Ok, yes! You have all told me, extensively! There's an issue with the look of the video, but I don't want to re-upload and I can't fix it now it's here. There's no issue with any of my subsequent videos. This was an issue caused by using two different cameras running different frame rates. One 24, one 25, either way I was gunna be wrong, but I'd already sold the damn guitar so couldn't re-shoot it. My bad, consider myself told off, now please stop bloody telling me. Thank you kindly, Ben.

I thought it was made on purpose. I like the glitched frames. It's cool. Thank you on the insight on ce22.

Awesome last name brotha! I watched this video when I bought my 03 PRS CE22. Just found it again having just bought an 01 CE24 today. I’m completely sold on the older PRS CE guitars. They’re timeless monsters

Haha! Your 1st name is cooler than mine though! PRS make some lovely guitars, although this one wasn't for me. It recorded well but I'm more at home on something Gibson whenever I play live. I think I've just gotten used to them. Some sweet tracks on your channel by the way mate, I had listen. Nice work.

Owning an PRS CE22 from 1995 - for a PRS its simple looking but i had the luck to get one of those years with Dragon 1 humbuckers which i really love. Seems to be way better than Dragon 2 ones... Totally agree on the Phase 1 Locking. Was a good idea but getting used to it is kinda hard. Always feels like doing it wrong. Over all a absolutely great guitar - kinda core like but simpler and waaaaay cheaper.

I have both older and newer models. The older ones blow away the newer ones. Think older ones are more core like and newer ones more like an S2 or SE.

Great jam! Agreed on the phase 1 locking tuners with the wing lock though..ugh. The later ones are a major improvement (Sperzel or EBMM type are still easier to handle though!) However! Yes the original CE is a far superior instrument, not that the newer version is a bad guitar, it's a very nice instrument, but the cheaper bridge on a guitar that still costs 2k (US) is not really appropriate to me. You can get an original CE for 60% of the price of a new one, and a used core Custom is still less and can be found for $1500-1600 USD in great condition. I'm also really not a fan of the "squabbins" on the newer pickups, I was hoping they'd have gone the way of the '08 birds by now...they may sound good but I'd swap 'em immediately just on how they look alone! Great video on one of my favorite guitars.

Nice playing and good review, I have a newer model 2006 so unsure of the differences , very happy with it but I agree the rotary switch is very annoying and doesn’t make sense as you mentioned. Replaced the tuners with hip shots as the tuners weren’t for me. I also found the neck to be quite heavily lacquered so I have sanded it down and now feels much easier to play. The dragon 2 pickups also seem to get a lot of bad press but I have no issues. Thanks again liked and subscribed

    • @BenFletcherGuitar

Thanks, man! I think maybe if you didn't play anything else you'd probably get used to the rotary switch, but I flick between pickups a lot and only owned this guitar for a short period of time, so found it quite frustrating. The tuners are interesting too aren't they? I'd never watched a video on how to change strings before...

    • @ianandy1234

I put a chicken-head knob on my 1994 CE24 rotary and I've gigged it that way for twenty-five years. It's on its second re-fret now and the wing tuners are utterly worn out and about to be replaced with modified Schaller M6's.

my personal view is that the newer ones are more enjoyable to play with the shallower carve. Arm and wrist positioning just feel more comfortable. This is of course my personal feeling and is based on how my new 3 ce's feel in relation to my 01 custom 22. I'm also going to assume they are slightly lighter which for someone with a wrecked back like my self is a bonus. if i want weight and pain i use my LPs 😂. great video man

That's what I did has well with mine & added a Push/Pull. To me it made a world of difference in the sound just setting it up for a standard LP style switching of HB/HB with standard coil split. Before that I was ready to sell it. I hated the rotary & the sound of how they had the pickups set in that era.

Nice playing and cool guitar. I was thinking of buying an old one but ended up getting brand new ce... well used new one 2019 limited addition mint condition for $1,300... so couldn't pass up. Plus the new pickups, tuners, and cherry satin burst paint with nitro finish sold me. I'm not sure if the old ones have coil tapping??? If not that would be something that would be greatly missed...as the coil split sounds on the new one sound really exceptional for not being true single coil... and give you way more tonal options. If you buy a used old one for let's say $1,000 and have to pay for New pickups, new locking tuners, and coil split capabilities...plus nitro finish you could have bought a new ce. The old one has cool carve on top and thicker maple cap...but wierd switching. The old one is beautiful for sure...but one could argue that not having nitro finish on the older model will impact your tone as much as a slightly thicker maple cap. I truly think your guitar is beautiful though...and your playing is outstanding. I think to say the older ce sounds better than the new one is not valid without a true side by side comparison... but I would like to do that myself to really hear. I can always change the Korean bridge on mine to brass one for much cheaper than swapping the tuners and pickups...

Thanks man! I actually traded this guitar for the Les Paul in this video. The CE was just too bright for me. Plus although I dabble with some rock style stuff, I'm more roots orientated most of the time, playing slide etc and the Paul is just more of what I want to hear. Yes, I wanted to play two CE's side by side, but I didn't own it for long enough! I've never traded an instrument that fast before, but I knew it wasn't for me and that Paul was a good opportunity. Anyway, sounds like you got a bargain. I wasn't aware the old ones weren't Nitro, that's interesting. They do have coil tap facility on the old ones, but since it was the worlds brightest guitar already, I didn't use it! They have also improved the coil tapping in newer models. They do it in a different way, where you loose less volume, so if you like the coil split feature, you're on a winner with the new model for sure. Thanks for the comment, mate. Ben.

Thanks for reply. I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio too with burst bucker pros. And it sounds really good. It is actually brighter sounding than my prs ce. It also is more bassy... like my prs 245. I am really liking the CE because it is not quite as bassy... and because of the newer coil splitting sound. I've never tried the old CE model like you had... but really like the sound of the new one with 85/15s... probably more than my Gibson... especially in overdrive. And because it stays in tune better. But the Gibson definitely has its place and character that you can't replace... especially for blues rock twang... and low end growl. I'll probably keep both. I have American standard strat too but never play it. Again great video... Thanks for sharing!

I have a chance to trade 1,500-1,800$ of pedals for a PRS SE 22 1998, sunburst, Dragon 2 pickups, no bird inlays. I've always only played Fender styled guitars but want a comfortable-do-it-all guitar. After having my first Strat since I was 15 I've been enjoying bigger frets and so the wide thin neck seems appealing. Everything I have is vintage, a little thicker.Having never played a PRS, is there anything you can tell me or warn me about them? I ;play everything from blues to punk to Jazz to ambient stuff, usually playing through a DR Z Max 18 and a UA Ox Box. Thanks!
