My BEST shot of the year? Maybe...

- Autumn is sadly now over with the best of the colours long gone and the landscape now starting to take on a more bleak wintery feel. It's been a very productive Autumn for me photographically and in this video I end it with possibly some of my favourite images of the year so far. Hiking up into the hills of the Isle of Man I focus on shooting a collection of hidden old ruined buildings that hold a lot of photographic potential. Join me for a short by sweet morning of landscape photogaphy! Thanks for watching and I'll see you again soon :-)

Wowww shot 👍👌
Nailed!!
Great shot James..such a beautiful area...compositions all over the place ..happy you had a great day shooting.. be safe.
Great video James. Loved all the images. Thank you for being so inspiring.
James,
While I will never achieve the level of your art; I love watching and learning from you. I can only improve. And, I can say that you put a lot of 'pros' in their place when they continue to extol the singular virtues of the 2.8 lens--when you have shown the 14-30 f/4 to perform beyond any comparison. Of course it is the photographer! Thank you.
Thank you Jon - that is very kind of you to say 🙂
Fantastic work as always James, you set yourself very high standards and your images never disappoint. The second image, I enjoyed the talk through of how you achieved the brilliant result, superb image blending to create a truly excellent photograph. Thanks as always for sharing what you do, cheers buddy.
Thanks very much. I think setting high standards is important as it helps maintain a consistent quality (hopefully) and helps improvements. The big downside is that it can stiffle motivation and creativity potentially too. So its a delicate balancing act I find. I appreciate the kind words 🙂
Excellent images...really like how you explain each of your shoots. Thanks for sharing...look forward to your next video.
Thanks Cesar 🙂
Beautiful, stunning pictures.
Thanks Robert 👍
Love your content, it has reignited my love of the Island and pushed me to get out in these difficult times
Thanks Mark - comments like this are one of the main reasons I produce these videos!!! Happy shooting 🙂
Awesome mate.
Thanks Craig 🙏
Great video. Liked the way you explained your setup and why, and then what you actually shot.
Thank you Kevin 😀
Enjoyable video James with beautiful images. Old ruins make great subjects. Thanks for sharing take care.
Thanks for watching John 👍
That.... is a very beautiful shot James. I like your choice of shooting these old houses with the typical stones in you photo’s. Cheers.
Thank you. There’s loads more old ruins on my list to shoot. So hopefully I’ll have a lot more to show in the future 🙂
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Thank you 🙏
Amazing images, you had a very successful morning. Well planned, perfectly executed and your editing is superb. Great Vlog, thanks James.
Thanks Mick. Appreciate the feedback 👍
Wow for the second image, would like to have seen how you processed that image. Thanks for sharing 😊👍
Cheers Kevin. Yeah that wasn’t the easiest to edit. The exposure blend itself wasn’t too hard but controlling flaring was a little challenging 👍
Solid post, sterling sunburst image, spot-on music choice, and instructive commentary, James. 👍. By this time I thought you would have already photographed all the ruins on the island. Are the sites named in a historical log somewhere - might be useful in naming final images, no? A plus that you did not include the “gate walk-though” in B-roll. Cheers!
Thanks Paul. There are dozens and dozens of these tholtan ruins here. I still have quite a few that I’ve never visited let alone photographed. I absolutely love shooting them. They just ooze atmosphere. Sadly I’m not too good with my knowledge on the site names, I know some but the ones in this particular video I’ve got no idea sadly. Hopefully I’ll visit some more soon 😀
Wow amazing images James, well worth the early trek, thanks for sharing the details, cheers
Cheers Trevor 🙏 most definitely worth the early start
Something was running for dear life on the other side of the valley at 7:29. Nice images!
Thanks! I think that’s a car 😂
Two great photos. Fantastic work on the second one. You got it spot on.
Cheers John 👍
Love the first image of the mist in the valley against the weathered stonework, but both images are stunning! Nice one, James.
Thank you John 👍
You’ve got those sunstar shots nailed James 👌🏻
Thanks Richard! They turn out nicely on the 14-30. I believe the 20mm 1.8 is even better so that’s on my future wishlist
Beautiful shot!
Thanks 😊

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
So, no focus breathing in that lens?
Very little. The 14-30 is simply amazing. For its size and weight I believe it’s the best wide angle full frame landscape lens available on any system.
hello friend ... good video ... I see that you have a small accessory under the head that helps to prevent the gear system from crashing on the tripod (BENRO GD3WH)... could you tell me where to buy it ... it does not allow to move it in some occasions .... thank you very much in advance
Hi Yvanel, I bought my BENRO GD3WH from WEX online for £159 they always give a great and fast service with a 30 day no quibble return policy, cant fault them.
@@ScoTreVan yes friend ... I have the head ... but I see that you have an accessory between the head and the tripod, which allows the head mechanism not to collide with the tripod ... a light blue accessory that I always see under the BENRO head GDEWH ... where did you buy that accessory?
@@yvanelaravena7112 Ahh I think that is part of the Benro Mach3 Tripod S3 Carb 4 Sect Long, if you click on James Gear link it's sold on amazon, but not sure if you can buy the Blue lock part separately? I too was looking at that part as it looks useful
Hi, the GD3WH is mounted directly to my benro tripod. So there is no additional accessories. Hope that helps 👍
