    This is perfect because in construction you don’t end up wearing these blades evenly so the pieces that are used up unevenly can be made into these. Essentially you end up using the whole blade with this mod. Genius

      I don't think I would have been do careful had I not had that injury...I played a whole baseball game with a broken pinky, dislocated and relocated my own knee...and nothing could come close pain wise...to an eye injury

    Many times I see videos where the presenter goes a bit overboard on being or appearing safe, but I totally get this. Thank you for taking a dedicated moment to implore folks to protect their vision.

      im a bit more casual on some things..but not with eyes..if you have never experienced that pain...I can't...I've broken and set my own nose 3 times, relocated my own knee...nothing even comes close to a corneal abrasion.

    Although large saw blades are cumbersome to carry everyday if not in a bag or a car, now I see your point. To explore new possibility and test the limits, to boldly go where no man has gone before. Zzz777 is on similar line with you. His pommel hammer that clicks into the lanyard ring slot of Wave is awesome.

    I got Diablo jigsaw blades to fit after removing up to 1/4 in off the length. I know theyre not as long as those sawzall blades but it took 5 minutes to shorten them to fit inside the Leatherman perfect.

    Glad you still have your eye. Sorry about the cost. In the UK that would have been free (although you do pay a % of your pay that covers all Govt benifits) on the NHS.

    Awesome kid. And YES…definitely an advocate for eye protection with face shield. Had metal shavings from drilling red iron that fell behind safety glasses. Went to urgent and they got them out…I thought. A couple of days later a shaving that hiding behind eye decide to dislodged as I was driving. Almost instantly blinded me. Had to pull and get it with a napkin I had in the car. Went to doc afterwards and had a significant cornea abrasion.

    Here's an idea: if you don't mind your lanyard ring getting a bit messy; clamping the ring to the blade and then doing the layout with spraypaint might give you a more accurate initial pattern

    I just had a go at this with a regular hacksaw blade. It was only just wide enough but I managed to get a snug fit. The blade was already damaged so I cut it to the same length as my Wave. I reckon I’ll need to use the blade carefully as I think it will bend or even break if I put any lateral force on it but hey, it’s an emergency tool, so it won’t get a lot of use. I’m now looking forward to picking up some sawzall blades to experiment with…a green wood blade first, I think.👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    One suggestion is to use a grinder with a blade equal to the first inside width dimension of the first cut. One cut to a fixed inside dimension and then shape the outside perimeter of the outline.

  • @rjflippo

    Do you think attaching a saw blade like this would be a good substitute for a dedicated pruning saw for cutting down a tree in survival/bushcraft scenario. Just curious of the strength of the locking feature. Thanks.

  • @ChrisLueking
    @ChrisLueking 3 роки тому

    So first of all, this is incredibly cool. I’ve seen several people making stuff to jam in the pocket clip slot. Thank you for taking the time to cover the tools and show the whole process - even in the rain!
    However, for EDC, I wonder if a simple 3D printed handle made to accept these Sawsall blades would be better. I just don’t know how much I want to use my favorite Wave as a glorified handle…

    • @maxlvledc
      @maxlvledc  3 роки тому

      Hmm, I don't think that would be nearly as secure, but also that would likely also void warranty, saving those mods till later 😉

    Have you considered swivelling your vise jaws over top of your bench? Then you can rest the arm that is holding the Dremel tool on the bench to steady the cut. If you are going to do several blades you may also consider laying the lanyard on the blade and then giving it a quick shot of spray paint to give you the shadow outline you need. Which blades do you prefer?

    Instead of using a sharpie could you use a carbide point marking pen. Then you are scratching off the line instead of ink. The other option that I have seen done is getting the template in the right spot and shooting just a small spritz of spray paint to get the lay out just right.

    The idea is good but the design is wrong. To cut metal you will have to put some downwards pressure and with the way you have it, then the leverage is on the weakest side. (where it locks in) Flip the design so the pressure is on the other edge. Pause the video at frame 7:28 and you can easily see the potential weak point for the finished blade.

    so your video with cuts takes longer than just buying the Lennox Sawzall blade handle ( $28 ) . my time is worth something ( boiler tech so if it takes more than 1/2 hr and is under $40 i just buy it ) and for edc a Sawzall isn't that big of a need.
    now as far as the eye pro goes ( and ear pro because those little Dremel's are loud ) i am a safety 3rd kind of guy. look it up from Mike Rowe and Travis S Taylor from rocket city rednecks , both talk about you being the one to plan your safety. the most dangerous thing on the jobsite is the fool that went before you because you don't know what he did. so have a plan for when the job goes sideways.
