    That is a truly unique, interesting, and amazing restoration! I was blown away by what you were able to do. When i saw the tang was fully corroded away I didnt think you were going to be able to salvage nearly as much as you did. Hi again, and I have to say you have done a fantastic job again, I particularly like the copper idea of the handle, makes up for the missing parts really well, especially with the original scales and you have sharpening blades down to a tee now, that is wickedly sharp, really good work yet again. One point is I don't think that is a Japanese knife, on an old knife and anything of a traditional design it would have a through or hidden tang and it would be held onto the handle with wax and possibly a bamboo pin, they would construct the handle and then fill the tang hole with molten wax and then push the tang into the molten wax, that made the tang water tight and also made it so it is very easy to remove the handle with just hot water, what I believe you have is an old Chinese knife, many are and were very similar to Japanese knives blade wise but often the rest of the construction was quite different, but the way to know would be to take it to your local Chinese restaurant and ask them about the writing, either way you have rescued it and made it useful again, congrats on another fine job

      Hello friend, I appreciate that very much!
      Great point right there. That makes a lot of sense. I have purchased this knife from a Japanese seller who advertised it as a Japanese knife. Plus it was sent from Hong Kong. I haven't researched much about the knife itself and conclude to trust the information that I had at the time. Nice suggestion, they would probably look at me like I'm crazy. Imagine I go into a restaurant wearing 100 years old clothes and holding a knife in my hand 😅. Thanks again for taking time to share your knowledge! Cheers

    I think it was quite a brave decision to pay $3 for a knife that was basically rust crumbling away to nothing on the handle. Its a shame you had to cut a new tang though it was a lovely result in the end.
    Agree with a poster below this looks Chinese and might be a copy of a more expensive Japanese knife.

    I think that you got your money’s worth for this knife. There is at least $3.00 worth of tape on the handle. Nice work!

    What does leather do when sharpening a knife?

      @FFD_Restorations  5 місяців тому +1

      It removes the steel burl that is on the edge after the sharpening. If you have a chance try it, you will see huge difference in sharpness 😉

    Как всегда отлично. Только вопрос ? А может стоило приклепать металлическое полотно и уже дальше формировать рукоять. Чем отрезать часть лезвия.

      I'm not sure, but it doesn't look like it. I appreciate your suggestion. Even though I bought it in Japan, some viewers indicated that it could be a Knife that was originally made in China.
