0:16 that was the most anime/movie "bombardment scene" I've ever witnessed in real life. Aggressive, straight lined, fast approaching yet somehow slow at the same time, and powerful. The best I can compare it to is the blasts of billowing smoke from an old steam freight train barrelling towards you. It's not fast but it's fast enough that you can't get out of the way and there is _nothing_ that can stop the mass behind it.
That's shock tube, not primacord. Shock tube is considerably cheaper per foot than primacord and is less sensitive to static and RFI problems. Primacord still has its uses, but not generally as an initiator on a mining shot.
When we went to the shock tube my copper wire collecting sideline $ dried up, but I was still in business hauling all the quarry’s non-ferrous metal for twenty years $$ 180,000 !
2:04 is so graceful, apart from a couple of little puffs you would hardly know there was any explosives. 1:37 full pond to empty in a couple of seconds
Mountains are in no way "safe" in my home state (WV) thanks to mountaintop removal mining. Places I used to hunt are simply gone...disappeared...changed forever. From an aircraft, the southern part of WV looks like the surface of the moon for the most part.
At 4:14 that shot would be the best way explain what the blast did from mount st Helens back in the 80s just on a hole lot bigger scale....you see the body of water in the shot when they set it off the blast pushes every bit of that water up the other side an way up in the air...that what the mountain did when it went off except it was spirit lake that went way up the other side..there no video of the actual event but this video an this one shot is the best way to explain it 👍👍👍👍👍 great video 👍👍👍
It’s pretty cool, if you look close, right before the blast you can see the charge going through the blasting caps just before the main explosion. That’s wild!
As a student worked at a quarry running a rock drill and placing explosives. It was a real rush setting off the charges. I still have my blasters handbook.
The one at 2:20 was the best, not a lot of fly rock and dust, it folded over as planned. Worked at the old Kaiser Sand & Gravel pit in Clayton CA for twenty years. I have a few videos of their shots. Being in a residential area those shots were no more than forty holes making 40’ high benches.
if you do blast in hilly areas the whole mountains crashes after 2 to 3 years later , we are facing these conditions in himachal Pradesh .. road construction dpt did blasts to create road 7 years ago but now the whole mountains are falling , ecosystem has changed now lots of vegetation destroyed in sake of development .. these big blasts weaken the soil .
That is one way of seeing it, the other is that all minerals needed by the people of the world, comes from the ground - blasted loose to process.. Stop mining, and there won’t be new phones, computers, TVs sound systems, cars, electrical lights, glass, cables, and so on.. We should certainly reduce the spoils of “the west”, but at several points a lot of these blasts are perfection of energy lines, roads and other stuff to rebuild and make our existence more efficient and with better solutions! A blast may shake the ground, but if there were to be a slide, it would be because of salts being washed out of the ground since last ice age! Slides occur just as well without blasting! What do you mean? Stop all progress, and start to grow own food, make our own clothes, kill all our own food? One volcano probably spills more dust and toxic pollution in the atmosphere than all blasts in the world combined, so these works probably won’t rip the world apart!
