The South African Union Sixpence (6D).

The South African Union Sixpence or 6D was minted from 1923 until 1960. It's a beautiful coin, 16.3mm in diameter. The unique 1928 sixpence deserves a special mention (fetching R1.133 million in the last auction). The 1931 6D is also extremely valuable and close so unobtainable. This video also gives a quick intro on the entire series so the sixpence is placed into context with the other coins.

I love pennies. The 1945 union penny features King George VI on the obverse and the Dromedaris ship on the reverse. A total of 4,809,723 were minted of which 150 were proof. 95% copper. It's fairly common. An uncirculated specimen could reach about R500, but if their value drops quickly in poorer condition (well worn specimens would go for about R20). I own a graded MS63 and in that condition it's worth around R1000. So the condition of the coin is critical.

Very nice! There were 290,593 minted (so not very much) and in uncirculated worth around R500-R1000. If it's well worn around R100 at least.
