If there are too many rosters in your flock. You will never have a peaceful flock. The rosters will fight and harass the hens. One male to 6 or 8 hens, if I remember correctly. The extra rosters need to go to freezer camp.
We have one rooster for 19 hens in our main flock which is too many for him so we will make the flock have 2 or 3 (there are more females) The other roosters will all have at least 8-14 hens each but they are not old enough to go with the roos yet)
Great roost , I think you probably worried a bit too much about it being level though. You have to remember that after a week or so of use its going to be covered in chicken crap lol. As long as its srturdy enough to hold them the chickens aren't going to complain if its not level lol. But seriously I do understand, OCD is a pain
We made our roost out of tree limbs! A place to rest and defecate!
We made one out of trees last year and they didn't like it so we are trying something different this time.
Lol! You guys build the same way we do. No plans, just looking and figuring out as you go. Too funny that Nate checked the level after you told him it was ok. 🤣
He likes things to be precise.
I don't the the chickens will care if it's level or not.
I agree, they won't. But I will. 😊
TREMENDOUS VIDEO, VERY GOOD JOB THE MOST THING I LIKE IS HOW UNITED YOU ARE 🙏
GOD BLESS YOU 🙏👍💪♥️
I noticed in Katie’s trike video, that u guys moved the RV into the shade. Hope that makes it cooler for u inside the RV. Love watching your videos. U two r so cute together!!
It’s 8:30pm here in Hawaii - it’s 75 degrees with 81% humidity…. Chuckled several times as you built the roost- sounds like my hubby and me working on our projects😁‼️. Love watching as you work on your projects.
Who knew there was so much to calculate making perches. Learn something new every day.
Lol there isn't usually
It shouldn't be so involved but this is a great glimpse into how we communicate and build things from an idea in our head, lol
@@TheKraemerLife cool!
Oh my ... This is a Little frustrating to whatch. But keep up the good work ❤
What a great roost that turned out to be - Those hens will be very happy in there - its very spacious too.
Its exciting to see their different charachters emerging. Although there always seems to be one that picks on another poor chook. Oh, and that poor hen getting passed around by all the other young roosters 🙄🙄🙄 - no wonder she was exhaused and screeming, poor thing! They are all beautiful large birds though and so healthy looking👍🏻.
I love them being so clucky and looking after their chicks. They are good mommas! I could watch them all day.
Must say, I am so taken with the gooselings in particuallar - I just adore them. Fancy them walking down to the creek and back with you and your visiters, showed in the other video😄😄😄 That was just so cute, well beyond words. You have now officially been adopted as gooslings parents from them 😄😄. That was precious.
So now when you take your walks, they can accompany you and the dogs 😄😄😄 They are very protective. They are just beautiful!
I didnt know you spoke German Nate - had to chuckle as I heard a word escape there lol.
Its nice how you both sit around outside and just talk, then casually go about your chores, everything is so natural, its so nice. We have no expectations - we just love to see how everything is coming along, all the animals, whats happening, even if nothing happens, thats fine too. Thats life - You are also living a dream that many would have liked to of done perhaps. Nothing is easy. We are so grateful for you allowing us to share how your lives are.
See you tomorrow! Good night! 💕
I see why that house isn't finished yet. Sometimes you just got to go for and cut something wrong
The true reason the house isn't finished is they have hundreds of things that need doing and 90% of the time they have a 1 person workforce.
Just because you like things a certain way doesn't mean it is wrong to want it done correctly the first time. Rushing and cutting wrong can lead to things taking longer and increased costs to fix the mistakes.
Good job! Hope Jack (?) likes his new home and figures things out. 😊
Sounds like my hubby and me in Every project. I'm a planner and perfectionist - he works on-the-fly, just Get it done🙄 Needless to say, nothing gets done🙁 He's trying have patience. I draw out my "vision" and I'm learning let go the perfection.❤
Nate, have you been tested for lyme disease.
Will that tarp hold up in stormy weather?
Great roosting frame 😊
I am amazed how big the chickens are 😳
It's a hard day's work, but great outcome 👍

Hey , I'm curious, I always see the "guardian dogs" hanging around with you guys all the time, as opposed to guarding the sheep , so I assume you got the two Pyrenees G.D.s for pets, right?
I keep thinking I'd suffocate if dogs where so close to me all the time when I try to do something.
They mostly watch the chickens but they keep guard on the farm as a whole. They are not pets but we interact with them more than a lot of folks would for their guard dogs.
@@TheKraemerLife Right, they don't appear to be guarding anything actually. They would need to be trained. I never saw any of that, so I was curious.
I’m telling ya, Jack the roo is Creepy Dave!
The roost turned out mighty fine. I hope everyone will settle down and not bully anyone. I guess there are bullies in every species. Thanks for sharing this video. It is a roost people can learn to make as well. Y'all stay cool and have a blessed evening.
Nice roost you two! Now the pecking order will change up, again. Hopefully those free rangers will settle in and all will go as planned. Thanks for sharing the details on the roost, I am sure this will be a popular video.
I love watching you guys because I am also OCD and I love how you guys always talk things through. My husband and I can relate to you guys very well. Thanks for all the great advice.
"Nathan John...", "Katy May...". Y'all.... Too funny 😂
Talk about figurin..sure not my forte..I'm good at other stuff but not that soooo much..blessings to you in every way..ty..xoxo 🥰👍🖐🤟✌🤪
“It’s Nathan level” 😂😂😂 I’ve been married 32 years, and could not have done that! But the roost is beautiful!
I could do it but the very first step would have been WAIT TILL THE WIFE ISN'T HOME
Nathan level came from us setting up the RV, if it wasn't EXACTLY in the middle he would complain and move it to make it level. I was good if it was between the middle black lines.
Have your chickens always roosted in the trees even in the winter? I'm trying to create the same set up with the Amazon run, but I'm wondering if I will need to somehow keep them from freezing in the winter?
Simple living Alaska travelled over 5000 miles to get a tractor with lots of attachments - a TYM
Make Center bar with perches. Lift and attach at top and bottom.
Awesome, great addition.
Hello Nate & Katie
You two work so hard to make things square and level. You do realize this is for chickens who Mother Nature designed to roost in branches that are more or less horizontal and have one end taper narrower than the other (and sway in the breeze). Relax
I just tell my geese to go to bed and they do right into there pen at night just so the raccoon don t s kill them . She is setting on a egg , think he s shooting blanks but letting her set any ways s . Yup farming is fun , LOL
Awesome job Nate n Katy but it would have been much easier just to use little tree limbs that are round for the chicken best of luck
We made one like that last ear and they wouldn't go near it, lol.
Wow looks fantastic 😮👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼good job 💪🏻💪🏻🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much 🤗
You two work well together. Great job on the roost. ❤
Great job on the build!
2 roosters and 1 hen will entice more fighting over her. 2 roosters without a hen will normally live in peace. 2 roosters to 1 hen is a bad ratio.
It was very temporary. They are all good now.
Chickens don't care. You can use crooked branches and they will roost. Remember birds sleep on crookedimbs.
The level is for him, not the birds so he doesn't go batty every time he looks at it.
great job
Look so good ❤
Katie Maye & Nathan John, LOL, you guys are one of the best UA-cam channels! Blessed In Pennsylvania..........
Mighty fine roost! What was the food at the end of the video?
that is our starter feed, it is a mash that we add water to.
Love the roost. Has Mr. __? had a tour of your property yet?
No, he hasn't been able to make it out yet.
Your chicken coops seem so small
Most of the ones you see in this video are all temporary coops for babies or broody hens. Our bigger coops are in a different area.
You lost a lot of real estate with that big Pearce.
That is alright as this is only for our Free-range flock to perch at night.
God Bless you
Great job!
good job
❤
When are you going to work on your house again?
When it cools down.
