Any jam with DJ Cheese was going to have strong beats with cuts and mixes that were right on time when you heard it but you never thought of it before you heard it. DJ Hall of Fame no doubt.
Much respect !! A dj legend & duke bootee’s beauty & the beat had some great hip hop releases including some dance acts like talula moon & wooley reasonable to add to your def list 🤝
I saw him 1985 in San Diego, his amazing technique and beatkeeping is a thrill to watch, he even kept the beat in an arena setting which is rather hard to do (been there, tried that ;-). Thx for posting this true piece of old skool nostalgia!
DJ Cheese was one of the toughest dj's that was hard to come by he was in an league of his own. You had Grandwizzard Theodore, Grandmaster Flash, Jam Master Jay and all of them copied each other but DJ Cheese had his own set of cuts, stabs, fades, and drops that made him different.
Back in the late 80's, I was reading a magazine (either Word Up or one of the other Black magazines during that time) that mentioned DJ Cheese teamed up with a guy named Romeo. They were supposed to release an album that I never saw. Does anybody have anymore information on this?
I have it on audio tape as well. Cheese was well ahead of his time back then, because the D.J's at the time were just mixing and not doing alot of scratching but Cheese change that, by doing tricks and scracthing. I heard part of his winning routine was to have his his hands, hancuffed whilst scratching. Would love to see it on video
I talk to DJ Cheese's brother every other day at work..Cheese may hit the scene again next year (parties/showcases) (by the way that's his real name 'Robert Cheese' in case some didn't know)
it was also the first time the record jumped but the dj was allowed to start again, things were a lot stricter back then but as history proved it was worth it, by the way 'scratch fans' the other cheese thing on here (iz back) i wondered if anyone could tell me if it came before or after jazzy jeff and fresh princes 'rhythm trax house party style' as they both have the same backing track, format and year, just curious..
true indeed mrjack , but theres always a random someone with a camera, a student on a project or a forward thinking mate , jeez if i was in the world final of something i would've made sure it was filmed even if i had to build a camera out of empty yoghurt pots and a pair of me mums old tights (i only made runner-up in the uk final '92, funnily enough that was the only other year they didn't film it, luckily we managed to blag a camera for the night )
Does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 43 seconds. Not the song that says "it goes a little something like this" It says Za-wa Thanks skillz
Kurt's blow - tough Opening line: "I don't want a lot, I just want enough, so why does it go to be so damn tough! Tuff crew - my part of time does a good job cutting that sample as well.
@tazghettojungalist Yeah, I recently uploaded it, but it never came out on Tommy Boy, though. I loved this tune as a kid and it was one of my earliest Records I bought, I was also big time into DJ Cheese from the DMC's from UK Fresh, lol, and from epic Big beat tunes like this one and of course King Cut. It's *unbelievable* that DJ Cheese got no credit originally on what is such an epic tune that reprises "Jam Master Jay" (RIP) like that. Search for; Tackhead - Is There a Way Out
Yeah, i'm sure Cheese would like to hear the old battle of himself, since they didn't film it in 86. Also I know Cheese and the fans would flip if they could at least hear the one World Champ routine never seen or heard...
@@deejaymek You can tell just by listening that this isn't a one-take, live turntable mix. There's blatantly some form of overdubs, multi-track recording or whatever going on (even if they are part of the original recording). To this day I've never heard someone able to fluidly cut one record and scratch another at the same time to two different rhythmical schemes (and this can be heard on several occasions during this mix). Cool artifact from more innocent times though.
@@airfixx_8952 No mate, this is a one take. The first record by Tackhead features a load of scratching by Cheese already.... so he's playing that record & scratching over it.... so you hear the original record plus the extras if that makes sense? Go check out the song "Is there a way out' by Tackhead and it will make sense. ua-cam.com/video/NvkXlTGrBy4/v-deo.html
It was and still is one of my favorite songs since I was in high school, along with KING KUT!!!!!!!❤❤❤
BTW, thanks for putting this up too, DJ Cheese does not get enough credit nowadays, mid-80s he was huge to those that knew.
Defo.

Saw him at Fresh 86 and at Conspiracy in Manchester, I was in awe of his skills back then, a true master.
