    I need to get some Dimond stones. Been using the worksharp setup. Works great. But would like to get a natural feel for sharpening. Thanks for sharing. From NM stay safe and stay blessed my friend. 👍🇺🇸🤙🇺🇸✌️

      Plates will feel similar to your worksharp stuff just without guides.

    I have one of the Xtra Xtra fine plates and it does great for a finishing stone before stroping

      There used to be 2 Xtra Xtra fine dmts. Medium extra was 4000, the xx fine was 8000. No idea if they are still available.

      Only the extra fine is there. But stropping after 1200 is fine.

    Diamond plates are definitely the way to go for my knives. I just need to learn to hand sharpen first. 😁

      Sharpie the edge of your blade and use that to see your degree you are holding

      @@allthingsknives Yep, I’ve done that with the Worksharp Precision Adjust system I have, so I know it’s a great little trick. Just have to try it with hand sharpening next. I’ll get there, and it won’t take long.

    I'm starting to see the appeal of the diamond plates! Do you feel like there's much quality variation between DMT and others?
    Some people do an accelerated break-in to remove the less-well-attached grains by rubbing something like a chisel back or plane iron over the plate.

    • @knickly
      @knickly Рік тому

      Also, I probably mention them all the time, but a resin-bonded USA-made alternative to Venev is CGSW!

      I think the DMT are better than the worksharp plates

    I like diamond plate sharpening the best for all around. But I do use veneev stones and spyderco ceramic stones too. Do you use diamond plate for most of your sharpening?

    Great review. I have the 320 in 8x3 for doing serious repair or reprofiling. I've had my eye on those 2 sides 6x2 for a while. How much do they weigh? I was thinking of getting the fin/ultrafine for a travel stone.

    • @allthingsknives
      @allthingsknives  11 місяців тому

      I make my own strops the denims ones I have are from ChefsKnivestogo.com or from sharpening supplies. The compounds are either from CKTG or Gunny Juice.

    I'm trying to figure it out, but no one really tells it out loud, are the diamonds just on the surface or do the go deep into the metal?

    • @allthingsknives
      @allthingsknives  Рік тому

      On the surface it’s steel that’s plated with nickel to plate the diamonds on there

    • @jensebu78
      @jensebu78 Рік тому

      I don't think they are fake, i think that people which are not familiar with diamond plates use them wrong.Inbreking is important and no pressure. You can damage them for sure. Some are not aware of that the feeling from the first uses and later is different and they think that the plates are done quickly. But they are not. But DMT might have (had?) a quality issue sometimes , from what i read...
