pinholes render this bag worthless
