Didn't matter the watch or how strong the charger magnet was, from the original LG G Watch to the Zenwatch 3 and beyond, those pins would stop charging if you breathed on them and wore out completely by year two so charging was a guessing game of will my watch be dead today.
Fitbit Versa 3 for almost 3 years now and it still works perfectly with pogo pins. The Pixel Watch 2 actually has the exact same setup, and the Versa charger works on the Pixel Watch
Samsung watch does that, too ( heart rate monitor every minute), and they have been doing that since the first active watch that I have. It's good that someone else is doing it too.

I really like my first Gen pixel watch lol. My battery life lasts over 24 hours currently. I don't really use social media for the most part but it works well for me :)
I have a 1 Gen and it wasn't optimized at the beginning, but with more software updates it's definitely better. Easily lasts one day with always on display. No vibration on notifications tho (I disabled that as it would be too much distraction), maybe that would reduce battery life a bit. Unsure who needs that tho. Love it TBH. It has all I need.
I would have liked that for the freebie preorder bonus PW2, but went with a g shock look alike case for it instead since I don't trust myself not to smash it on things.

The Pixel Watch 2 came with my pro and is my first actual smart watch (not including one of the old Fitbits I used to have) and I've actually been very impressed. I don't have the always on display turned on and I've been impressed with the battery life! Not only that, but like you mentioned, it charges impressively fast. Like 0-100% in 20 minutes the other day. Especially great value for me given that it was free haha

@mkbhd do a video on the complexity of developing such complex products and what it takes to deliver a phone/watch every year. The amount of problems companies have to solve in order to deliver a flawless product. Think we forget how difficult and complex these products are to develop and the number of hours spent sweating the details and problems. Reviewers forget how many people it takes to deliver something like this and critique way too easily. Cheers

The calorie counter is broken, it is saying I burn 4000 calories per day, without any activity. And this problem is known, but the issue thread on the fitbit forum is marked as solved, and the solution is "some users have reported factory resetting it helps. Please do a factory reset, solved.". After this ""solution"" there have been pages of comments, all having the same problem, saying a factory reset does nothing.
I have the original Pixel Watch and it's not bad at all. The battery life isn't amazing, but if I charge it every morning when I'm getting ready then I'm good to go. Everything else is more than fine. I have been waiting for a Pixel since the first Pixel phone and the first try is pretty good for a first gen device 😅

Using the Pixel Watch gen 1 and I can't say that it's bad, I actually do love it. The battery lasts the whole day for me, I don't use it for sleep tracking so I'm just charging it during the night. It's pretty great to me

Honestly I love my PW1. I got both the watch5 and the pw1 and actively chose the pw over the samsung. UI is WAYYYYY better than samsung, battery is just ok, lasts all day for me, and it's way smoother than the samsung. I'm gonna wait until the pw3 to upgrade, reallllly hoping they have a bigger model with the 3.
Came from the galaxy watch 4 and I'm a fan it's still not perfect, wireless charging, and the band not sitting flush when on charge isn't great. Bezel is still a bit large but the screen is bright vivid and very responsive. Battery life is perfectly adaquate... Fitness and swimming is perfect for me and far faster to identify my walk / swim automatically. I'm happy
Pixel watch 2 saved my life. My Galaxy 4 showed BPM at 91 and watch 2 showed 150bpm. Showed up at emergency in VT. after a week of tests I'm a new owner of an ICD.

I like my Pixel Watch 2, but for some reason I still go back to my LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE... Sure, it's lacking the newer fitness stuff (which I don't care about) & the App support is more limited, but otherwise, for basic smartwatch stuff (and cellular connectivity) it's still great & somehow still buttery smooth all these years later. I've got about 70 smartwatches but it's still my daily-driver with all day battery life & AOD enabled, so I really can't complain.
I really wish that they'd add an attachment to the watch that have a battery in it that you attach at night and it chargers your watch while you sleep and adds a few sleep specific sensors. Then you charge that during the day, get better sleep statistics, and your watch is always charged and never needs to be taken off
I love my pixel one watch and it’s the most commonly worn smart watch for me. Yes, the battery life kind of sucks and I have to charge it every day. My galaxy six watch is probably the best all around Balance watch, but I rarely use it because of aesthetics. My favorite and most battery efficient watch is the amazefit GT four Limited edition, it uses its own OS and looks amazing, but app support is not existent. My Apple Watch series 7 has become a second favorite again and I use it for sleep tracking every night, especially since the latest watchOS update the Snoopy watch face is off the hook now.
Updating the heart rate every second is great, but then you realize you can’t actually do that with substantial accuracy - at best, you can update it once per heartbeat (which seems like the way to go anyway). The real test is to see how it performs when The Quantified Scientist tests it compared to the Apple watches - then you’ll know if you really have a winner yet or not. UI/UX is great, but if you’re wanting to track health/fitness, accuracy matters more, and that’s where Apple has traditionally won over most or all of the competition. But if Google is also catching up and keeping pace with Apple Watches, then that is indeed quite an improvement and would make it a very good buy.
Good to see. I still don't get the advantage over fitness bands that are a fraction of the price, have a week plus of battery and and use your phone to do the heavy lifting... because let's face it, it's always on your person anyway.
I gotta say, one thing I heard no one say about the Pixel Watch 2 is the one big con I see: the new charger setup. In theory, its great, but now it's incompatible with the pixel's reverse wireless charging which is kinda a big deal.
That is mindblowingly expensive for wrist weights 🤣🤣. But I guess I can't put a price tag on sending my vital statistics, personal data and location to a mega-corporation at these fidelity levels. /s
Its still a single heart rate sensor ;) (btw, photoplethysmography sensor calculating average heart rate) Also, note that they probably made it SpO2-ready by having he red and infrared LEDs there, but are still working on the algorithm :) - comming from someone who worked on the very first optical heart rate sensor introduced into the world in the Mio Alpha
My only question is, is it really easy to read with that circular screen? A square screen like the _Apple Watch_ is always more accessible, but the _Pixel_ watch was *quite balanced* and perhaps in this new generation that point has improved even more.
I wouldn’t be so sure about 5 heart rate detectors, pretty sure the middle, top and bottom squares have them and 2 others are just diodes to provide light for more accurate reading
I never understood ppls issue with watch charging. I charge it when I shower... Never run out of battery unless im not showering in 24 hrs which is rare. Haven't had issue with apple watch series 6 nor the pixel watch 2.
I'm still not a fan of the battery life of this one and also the apple watch. I've been wearing my Garmin Forerunner 965 now for 5 1/2 days and I'm still at 41% with a single charge, while I've used it quite a bit. With optimized energy management 10 days to 2 weeks should be possible. I think it's really nice not to have to worry about charging your watch every day.
Tbf the first gen Apple Watch was also bad. Super slow and that first SDK was so bad that Apple launched a completely new one a year or so later and never talked about the old one ever again
Enjoying my free watch 2 with the 8 pro. BUT how on earth did fitbit provide a weightlifting workout where you CAN'T split between rest and sets. Using only your heart rate to measure your workout intensity is pretty misleading.
Since i use Google pixel 7 pro, Got mine the LTE version, happy so far, the built quality is great, my only complain is the size, they don't have 47mm like my samsung Watch 3, can't wait for the future updates, overall great watch.
There's no disputing Marques' expertise in the tech field. He's proven himself to be in a class of his own time and again. However, I emphatically disagree with the opening statement of Gen 1 being a requirement amd a necessary test bed. This is a fundamental flaw in the logic used by all tech companies, hardware and software. The companies should not be making money off of consumer guinea pigs that are paying them. They should only use sand box environments and then release their products when they're fully ready. In addition, there's no such thing as a Gen 1" smart watch of fitness device that is being introduced 10 years after the first devices launched, regardless whether its a different company releasing it.

Got the Pixel Watch 2 with my Pixel 8 Pro and it's crazy good compared to my partner's Galaxy Watch 4. Google really improved.
Galaxy watch 4 was released in 2021. It would be surprising if a flagship 2023 watch was not better than the galaxy watch 4.

Really like the minimal design and Fitbit integration, have a Pixel 6 Pro and Fitbit Inspire but may upgrade just for the added UI/features

My Apple Watch series 7 has become a second favorite again and I use it for sleep tracking every night, especially since the latest watchOS update the Snoopy watch face is off the hook now.
Updating the heart rate every second is great, but then you realize you can’t actually do that with substantial accuracy - at best, you can update it once per heartbeat (which seems like the way to go anyway). The real test is to see how it performs when The Quantified Scientist tests it compared to the Apple watches - then you’ll know if you really have a winner yet or not. UI/UX is great, but if you’re wanting to track health/fitness, accuracy matters more, and that’s where Apple has traditionally won over most or all of the competition. But if Google is also catching up and keeping pace with Apple Watches, then that is indeed quite an improvement and would make it a very good buy.
Good to see. I still don't get the advantage over fitness bands that are a fraction of the price, have a week plus of battery and and use your phone to do the heavy lifting... because let's face it, it's always on your person anyway.
I gotta say, one thing I heard no one say about the Pixel Watch 2 is the one big con I see: the new charger setup. In theory, its great, but now it's incompatible with the pixel's reverse wireless charging which is kinda a big deal.
That is mindblowingly expensive for wrist weights 🤣🤣. But I guess I can't put a price tag on sending my vital statistics, personal data and location to a mega-corporation at these fidelity levels. /s
I personally just use a fitness band. Smaller screen so you dont look dorky and the battery can last 5-7 days..

Yeah Google bought Fitbit and gutted them in favor of the Pixel watch. So disappointing to see how they did Fitbit after loving my Fitbit for years.
So nobody is gonna talk about how the heart rate sensor looks like the Fitbit logo
Its still a single heart rate sensor ;) (btw, photoplethysmography sensor calculating average heart rate) Also, note that they probably made it SpO2-ready by having he red and infrared LEDs there, but are still working on the algorithm :)

My only question is, is it really easy to read with that circular screen?
A square screen like the _Apple Watch_ is always more accessible, but the _Pixel_ watch was *quite balanced* and perhaps in this new generation that point has improved even more.

I wouldn’t be so sure about 5 heart rate detectors, pretty sure the middle, top and bottom squares have them and 2 others are just diodes to provide light for more accurate reading
meh... these things really need to have better battery than "24hrs".
I never understood ppls issue with watch charging. I charge it when I shower... Never run out of battery unless im not showering in 24 hrs which is rare.
Haven't had issue with apple watch series 6 nor the pixel watch 2.
When will the full review be out? Also, it would be good if you could recommend some good budget smartwatches
I'm still not a fan of the battery life of this one and also the apple watch. I've been wearing my Garmin Forerunner 965 now for 5 1/2 days and I'm still at 41% with a single charge, while I've used it quite a bit. With optimized energy management 10 days to 2 weeks should be possible. I think it's really nice not to have to worry about charging your watch every day.
I bought the 1st pixel watch in July.. I have zero complaints.. but I also don't care about sleep monitoring

Tbf the first gen Apple Watch was also bad. Super slow and that first SDK was so bad that Apple launched a completely new one a year or so later and never talked about the old one ever again
Enjoying my free watch 2 with the 8 pro. BUT how on earth did fitbit provide a weightlifting workout where you CAN'T split between rest and sets. Using only your heart rate to measure your workout intensity is pretty misleading.
Since i use Google pixel 7 pro, Got mine the LTE version, happy so far, the built quality is great, my only complain is the size, they don't have 47mm like my samsung Watch 3, can't wait for the future updates, overall great watch.
There's no disputing Marques' expertise in the tech field. He's proven himself to be in a class of his own time and again. However, I emphatically disagree with the opening statement of Gen 1 being a requirement amd a necessary test bed. This is a fundamental flaw in the logic used by all tech companies, hardware and software. The companies should not be making money off of consumer guinea pigs that are paying them. They should only use sand box environments and then release their products when they're fully ready. In addition, there's no such thing as a Gen 1" smart watch of fitness device that is being introduced 10 years after the first devices launched, regardless whether its a different company releasing it.

As a daily user of the original, I have absolutely loved and enjoyed it. I'm going to wait until the 3 comes out to upgrade.

you definitely don't need to get Fitbit premium unless you're a professional athlete and really need every little feature because you still get so much without it

the heart rate detection is the best I've ever used, including my last 3 fitbits.
ASUS GEN 1 & MOTO 360 GEN 1 watch beats more than 80% of the smartwatch on market even in 2023 despite being released back in 2014 , i do own Samsung Watch4 Classic now but i always admire what Asus & Motorola offered almost a decade back ❤❤❤
Just upgraded from Galaxy Watch 4 to Pixel Watch 2, so far I’m loving it, the battery is good, the experience is better than Galaxy Watch 4 in my opinion, but I wish google have the touch bezels like galaxy has, other that that, Apple Watch really have a possible competitor now.
