Brocklesby Station, the side you showed, was were the Yarborough platform was, the Pelhams, had their own platform, those were the days when trains ran on time.
Newsham lake was a wonderful place until in the 1960's it was inadvertently drained by a pumping station supplying water to the Humber Bank factories, a great loss, so called progress.
Great video and the one for Withernsea too,
    Regards, PMh

Being a local myself, The ruins a few hundred metres from the arch are the derelict/ dilapidated buildings of anti-aircraft gun battery used for the protection of RAF Kirmington during (WW2) now Humberside airport. There are many throughout North Lincolnshire which a friend and I visited / traced a few years ago which protected the many local Lancaster bomber airfields. Interesting trivia, the actor Donald Pleasance who starred in The Great Escape was based at RAF Kirmington during WW2. The woods which now surround most of these wouldn't have looked like so grown up 80 years ago of course. As a local my childhood was spent around this area on our days out with friends, whether that be in the woods, swimming in the various lakes including Newsham Lake with its bridge. There's also a Mausoleum Grade 1 listed for the Pelham family in the parkland, sadly now closed to the public due to vandalism. In the parkland there is a mature tree that is cut in half where a Lancaster bomber collided with it trying to return to RAF Kirmington after being badly shot up by German fighter aircraft, a plaque on the tree provides details of the crew killed. There's also Brockelsby horse race course. As a teenager many many years ago I was fortunate enough to visit the main house and swim in the outdoor swimming pool one hot sunny day with many others. Again, as a school boy we used to get conkers from the super conker tree near where you first entered by the kennels ( The Brockelsby Hunt, local pubs also of the same name). There are some photo's of soldiers training, camped in a field near Brockelsby railway bridge and walking down the bridge before going off to war WW1. Thanks for the reminder of some great memories.

Brocklesby also lends its name to a Royal Navy ship, Andy. HMS Brocklesby, based at Portsmouth, is a Hunt class mine countermeasures vessel, launched in January 1982. There were 13 ships in the class, made from glass reinforced plastic, named after various Hunts - Atherstone, Berkeley, Bicester, Brecon, Brocklesby, Cattistock, Chiddingfold, Cottesmore, Dulverton, Hurworth, Ledbury, Middleton and Quorn. Nine remain in service, including Brocklesby, and will be replaced by 2031 by unmanned and autonomous systems controlled from a former Offshore Support Vessel, MV Island Crown, which recently arrived in Devonport for conversion, and which will be operated by the Royal Fleet Auxilliary.

Hi Andy! I can understand that Brocklesby would not have been a lot of fun for you to cover but I (of course)enjoyed it. And so I Thank You. I recently found out about another place where I have family ties. It Is yet again another different spelling of my last name. It is called Sewerby Hall in Bridlington Yorkshire. They even have a zoo. Keep up the good work making and sharing your videos!

Ah yes! I shall be covering that when I get to Brid, as we call it. It'll be one of the last ones in the East Riding though, because it's (almost) the furthest away from where I am

the reason most of this shows Private is because it mainly covers the Earl of Yarborough's private land leading to The Hall - accessed either by the water at Tower Corner & the Stables , by the bungalow near the gardener's house and past the church. the large building is the Estate Office . The "farm" is actually The Stables where the horses that are used at The Brocklesby Hunt are kept , the hounds being at the Kennels near the Church. there was also a diary there for milking the cows . i grew up at Little Limber , my parents are buried in Brocklesby churchyard.

Just a few 100 metres down from the arch there is a air aid shelter on the boundary of the woods. Found it by mistake one summer

My grandmother is a Brocklesby. Do any Brocklesbys still live there? Do you have any history on the family? Thanks for sharing

I wish that I was facebook friends with some of the people who have been to Brocklesby Estate and Sewerby Hall. I really enjoy feeling connected to my roots and family ties. My health has continued to decline and so it doesn't seem likely that I can visit there anytime soon.

You might be interested to see this weeks Noticeboard. I have a fan called Lexie who's sent me a ton of photos which are in and around Brocklesby - a lot of them are places I couldn't get to, for example inside the church. I'll be featuring them in this weeks episode
