Chad, Happy new year and thank you for your videos. I learned a lot from watching them as I am in a very bad bind. I have a chimney in my house in Morristown NJ, and after 6 crews have come buy and after approx $26k in expenses the chimney leaked this Christmas, and is now ruining my sun room dry wall which has now become warped. All things have been done to this chimney by 6 different crews like, rebuilding the bricks of the chimney, caulking it , spaying it, fixing the crown, etc (10 year span). The result remains the same. After a year the chimney always leaks , destroying my dry walls , making me repeat the process. I know you are in NH and I am in NJ. Is there any way for you to guide me as a consultant, or if you know someone with your skills that lives near Morristown NJ, can you suggest him to work on this?. I do not intend to fix the chimney now, as it is winter, and I can not afford a worse seal, and also the work not being done right (I have a lot of examples for this as I mentioned) , so I will tarp it and wait for the summer. Can you suggest something for me? I could find and send you some photos/videos to show you the issue, and I will pay for any advice you give me. I only wish you were near so you could visit me. Can you help me in any way? If you can and you want to do this please email me in the hotmail account in this email, and tell me if there is anything you can do. I am desperate as you see from the way I write. After all the money I gave, I can not get a simple chimney sealed off right through the years. In closing, I have to say that I appreciate the integrity you show in the videos about doing the job right, and the impeccable engineering thinking process you use. Regards and best wishes for your family and your company in the new year. Mike

Sounds like a really bad experience. I'm sorry you're still having to deal with this after so much effort and money.
Send me the pictures and video you have, and I'll see what i can come up with. Cvmasonry04@gmail.com

What's the temperature inside the plastic? Do you keep the heat on overnight? Worry about freezing before the mortar sets?

It's probably around 40⁰ at the very bottom and 80⁰ at the top. I wish we could keep the heat on overnight, but it's too much of a liability. We covered everything with insulated frost blankets before we left. It did get a decent initial set, but it's still not ideal.

Do you change your mortar mix for the cold?

@lennycohen6539 Yes, we are trying Spec Mix type N premix on this job.

@chadvaillancourt Heard that phrase from a block layer on a basement I was laboring for. It was my sister's house. He was more of a butcher on the chimney flues. "Found out years later" twisted chase etc. That hog phrase would make a nice tutorial vid sometime .

Perhaps I could do a demonstration. It would probably make for a funny video.
