A gentleman and forever a scholar. An Aussie of great renown - I have collected his records (78s) for years - believe me I have quite a few which I've uploaded. Now and again I have the hankering to listen to this guy and just reminisce of times gone by. It's so easy now - you simply log in to UA-cam and listen. The boon of modern technology. Welcome to my Channel whoever you are.
When I was in Sydney in 1998, I made my way to the Necropolis to find Dawson’s grave. He had given me such pleasure over the years that it was something I had to do.
One of my all time favorite songs. This version is the best I've heard yet. Had a 78 from a different artist, I don't remember who. Played it to death as a kid.
Wish that they would play this version at Melbourne Cup and other occasions instead of those godawful wailing versions by pop singers which one has to turn off because they are so absolutely frightful.
I thank you for your input - stay tuned - record is still in my collection and I intend to do it again for an upload to UA-cam with my upgraded system.

He's my uncle
Wonderful rendition of a fantastic song.
There's no one that can sing this song better.

The best copy of this record I have - and to be honest I haven't come across any other copy - yet.
Tears welling up .
I'll be pulling this soon Kevin. I've uploaded an improved version here:

@@WhisperedDreams951 I like the sound of this version for it originality .But its your video .
Great voice!
Excellent!
I think Dawson's cover of Waltzing Matilda is the best one out there
So do I! It is an honest interpretation sung as only the great Peter Dawson could do it.
Almost any song sung by Peter Dawson sounds as the best version. There's just that old British-English kick to his versions from the bygone era.
It is. Dawson sings the way men used to sing back in the old Imperial Britain days. Not like the crap sung today.
100% the best version, i found it on a music archive channel called "ingen" but it had no credits or anything
lovely song
This may the best version of the song, even better than the Burl Ives version, which for decades I considered the most definitive version of the song
Wish that they would play this version at Melbourne Cup and other occasions instead of those godawful wailing versions by pop singers which one has to turn off because they are so absolutely frightful.
Well said and I agree 100%
Just perfect, in spite of the surface noise.

I think the surface noise gives it it's authenticity.
❤❤❤❤❤
Would be good to hear on " 78 Restoration " equipment. No rain noise
pretty
Do you have his "The Floral Dance" with piano accompaniment? I have been looking that version for years and will be glad if you can post that.
Sorry for the late reply - I do possess this 1927 record with Gerald Moore at the piano - and will upload it.
@@WhisperedDreams951 Thank you 😊💐!!
People got arrested for celebrating Australia day and singing this song
